The Cork Admirals won their opening game of the IAFL season thanks to a 4th quarter comeback that saw them score 2 touchdowns in just over 2 minutes. Tight-end Willy O'Brien got the go ahead touchdown with about a minute to play.

The Knights defense got the first score of the game when they sacked the Admirals quarterback in the endzone to score a 2 point safety. However, the Admirals got the first offensive score of the game in the second quarter when quarterback David Lomasney threw a 60 yard touchdown pass to Keith O'Callaghan. The Admirals continued the offensive pressure on their next drive and Lomasney threw another long range touchdown pass, this time a 68 yarder to Peter Lucey to give them a 12-2 lead. The Knights then began to move the ball on offense and scored on a 50 yard run by tailback David Wright. The conversion brought the Knights back to within 3 points of the Admirals. The Admirals then extended their lead just before halftime with Lomasney's third long touchdown pass of the day, this time to Alain Pezoran, to give Cork an 18-9 lead at halftime.

The third quarter belonged to the Knights offense. They scored two touchdowns to give themselves a one score lead over the Admirals. New starting quarterback Adam Devenney was instrumental in both scores. The first was a 15 yard pass to veteran receiver Paul McKillop and the second was a 2 yard quarterback sneak by Devenney himself. The Knights maintained their 5 point lead until the 2-minute warning. Then John O'Sullivan intercepted a Knights pass and returned it to the Knights red-zone. Willy O'Brien scored the Admirals 4th touchdown reception of the day to give them a 24-23 point lead. The Knights, with only one minute left, had to go to the air, but a 35 yard interception return by Barry Rafferty sealed their 30-23 victory.

Scorers:
1st Quarter: No scoring.
2nd Quarter: Dragons ?Diarmuid Noyes 7yd run (0-6). Admirals ?Keith O’Callaghan 65yd run (6-6)
3rd Quarter: No scoring.
4th Quarter: No scoring.

The Dublin Dragons and Cork Admirals tied 6-6 in a very tight defensive game at Lucan Community College. Despite excellent conditions both offenses used a run heavy gameplan and both offenses moved the ball effectively in the first half, the Admirals running behind Rob Hennessy and Trevor O'Connell. Both teams scored rushing touchdowns in the second quarter. Dragons running back Diarmuid Noyes scored from 7 yard out to give the Dragons a 6-0 lead. However the Admirals responded immediately with a 65 yard breakaway run by runningback Keith O’Callaghan to level the score.
Both defenses dominated from that point on with Barry Rafferty and Pat Du Boucher playing well for the Admirals and Lez Connolly and Nick Newby helping the Dragons defense. The Admirals defense forced two turnovers in the second half giving the offense good field position, however the pportunities were not converted. The first ending in a blocked field goal and the second on downs after a penalty out the Admirals offense in long situations. This result is the Dublin Dragons second consecutive 6-6 tie. The game was played in aid of the victims of Chernobyl.

Vikings defeat Admirals in Limerick
Venue: UL Sports Ground, Limerick.

Scorers:
1st Quarter: Vikings: 26 yard run by Chris Bassitt + Bassitt 2xpt (0-8 ).
2nd Quarter: Vikings: 31 yard pass from Jeremiah Sexton to Michael Toomey (0-14).
3rd Quarter: No Scoring.
4th Quarter: 10 yard pass from Jeremiah Sexton to Michael Toomey (0-20).

The Vikings guaranteed themselves a place in the semi-finals thanks to a 20-0 win over Munster rivals the Cork Admirals in Limerick. The Admirals offense took the opening posession and proceeded to move the ball to the Viking red-zone behind strong running from Marcus Gates and Alain Pezoran. A fourth down stop however prevented the Admirals from scoring. The Vikings scored their first touchdown of the game on their next possesion thanks to a 26 yard run by running back Chris Bassitt who also got the conversion. The remainder of the first half was an even affair, both defenses played well during this period. Shortly before the 2 minute warning Vikings QB Sexton connected with Michael Toomey for a 31 yard score. The Admirals managed to drive to Vikings territory before a David Lomasney pass was dropped in the endzone by Keith O'Callaghan. Time ran out in the half before the Admirals could put any points on the board.
For most of the second half the Admirals moved the ball well on offense, with Marcus Gates and Alain Pezoran running well and Keith O'Callaghan, Shane Galway and Willy O'Brien catching passes from David Lomasney. The Vikings defense, led by Liam Ryan and Glen Carr, managed to stop any Admirals drives once they reached the Vikings red-zone. The Vikings final score came midway through the fourth quarter Toomey catching a 10 yard scoring pass from Sexton.

Running back Alain Pezorant scored 4 touchdowns and got over 100 yards rushing in a comprehensive victory for the Cork Admirals at home to the North Dublin Marshals. The Admirals rushing attack dominated the first quarter. The Admirals managed to convert their opening three possessions into touchdowns with the offensive line executing sharply, with Rob Hennessy, Chris Gaughan and rookie Rich Bos playing well. The Admirals defense, led by James Lordan and Pat DuBoucher on the defensive line and Ibrahim Khadra and Antonio Garrido at linebacker, overpowered the Marshals offensive line making it difficult for the Marshals quarterback Seth Larson to find the time to connect with his receivers. Larson managed to make plays through the air when he scrambled to avoid the rush.

