CURRENT RULES FOR UTILIZING THE FIELDS AT WALKER JR. HIGH

Keep in mind these rules change day to day, week to week...and we are always trying to update them and keep our little league parents, coaches and players informed. Check in frequently for day to day information.
Field use rules...
COACHES are allowed to arrive prior to 4:00 PM to set up fields. This includes chalking, raking, dragging, watering, putting out the bases, etc. It's ok if you have a kid or two with you. Be sure to remind the kids NOT to throw or hit any balls while you're setting up prior to 4:00 PM.
If you as a coach are arriving prior to 4:00 PM, there is a good chance the school intramural program will still have kids on the field. It's ok to enter the field you're playing on but always have respect for the intramural programs should they be close by. Do not interfere with them in any form or fashion.
PARKING. It's ok for coaches and managers to park their cars in the front lot during this time. DO NOT park your vehicle in the back of the school. DO NOT drop off gear and kids in the back parking lot. The back parking lot is off limits for little league. Use the front lot only.
GOLF CART: It goes without saying but please be careful with the golf cart. Never leave the key in the cart for fear that a kid, belonging to the league or the school, could easily joy ride around the fields and hurt someone. This is critical. Keep the key with you at all times.
SNACK BAR is allowed to arrive prior to 4:00 PM for setup.
PLAYERS can begin warmup after 4:00 PM, which includes stretching, running (outside the field area is ok), throwing inside the field area, and controlled hitting by a coach. Under no circumstances are players to be hitting the ball (real baseballs) or taking batting practice between 4:00 and 4:30 PM. WHIFFLE BALLS are ok INSIDE the field area during this half hour period. Once we switch to daylight savings time (March 11), hitting whiffles outside the field after 4:30 is acceptable.
PARENT PARKING. The school has requested that parents not arrive at the field too much earlier than 4:30 PM. They are concerned about their intramural kids getting picked up in the parking lot and not having enough room to do it. Currently our games start at 4:30 so this is a tough request. However, in another week or so we will be switching gametime to 5:00 PM, thereby making it much easier. Honor this time request as best you can during the interim.
WHY? Where did all these rules come from? Last year or the year before, one of our players (or coaches) was hitting live balls inside the field area, with one landing outside the field area just inches away from a Walker intramural sports kid. It was so close that the school decided to get tougher with field usage and times. The school worries that someone will get hurt if this is not monitored correctly. This is a big reason why we have these rules.
PLEASE BE PATIENT and do the right thing on the field. We are using someone else's property and it's important we abide by the rules. Walker Jr High is and has been our partner for quite some time. We need them and they need us for taking care of the fields. After 4:30, they don't really care what goes on with little league as 99% of their school people and kids are gone. Teach our kids to respect the school and its property at all times.
