Cook Hornet Baseball is one of the highly respected programs in the state of Georgia, as the Hornets average over 20+ wins a season and produce some of the states top players. The Hornets have played in a State Championship Series in every decade dating back to the 1970's(1975,1983,1992,1998,2000) and have won two (1992,2000). Cook has also won 16 Region Titles and 9 Sub-Region titles. The Hornets have also played in a post-season either Region Playoffs or State Playoffs (10 consecutive) for 21 consecutive seasons, with an overall record of 463-198 in that 21 year span.

THE 1990's "SOUTH GA's TEAM OF THE 90'S"
The Hornets won over 200 games in the 1990's, played in six Final Fours, won six of seven Quarter-Final appearances, played in two State Championships, won the 1992 State Championship, and won four Region Championships. The graduating class of 1994 made the Final Four every season of play from 1991-1994. The success in the 1990's gave Cook High Baseball the label as South GA's AA "TEAM OF THE 90's."

THE 2000's "THE WINNING TRADITION CONTINUES, SOUTH GA'S TEAM OF DECADE"
Cook opened up the new decade with a bang, destroying their opponents in 2000 on their way to a 30-win State Championship season. It was Cook's second state title appearance in three seasons. Since 2000 through 2009, Cook is 177-43 against AA schools (113-17 in Region play, 48-22 in state playoffs, and 16-4 vs non-region AA opponents in reg. season play).  Overall, Cook is 239-87. The Hornets have made the state playoffs every season this decade, won 6 Region Titles (00,02,05,06,08,09), finished Region Runner-Up three times (01,04,07), made eight Elite Eight appearances (00,01,02,05,06,07,08,09), played in four Final Fours (00,05,08,09), and won the 2000 AA State Championship with a 30-7 mark (18-1 against AA opponents that season).  Cook posted undefeated region records in 2000, 2005, 2006, 2008 and most recently in 2009. The Hornets have set #1 in the A.P and/or Coaches Poll in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2009 in either pre-season, regular season, or final state rankings.  Cook finished in the top 10 State Rankings every season but one since 2000 (Finished ranked in the top ten 16 times in 19 seasons).

  • A special thanks to Hornet fans and Cook County community for all your support and commitment of excellence during the 2009 season.
  • Notes:  DJ Johnson broke the single season strikeout record at Cook High.  The previous record was 142 strikeouts, by Kyle Goff in 2001.  Johnson K'ed 148 in 2009....Kaleb Cowart tied Steven Browning for the single season homerun record, which is 16.  Browning has held the record by himself since 1983.

Long led Cook to its first of many Region Championships in 1975, which was also the program's first state playoff appearance.
