Hockey Helmet Program is now done for the 2011-12 season.

Chevrolet launched a “Hockey Helmet Program” on August 19th, which will provide every 5 year old player (Born in 2006) that registers with a Hockey Canada Member Branch/Association a FREE Bauer hockey helmet. We are hoping to get the word out to all 5 year old members in the 2011-12 season. Here is a link to the Hockey Helmet Program registration web site.

Atom B Typhoons - 2011 West Northumberland Champions

 

The Cornwall Girls Hockey Association Atom B Typhoons won the West Northumberland 3rd Annual Pink Ribbon of Hope Cup Challenge. The Typhoons were undefeated in round robin play, In semi-final action the typhoons defeated The Sudbury Lady Wolves 3-1.This set up a final against the host team West Northumberland Wild. The Typhoons defeated the Wild 5-3.

SPEAK OUT!/RESPECT IN SPORT 
The Ontario Women's Hockey Association has partnered with Respect in Sport. Respect in Sport is Canada's only on-line bullying, abuse, harassment and neglect prevention program for coaches and community leaders. Founded in 2004 by partners Wayne McNeil and former NHL hockey player Sheldon Kennedy, Respect in Sport has been developed in consultation with the Canadian Red Cross to protect youth, inform leaders, and mitigate an organization's liability.

OWHA Bulletin September 2010 
Welcome to the 2010-2011 hockey season. This is a season of celebration as Angela James and Cammi Granato are the first women to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, with Angela James coming through the OWHA as a player, coach and referee. Her accomplishments include multiple league, provincial, national, international and world championships as well as receiving many MVP and individual awards. Please watch the OWHA web site for exciting opportunities around the induction in early November.

IMPORTANT HOCKEY CANADA RULE CHANGE 2011 – 2012
EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY IN ALL OWHA HOCKEY
 
ZERO tolerance measures for all head contact or checks in minor, female, junior and senior hockey:
  • in minor and female hockey, a minor penalty shall be assessed for all accidental hits to the head, while a double minor penalty, or a major and game misconduct at the discretion of the referee based on the degree of violence of impact, shall be assessed for any intentional contact to the head;
  • in junior (Junior A, B, C, D) and senior hockey, a minor and a misconduct or a major and a game misconduct shall be assessed for all checks to the head, at the discretion of the referee
  • a major penalty and a game misconduct, or match penalty, shall be assessed to any player who injures an opponent under this rule
