The Rebels opened the scoring with a 15 yard TD pass from Andy Dennehy to Simon Mackey, which wasn’t converted. The Admirals’ Offense came straight back with a long drive into the Dublin redzone, with WR Dominic MacHale plucking a succession of QB David Lomasney’s passes out of the air in traffic. Unfortunately, the drive ended on a fumbled snap recovered by the Rebels. On the ensuing possession, RB Sam Hodgins racked up good yardage through the middle before turning a short pass into a 20-yard TD, which was not converted. 12-0. The Admirals moved the ball well in the first half, Brian Flinn and Keith O'Callaghan picking up good yardage on the ground, but committed costly fumbles, including one on the Rebels one yard line. The Lomasney to McHale connection worked all day, but didn’t yield any points for Cork in the first half. Rebels QB Dennehy hit WR Conor Ryan in the endzone for a 30-yard TD midway through the 2nd, which Ryan converted, and the Rebels were on the Cork 15-yard line as time expired at the end of the half.

The Admirals approached the 2nd half with a different attitude. Fumbles plagued the Rebels backfield. Two Dublin players were ejected, giving up penalties of 30 and 40 yards. The Cork side capitalised on the field position, with the Admirals defense, anchored by strong play form Pat Du Boucher and Marcus Gates, stifling the Rebels’ solid rushing attack and the offense getting into position for Lomasney to find MacHale in the endzone. The score was not converted. 20-6. RB Marcus Naylor picked up a 25-yard reception to bring Dublin deep into Cork territory. Two plays later, WR Barry McBarrystein held onto a deep pass in double coverage to come down at the 1-yard line. QB Dennehy sneaked it in for the score. 26-8. After recovering a fumble on the Rebels 5-yard line, the Admirals bounced back at the start of the 4th, with QB Lomasney hitting McHale for a score and runshing in the two point attempt. The Cork defense held strong once again, forcing a punt, with Danny Deinert making some important tackles. The Admirals produced a neat trick play – a sweep reverse pass, with the WR hitting fellow WR McHale in the endzone for an exciting touchdown David Lomasney converted the two point try.
On the Rebels next drive, RB Hodgins cut back on a Sweep to slice through the Cork D for a 50-yard score, which he converted. Afer making solid yards on the ground, including a Draw play from Brian Flinn to convert a 3rd and long QB Lomasney hit RB Keith O’Callaghan on a short pass, which he took up the sideline for a 35-yard TD. The Admirals John Kenny recovered Iain O'Callaghan's onside kick with 2 mins to play. However, the Rebels defense stood firm, with DE Paul Smyth and LB Paul Weldon giving good pass rush. The Rebels got the ball back and kneeled out the clock to end an exciting fourth quarter.

Admirals let Bulls pull away in fourth quarter

The Belfast Bulls moved to 6-0 in the IAFL with victory over the Cork Admirals in what was until the end of the fourth quarter a very close and competitive game. Bulls fullback, Mark McGrath scored two touchdowns and ex-Amsterdam Admiral, Jeroen Egge had to forced fumble recoveries to help the Bulls to their win. The first quarter of the game was close with both teams managing to move the ball. The Bulls had the first chance to score when a James Kay interception game them the ball in good field position, but they missed a 25 yard field goal. On the Admirals next offensive play, Jeroen Egge recovered a fumble to give the Bulls another shot to score. Shortly afterwards, Mark McGrath forced the ball in from 5 yards out. The Admirals offense had a good second quarter with quarterback David Lomasney completing some passes. During the quarter, the Admirals used a running back pass from Keith O'Callaghan, and a receiver reverse pass to Dominic MacHale, picking up long gains on each. O'Callaghan also picked up some yardage on the ground. Turnovers cost both teams scores in this quarter. Firstly, a MacHale interception on the goal line stopped the Bulls. Then a second fumble recovery by Jeroen Egge stopped the Admirals. After that a James Lordan fumble recovery stopped the Bulls and finally a Mark Helferty interception stopped the Admirals to leave the score a 6-0 at halftime.

The third quarter followed much the same pattern of the second with both teams moving the ball well, but suffering from turnovers. Both teams had interceptions - Mark Helferty for the Bulls and Dominic MacHale for the Admirals. Towards the end of the quarter, MacHales interception gave the Admirals the ball on the Bulls 24 yard line, but they failed to convert on 4th and goal to turn the ball over to the Bulls. On the first play of the fourth quarter, the Bulls got their second score - a breakaway 63 yard run by Erin Wagner to give them a 12-0 lead. Later on in the same quarter, the Bulls offense began to gradually wear down the Admirals defense. John Denny caught some passes from quarterback James McKelvey and Wagner and McGrath kept the chains moving on the ground. With just under 5 minutes to play, the Bulls got their third score to seal victory - a 21 yard sweep by Mark McGrath which was converted by McKelvey. The Admirals then tried to move the ball through the air, but an interception stopped them inside the two minute warning.

4th Quarter: COR: Keith O'Callaghan 3yd run (6-0).

