Championship Game Recap (8/26/2012)

It was a beautiful day at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport this past Sunday. The 3rd seeded Orange Concentration faced off against defending champion, 4th seeded Bridgeport All-Stars. The teams had split during the regular season, so it was expected to be a very competitive game... it was. In the top of the first the All-Stars jumped out to a quick lead after a shaky Ned Wood allowed 2 quick runs. Wood walked two and and hit a batter to bring cleanup hitter Mike Tamsin to the plate. The first run was scored on a wild pitch and the second run was an RBI sac fly by Tamsin. Ned wood settled down in the second but had trouble again in the third inning. With two outs and a man on second Tamsin came up big again with an RBI single to make the score 3-0. Bridgeport's Mike Moras added a fourth run in the top of the fifth on an error by the Orange SS. Through 4 Bridgeport starter A.J. Nevells had been cruising not allowing a hit until the fifth and sixth innings when Orange came alive and was able to push 3 across. Orange put up two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Zack Sousa doubled down the right field line and was driven in on a single by Marc DeMattie. Brian Paturas then bunted for a hit and Demattie was driven in on a fielders choice by Chris Paturas. In the top of the sixth Bridgeport would get those two runs back with a RBI Sac fly by John Tenn and an RBI single by Sal Savo. Orange continued to put pressure on Bridgeport in the bottom of the sixth. Back-to-back singles by Joe Pisano and Dave Appel to start the inning was followed up by a long double in the left center gap by Zack Sousa to make the game 3-6. That was all the scoring for the day as reliever Dave Wirkus completed the game not allowing a run. A.J. Nevells cruised the rest of the way and struck out the final batter to earn a 6-3 victory for Bridgeport's Second Consecutive Southern Connecticut NABA Summer Championship. Counting NABA Fall ball This Is the Fourth Consecutive NABA Championship By Bridgeport and they look to go for a Fifth this fall. Thanks Ozzie and everybody in the league for another great year! See you next Summer!!
