Home of the Cook Hornets. Bruce Long Memorial Field is located on the campus of Cook High School. The field was dedicated in the memory of former Hornet Head Baseball Coach, Bruce Long, who led the Hornets from 1970-1978. Long stayed on at Cook High until 1992. The dedication ceremony was on March 17, 1994, as the Hornets defeated Coffee High 10-8. Bruce Long Memorial Field has permanent seating for 225 fans. The facility boasts lighting for night games, two all weather batting tunnels, and an extensive practice area behind center field. The dimensions of the park are 310 to left field, 345 to center(25 foot wall), and 280 down the right field line with a 25 foot screen (The Black Monster). Due to the winning tradition at Cook High, "The Bruce" has been home to several key playoff series and host of one State Championship Series where Cook swept the Eastside Eagles in 2000, 10-0 and 8-5. Cook posted a 24 home game winnng streak against AA schools from 1999-2001. Recently, in 2009, the Hornets went 13-0 at home in regular season play, giving them 24-straight wins at the "Bruce" in regular season play. Top nicknames given to Bruce Long Memorial Field. 1.
