LEAGUE FAQ'S
We receive many questions regarding league structure, policies, and practices.  Following are a few of those more frequently asked questions

Q Can I sign up in Cornwall if I dont like the program in another town?A No. League charter boundaries are fixed by the regional offices of Little League Baseball, Inc.  Absent a District/Region level waiver you can only participate in the chartered league in which you reside.
Q What are the CLL Charter boundaries?A The CLL charter boundaries were established in the 1950s and are the boundaries of the Cornwall Central  School District.
Q What does Little League Age mean?A   A childs actual age may not be the same as his/her Little League Age.  Little League Baseball, Inc.publishes age charts annually that determine what age a child must be to participate in the various baseball and softball divisions.  A players Little League Age is determined by birth date and is the age that will be used to determine each players eligibility.
Q But my child is more advanced and/or, larger than his/her classmates, can (s)he move up?   A No.  The division a child plays in is determined based upon his/her Little League Age.  Division age brackets are established by Little League Baseball, Inc. and the CLL board of directors.  No exceptions can be made to move a player to a division that requires an older Little League Age.
Q My 3 year old has really shown an interest in playing T-Ball, why cant he play?A CLL offers participation for players who have attained Little League Age 5 or older.  CLLs charter and insurance does not include teams for players under Little League Age 5.  No exceptions can be made for younger players.
Q I missed sign ups, can I sill register my child?A CLLs last scheduled registration event is in mid-January.  After that time CLL does not guarantee that we can place your child on a team.  Following the final registration event, division directors will evaluate team roster sizes and a determination will be made to allow additional registrants or to initiate a waiting list.  You may submit a late registration form to place your child on our waiting list.  You can obtain late registration forms on our website.  Instructions for submission of late registration forms are listed on the forms.
Q If my child is on a waiting list when will I find out if (s)he is on a team?A CLLs waiting list is maintained on a first come first served basis.  You will be contacted as soon as possible if a roster position becomes available for your child.  Children may remain on the waiting list and eligible for placement on a team beyond the start of the season.
Q Who picks the teams?A Managers and coaches of the various divisions select players through a formal draft process under the oversight of the division director and/or player representative.
Q What if my child doesnt make a team?A All children who are registered during the regular sign ups for CLL will be placed on a team.  Late registrations are subject to roster space availability as outlined above.
Q Can my child be on the same team as his/her friend or with a particular coach?A In younger divisions (T-ball and Instructional) we try to honor such requests to facilitate car pooling and social development.  However, all final decisions are at the discretion of the directors and managers and cannot be guaranteed.  In older divisions, honoring specific requests is usually not possible.
Q Can I coach my childs team?A Division Directors, with the approval of the Board of Directors and President, select managers and coaches in each division from the pool of volunteer applicants.  If you would like to be included in that pool, please complete a volunteer application for consideration.
Q What equipment is supplied and what equipment will my child need to own?A Typically your child will require only a glove, athletic shoes, and personal safety equipment for participation.  CLL supplies teams with bats, batting helmets, catcher equipment, balls, and uniforms for each child including a shirt, socks, pants, and cap.
Q Which field will my child be playing on? A You will be provided with a season schedule which will detail game times and field locations.  Depending on your childs division, games may be played on CLL complex, Laurel Crest Park, or any of the Cornwall School District fields.
Q What is Shed Duty? A Our concession stand, commonly known as the Shed, is staffed by VOLUNTEERS.  Parents of our players are obligated to take a turn working in the Shed once, possibly twice, each season.  A Shed duty schedule is distributed at the beginning of the season along with the game schedule.  If a parent does not appear for their assigned Shed duty, your child will not be permitted to play in his/her game on that date.  If you are unavailable to work the Shed on your assigned date(s), you must make arrangements to switch duty with another parent.
Q I see the Shed staff working every nighteven late.  How much are they paid?   A CLL is an all VOLUNTEER organization, there are no paid staff.  Our Shed operation is overseen by several dedicated VOLUNTEERS and is supplemented by parents fulfilling their shed duty
Q I noticed some weeds along the fence, how often does the Town mow the fields?   A CLL VOLUNTEERS maintain all fields on the CLL complex. Prior to opening day, organized work party dates will be announced via the Opening Day letter that will be sent to each player.  During the season additional work party dates may be announced.  In addition, a work party meets each Saturday morning for several hours in advance of the first game.  Please feel free to join us or organize your own work party.
Q How are registration revenues spent?  A Registration revenue covers CLLs operating expenses.  Major expense categories include Charter fees and insurance, uniforms, equipment, field and equipment maintenance, mailing and advertising, Cornwall School District facility use fees, and post season tournament team fees and expenses.
Q How much are the umpires paid? A Consistent with LL Baseball guidance, CLL utilizes all VOLUNTEER umpires.  If you would like to VOLUNTEER as an umpire, contact Umpire-in-Chief Lynn Beesecker at (845) 534-5056 or Lbeesecker@aol.com or complete a volunteer form on our website.
Q What are the signs hanging in the outfield? A CLL raises additional revenue through sponsorship opportunities.  Corporate sponsors purchase signs through the CLL to advertise their businesses which are displayed on the outfield fences.  Team sponsorships are also available which display a business name on a teams uniform shirt.  Sponsorship forms are available at registration events or anytime on our website.