The Cork Admirals pulled ahead of the Dublin Dragons in the IAFL standings with victory in a very close battle at Lucan Community College. Both defenses dominated the game which was played in very warm sunny conditions. The Admirals won thanks to a 3 yard touchdown run by Keith O'Callaghan with 6 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. The difference between the two sides was possibly down to turnovers - the Admirals had two interceptions and a fumble recovery whereas the Dragons had none. The Admirals first turnover was an interception by Barry Rafferty in the first quarter. Both defenses played well for the remainder of the first half - Pat DuBoucher-Ryan, James Lordan and Ger McGowan were particulary strong for the Admirals. Nick Newby, Franck Hupke and Neil Holland played well for the Dragons.

Both teams had breakaway plays which they failed to convert into scores - Robert Popciobotartepelus caught a long pass for the Dragons and Keith O'Callaghan had some long gains for the Admirals, but neither managed to get on the scoreboard. The Admirals edged on front in the final quarter of the game when a couple of strong inside runs by fullback Marcus Gates got them a first and goal which was converted into a score by O'Callaghan. The Admirals got the ball back almost immediately when Chris Gaughan recovered a Dragons fumble on their first series after the kick-off after touchdown. The Admirals then kept the ball on the ground to run some time off the clock thus ensuring that the Dragons would only get one more possession. Then an interception by John Kenny with just over a minute left to play sealed victory for the Admirals.

The Cork Admirals kept themselves in the play-off hunt with their best performance of the 2005 season against the Dublin Dragons in Cork. The Admirals dominated in all areas of the game scoring 2 defensive and 2 special teams touchdowns. The Dragons got off to a poor start, when Barry Rafferty intercepted Rob Olwill on the first scrimmage play of the game and returned it to the endzone for a touchdown. The Dragons were forced to punt from deep in their own half on their next
possession, giving the Admirals good field position. The Admirals capitalised on this and scored quickly with a 23 yard run by halfback Keith O'Callaghan. The Admirals special teams came up trumps on the Dragons next possession. The Admirals rushed the Dragons punter, who was backed up in his own endzone, forcing him to scramble. He managed to narrowly avoid a safety by reaching the 1 yard line before being tackled. However, the Admirals scored immediately through a 1 yard inside run by fullback Marcus Gates to give them a 26-0 lead at the end of only one quarter.

The second quarter started on a bad note for the Admirals when quarterback David Lomasney had to leave the game with a forearm injury. He was replaced by John Kenny, who'd started most of the Admirals games in the previous two seasons. The Admirals defense continued to make plays and they scored a second defensive touchdown on a 26 yard interception return by Travis Foley. The Dragons failed to move the ball on their next possession. The Admirals put together another scoring drive with Keith O'Callaghan getting his second touchdown of the game on a 3 yard swing pass from Kenny. O'Callaghan got his third touchdown of the game just before the half with a 40 yard punt return - the Admirals second special teams touchdown.

There was no scoring in the third quarter of the game which was played in very hot conditions, though both teams picked up some first downs. The Admirals came close at one stage, but Dragons cornerbacks Steve Walsh and Alan Doyle broke up a couple of passes in the endzone. The Dragons got some first downs from passes to receiver Robert Popciobobartepelus and runs by halfback Dave Wheeler, but once in scoring range were stopped by the Admirals defense. The Admirals finished off the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 14 yard run by Keith O'Callaghan, his fourth touchdown of the day, following picking up some yardage through Marcus Gates. The Admirals victory gives them a 2-4 record with two games remaining. The Dragons drop to 0-7.

The Knights got the first break of the day when defensive tackle Alan Kelley recovered a Cork fumble at midfield. The Knights then drove into scoring range before Clinton McDowell scored on a double reverse from 3 yards out. The Admirals responded almost immediately. On their first series after the kick-off, speedy running back Keith O'Callaghan broke free to score a 63 yard touchdown. The Knights responded on their next possession by moving the ball into scoring range again with some runs by David Wright and passes to a variety of receivers. After getting to the 1 yard line, fullback Darren Montgomery punched the ball in for their second touchdown. However, the Admirals responded in almost an identical way to their previous score. Keith O'Callaghan broke free again to score a 70 yard touchdown run and put his total rushing yardage over 150 yards by only midway in the second quarter. The Knights then put together another scoring drive, culminating with Clinton McDowell's second touchdown of the day to give them a 24-12 lead at halftime.

Their second touchdown came on Spencer McDowell's second reverse run of the day - he broke free from midfield to score a 42 yard touchdown. Derrick Dempsey intercepted the Admirals on the ensuing possession and the Knights capitalised with an 8 yard touchdown pass from Stephen McDowell to tight end Spencer McDowell. Marcus Gates of the Admirals picked up some yardage on the ground for the Admirals during the fourth quarter, but the Knights sealed a good win in terrible conditions with two fourth quarter touchdowns. The first was a 5 yard pass from Stephen McDowell to Robert Clugston and the second was a 31 yard pass to Clinton McDowell.

The Vikings struggled to pass as quarterback Daniel Smith was under a lot of pressure from the Admirals defense which included ex-London Olympian defensive end Paul Buchanan. The Admirals scored their second touchdown on the opening play of the second quarter when David Lomasney caught a pass at the back of the endzone from Alan Lomasney. The Admirals retained the upper hand for the remainder of the half as the numerical disadvantage and some injuries took their toll on the Vikings.