The Admirals domination continues into the second half with running backs Keith O’Callaghan and rookie Dave Twohig adding two touchdowns in the third quarter. In the same quarter, the Marshals managed to move the ball into scoring range and Darien Bell scored from 9 yards out. Admirals defensive back John Duggan rounded out the third quarter scoring with a 75 yard interception return behind good blocking from defensive backfield teammates Barry Rafferty and John O'Sullivan. During the fourth quarter the Marshals began to move the ball with their running game, but they fell just short of the endzone. Further rushing scores, each from 2 yard out from Pezorant and David Lomasney made the final score 66-8 in favour of the Admirals.

Knights win in Cork
Venue: Pfizers Sports Club, Cork.

Scorers:
1st quarter: CAR: David Wright 32yd run (6-0); COR: Keith O’Callaghan 8yd run + CAR: David Wright conversion return (8-6).
2nd quarter: No scoring.
3rd quarter: No scoring.
4th quarter: CAR: Robert Elliot 3yd run + 2xpt (16-6), CAR: Spencer McDowell 30yd pass from Adam Devenney (24-6)

Game Report.

The final score suggests a comfortable win for the Knights, but in reality the game was a lot closer with both teams separated by a bizarre conversion return until the Knights eventually sealed the game late in the final quarter. The Knights atoned for their loss to the Admirals at the beginning of the season, and can still win a second place finish, and home playoff game, should they win their remaining games.

The Admirals took the firs possession of the game and moved the ball well into the Knights red-zone, Chris Gaughan and Rob Hennessy playing well. The offense did not convert the drive however and the ball was turned over on downs. After a good defensive stand the Admirals got the ball back at midfield and once again moved the ball well before a Keith O'Callaghan fumble deep in Knights territory was recovered by Darren Montgomery.
Running back David Wright put the Knights ahead thanks to a 32 yard touchdown run, which immediately followed a muffed Admirals punt return. However, the Knights lead was short lived. After getting into scoring range, the Admirals tied the score when Keith O’Callaghan scored from 8 yards out behind crushing blocks form Alain Pezeron and Pual Buchanan. The Knights then got a 2 point bonus thanks to a rarely seen 2 point conversion return. Clint McDowell, this time playing on special teams, intercepted the ball from the Admirals on the Admirals conversion attempt and returned the full length of the pitch into the endzone to score 2 points for the Knights.

For most of the remainder of the game, both defences were on top. Pat DuBoucher and James Lordan anchored the Admirals defensive line and Clinton McDowell and David Antuna played well on the Knights defence. The Knights scored their second touchdown on the game on the first play of the final quarter when, after moving the ball form their own 5 yard line in a drive that took up most of the third quarter, fullback Robert Elliot punched in a short yardage touchdown. The Admirals were still in the game until later in the quarter when quarterback Adam Devenney hit tight end Spencer McDowell for a 30 yard touchdown pass to seal the win for the Knights.
Both teams are still very much in play-off contention in a tightly contested IAFL.

Game Report
The Rebels won in Cork thanks to two second half touchdowns in a game that included a good solid defensive performance by both teams. The Admirals probably had the best of the first half, with Keith O'Callaghan, David Lomasney and Alain Pezeron moving the ball well on the ground. The Rebels managed to take advantage of their opportunities to score in the second half to get the win which moves them to 5-0 in the IAFL standings.
The first score of the game came in the tightly fought opening quarter when fullback Simon Mackey broke free for a 26 yard touchdown run. The Admirals levelled up the score in the second quarter when Hugh McBratney caught a 3 yard pass from quarterback Dave Lomasney, after a long Pezeron run put the Admirals inside the Rebels 5 yard line. Defensive linemen on both teams played well throughout the game, Al Kelly and Paul Smyth for the Rebels and Chris Gaughan and Marcus Gates for the Admirals.
The second half started in a similar manner to the first with both defenses playing well. However, a time went by the Rebels began to take advantage of their chances. Quarterback Andy Dennehy hit receiver Carl Faichney for a 21 yard touchdown pass to give the Rebels the lead late in the third quarter. The Rebels then sealed the game in the fourth quarter with a long touchdown run on fourth and 1 from a punt formation by Paul Calner.

The Cork Admirals kept their playoff hopes alive with a victory over the DCU saints at ALSAA sports grounds. Sweltering heat, with temperatures in the high 20s coupled with the intensity of the game made life difficult for both squads.
During the first quarter the visitors gained the lead when, after good stops from the Cork defense, inclunding linebakcers Ibrahim Khadra and Dave Twohig, the Admirals rushing attack, lead by strong rushing by Alain Pezeron moved the ball into the DCU half for a Keith O'Callagahn score. David Lomasney extended the Admirals lead in the second quarter when he hit O'Callaghan in the corner of the endzone for a 27 yard score, which Pezeron converted.
DCU lifted their performance in the third quarter. After stopping the Admirals offense in the DCU redzone the Saints offense, led by elusive runners QB Conor Buggle and HB David McMahon, moved the ball the rest of the way for a McMahon score.
During the 4th quarter the visitors lifted their play and moved the ball into scoring range via runs from James Gallagher, Shane Galway and Lomasney, behind excellent blocking by the Admirals line. Pezeron and Hugh McBratney each scored during this period to make the final score 28-6.
Despite fielding a team of mainly rookies the Saints had some impressive moments and will be a very competitive team next season.
The Admirals move to 3-3-1 and need to win at home against the Bulls next week to hold onto the final playoff spot.
