Lady Broncos Battle FHN
With just 17 minutes remaining in the game, and trailing 1-0, the team tried to play a long ball up the field. The resulting counter-attack hit the crossbar and bounced into the goal for a 2-0 lead for FHN.
They would score again with 6 minutes left to put the game out of reach, but the real story for the Lady Broncos was battling a very good team and keeping with them for most of the game.
Taylor was very strong in goal, and the defense supported her well throughout the match. With West Catholic coming to town on Thursday, it was a good game to fight through. That game always means a lot, and this time will be no different.
Varsity kickoff is at 4:30, JV's follow in their final game of the season.
Thursday, May 14
Lady Broncos Win Against Comstock Park
The Lady Broncos scored six goals in the first half as they ran past the Panthers. Melissa had 5 goals and an assist, Marie had 2 goals and an assist, Grace scored a goal in her first Varsity game, and assists were registered by Meredith, Nicole, and Laura.
The team played without a couple starters out with injuries, and Leigha who was involved in a car accident after school today. Thankfully, she is OK... just a little sore. Thanks to everyone who kept her family in their thoughts and prayers.
The team will be back in action on Monday at Forest Hills Northern. Varsity begins at 6:45, JV at 5:00 PM.
Sunday, May 10
Lady Broncos Battle Cedar to the End
The stage was set for the upset, but a nice move and shot by the Red Hawks ended the game with 7:25 left in OT.
No goals had been scored up to that point, and both teams had held strong on the defensive end to limit quality chances. Coopersville's defense was tested more often, but stood up to the challenge each time.
Not the result the team was looking for, but what a great effort laid out by the team! It was a stellar effort, and there is no shame in losing to a talented team.
Well done girls! You'll reap the rewards of playing well tonight, only later this season...
Strange Week Yields 2-1 Record
The team played their 2nd week of 3 games, and the results were wins over Central 8-1 and Lee 5-0, and a 1-0 loss at Sparta.
The team continues to play hard and give 100%, but poor decisions in certain situations played a key roll in each of these games. To their credit, each opponent stepped up and played their best games of the season against the team. Their coaches confirmed that.
The Lady Broncos record stands at 10-5 overall, 6-4 in the league. Important league games against Cedar Springs (Monday) and Comstock Park (Thursday) will occur this week. Both are at CHS in the stadium.
The team will step up and be ready...
Friday, May 1
Lady Broncos Beat Solid Oakridge Team
The Lady Broncos welcomed Oakridge in for a non-league tilt that proved to be a very entertaining match. Oakridge came to town with a 7-1 record and the lead in their conference. They left town with a 3-1 loss at the hands of a determined Coopersville team. Coopersville moved its overall record to 8-4 with the victory.
Marie started the scoring for the Lady Broncos with 19:58 left in the first half on a hard low shot that found the far corner of the goal. Meredith set the play up and delivered the assist to Marie's foot. Melissa scored the second goal on a workmanlike effort as she weaved downfield and unleashed a driving shot that hit the far corner of the goal.
Oakridge would pull within a goal with just 34 seconds left in the half on a corner kick that was knocked in by a Bronco defender after a small volley in front of the goal.
The game went back and forth as Oakridge applied pressure in the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half, but couldn't crack the stingy defense of the Lady Broncos. Melissa delivered an insurance goal with 20:11 left on the clock on a floating shot that fell perfectly into the goal over the outstretched arms of the Oakridge keeper.
Coops outshot Oakridge 12 to 8 for the game, and did a great job of getting to 50/50 balls and creating possession.
The Lady Broncos return to action on Monday vs. GR Central. The game is scheduled to be played at Riverside Park in GR. We'll keep you updated if anything changes regarding game location.

League Play Continues
The Lady Broncos played 2 league games this week. Monday's was a battle at West Catholic that saw the Falcons score early on a free kick and then hold on as the Broncos battled the elements and other factors. The Lady Broncos played well enough to win, but some breaks didn't go their way and the game finished with West up 1-0. Kailey was injured in the 1st half and didn't play the rest of the game; her status for the rest of the season is still unclear... We do get to play West again, at Home...
Wednesday's game had the team going to Belding. After a long bus ride the girls scored 3 in each half for the 6-0 final. Melissa had 3 goals and an assist, Marie had 2 goals and an assist, Leigha scored a goal, and assists were recorded by Theresa and Tareyn. The defense played well and pitched the shutout.
The Lady Broncos host Oakridge on Friday in what should be a tough game. We look forward to meeting up with them again after not playing them in a few seasons. Kickoff is at 5 PM.

FHN Outscores Lady Broncos
The Lady Broncos played with intensity and heart, matching the effort put forth by the Huskies... they could not stop them from scoring.
FHN scored once in the 1st half and twice in the 2nd half while the Lady Broncos put the final score on the board with 15:38 remaining. Coops had one more great scoring chance but the ball sailed wide. Kailey buried a slow rolling shot by Laura into the net for the lone Lady Bronco score.
Another great part of the game was the heart of the defenders... not just the defense, because everyone played tough defense tonight. Standouts were everyone on the defense, mids, and forwards... everyone contributed.
Taylor made 18 saves in goal, some of which were completely amazing. The team played their guts out again, and worked hard to create any chance they had.
Coops returns to action on Monday to travel to our old friends, West Catholic.
JV - The Lady Broncos played a great game and came away with a 2-1 win. Nicole had the first goal and Christina the second as the defense clamped down in the final minutes to seal the win.

