| CCEI Midget A Typhoons - Durham West Champions
The Carl Carter Enterprise Inc Midget A Typhoons captured Gold at a recent Hockey Tournament in Pickering Ontario. The Typhoons battled some of the top A teams in Ontario without a loss over the weekend. The young ladies started the Tournament with a 2-0 Victory over League rivals Ottawa Valley. Saturday Afternoon they matched up against the host team from Durham West and with 13 seconds remaining, the Typhoons scored what they thought was the tying goal, but it was disallowed. With the face off to the left of the Goalie, the Girls executed a planned play and scored to tie the game 4-4 with 6 seconds left. With only a tie needed to advance to the semis the girls came up with a 2-1 victory over the Brampton Canadettes, which enabled them to finish first in their pool and a chance at the Ottawa League powerhouse Nepean Wildcats. With the game going back and forth, the Typhoons eventually came out of the game with a 2-1 overtime shootout win to place them in the Finals against a strong Peterborough team. This being the third game of the day for the girls from Cornwall and surrounding area, the better-conditioned team would have the advantage. As expected the hard fore-check, steady Defense and solid Goaltending throughout the whole Tournament proved to be the Key. The Typhoons again went into overtime and a shootout and scored the 2-1 Victory. The success of this Tournament should help the young 15-18 year olds in the upcoming weeks in their preparation for Playoffs and Provincial Playdowns.