Lady Broncos Freeze the Panthers
Cold is relative, and the weather was extremely cold on Monday when the field at Comstock Park was unplayable and the game was moved to Coopersville. The May 15 date will now be played at Comstock Park at 4 PM.
Laura had 2 goals, one of which was a nice header. Kailey had 2 goals, Marie and Melissa each had one. Assists were recorded by Kailey, Anna, and Marie.
The defense did a great job of pitching the shutout, the 4th so far this season. The record now stands at 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the OK-Blue.
Forest Hills Northern comes to town on Wednesday for the first round game. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:45 PM.
Friday, April 17
Lady Broncos Suffer 1st Loss in League Play
The Lady Broncos traveled to Cedar Springs for a showdown, and that's what it was. Cedar scored the lone goal of the 1st half with 5:24 left to take a 1-0 lead into half-time. Before that, it was back and forth action with both teams trying to create opportunities and neither being successful. That was in part due to the defense of both teams which limited the scoring chances.
The teams would play more back and forth until with just over 15 minutes left Cedar scored again off a free kick to distance the two teams. They added another goal in the final minutes to close the scoring.
Coops will return to action on Monday at Comstock Park. This is a Varsity only date, and the game will be played at Pine Island Elementary.
JV - The JV's lost to Cedar 4-0 and will play again on Wednesday vs. FHN.
Win Over Sparta Brings Lady Broncos to 5-1 Record
With a 6-0 victory over Sparta, Coops is 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the OK-Blue. The win sets up a tough match-up on Friday night in Cedar Springs with both teams sporting a 3-0 record in league play.
Coops got 3 goals in each half as they controlled possession and managed to come away with their third consecutive shutout. First half goals were scored by Melissa (2 - the first she dribbled around the defense and scored unassisted from the right side, the second was a header off a corner from Kailey), and Meredith on a nice shot that came from another Kailey assist.
The 2nd half goals were scored by Kailey, Marie, and Laura. Assists were registered by Melissa, Meredith, and Kailey (her 3rd assist of the game).
The defense did a great job limiting the Spartans to 4 shots on goal, and Taylor did well in goal stopping the chances Sparta created.
JV - The JV climbed to a 3-2 record with a 2-0 win over Sparta. Corina and Nicole scored the Broncos goals... This team gets better every game.

Lady Broncos Roll to 4th Win
The Lady Broncos played host to GR Central and moved their league record to 2-0 with a 8-0 victory. Their overall record improves to 4-1.
Heading into a stiff wind in the first half, the Lady Broncos managed 4 goals on 9 shots. Goals were scored by Kailey, Meredith, Anna, and Marie; assists were recorded by Meredith and Melissa (2). The defense and midfield held the line and didn't allow any shots on goal.
Taking the field with the wind at their back, the team scored 4 goals in 5:20 to end the game with 34:40 left on the clock. Second half goals were scored by Meredith, Anna, Marie, and Melissa; assists by Melissa, Kailey, and Marie.
The team is now off until after spring break when they'll begin league play again on April 15 when they'll host Sparta.
JV - the team continues to improve, scoring a 7-0 win vs. Central. They're back in action on April 15 when they'll play Sparta.

Lady Broncos Begin League Play with a Win
The Lady Broncos began league play vs. Belding tonight and came away with a 7-0 win at home. The team was eager to play after their success this past weekend and controlled play and created multiple opportunities but it would take a bit for the team to cash in on those opportunities.
Some of that had to do with Belding, a team that never quit and played hard until the final whistle. Their team showed great character and determination; they'll have their success at some point this season.
Every player contributed, and the defense was very tough. They earned the shutout by turning away the Redskins at every chance. It was also a night for the offense. Kristi scored her first goal of the season on an assist by Melissa. Kailey scored 6 goals which breaks the school record. Helping her achieve that goal with some great assists were Meredith, Melissa, Laura (2), Marie, and Kristi.
The team is back in action on Wednesday at home vs. GR Central. Kickoff is set for 6:45.

Lady Broncos Win Invitational Championship
The Varsity won the Championship with wins over Allendale (5-1) and Hamilton (3-1). This is the first time in the 4 year history of the tournament that the Lady Broncos have won it all. Credit goes to each member of the team for their hard work and desire to improve on the start of the season.
Against Allendale; Laura scored the first 2 goalsfor a 2-0 lead at halftime. Second half goals were added by Kailey, and 2 from Melissa. Kailey added 2 assists to round out the scoring. The midfield and defense did a great job of keeping control of the game.
Against Hamilton; Marie, Kailey, and Melissa scored the goals with assists from Meredith and Kailey (2). The defense did a great job of stepping up and handling the pressure that Hamilton gave.
It was a cold day, but the tournament went well with no major injuries and everyone seemed to have fun.
The JV lost a close match to Allendale (1-0) in their opening game, but came back strong to defeat Kenowa Hills (5-0) for their first win of the season. It was a great effort by these girls, and they continue to improve each time they step on the field.

Spring Lake Too Much in Opener
The Lady Broncos played Spring Lake tonight and allowed a goal in the first minute and 2 more in the last 1:30 of the half to trail 4-1 at half-time. Kailey scored the Broncos lone goal on a long floating shot from the right sideline.
The team then surrendered 4 goals in the 2nd half, mostly due to lost marks in front of the goal. In the loss there were positives that will be built upon and many areas for improvement that will also be built upon.
Spring Lake is a good team, but not 8-1 better. The team will be back in action this Saturday for the 4th Annual Invitational.
JV- The team played their first game together and suffered a 8-0 setback. The girls worked hard and will continue to improve as the season progresses.
