TITANS YARD SALE FUNDRAISER 2006
UPDATE!

Well, the yard sale has come and gone as did a lot of [junk]. Thankfully, Mother Nature graced us with a dry, breezy weekend. As the caffeine course through our veins, we had some good laughs and even made some money! So thanks to everyone who donated "stuff", and loaned tables and crawled out of bed early to help set up, and those who stayed to sell and those who came to pack up. It really was a tremendous help and your generosity benefitted the entire team--give yourselves a round of applause!

And now for the grand total... [drumroll please]

$1425.00

woo-hoo!!

*****************************************************************************************************************

In order to reduce out-of-pocket expense for each family, we ask that you donate items to our annual yard sale. This has been our main source of team funds and we've been quite successful with it. I believe last year we came in somewhere around the $800 mark.
In the past, this event has been held both Saturday and Sunday of one weekend. I'd like to hold this year's sale on October 14th and 15th. Our game on the 15th is at 9am, so if we want to sell on Sunday, we can set up after the game.

The holidays are coming so what better time to clean out the old junk to make room for the new!
In the next few weeks, sort through and set aside items you'd like to donate. Let me know if and what you can donate (so I can determine if we have enough to make the sale worthwhile.)
Please box the items and bring them over either Friday or early Saturday morning of that weekend.

As always, I need at least 2 volunteers per day. If you cannot stay for a shift, then perhaps you can
at least help set up and/or clean up as this usually is the hardest part.
Bagels and coffee are served to the morning crew and pizza and soda to the afternoon crew.

Folding tables are needed if you can loan one.

At the end of the sale, I need someone with a large car or truck to help transport the remaining
items to the GoodWill store in the Elwood plaza across from Elwood Road. If you want to retrieve
your items that have not sold, please let me know ahead of time, otherwise they will be boxed and donated
as I do not have space in my garage to keep the stuff for the next garage sale.

Some points to keep in mind:
  • Do not put price stickers on anything - we price as we sell. We tend to do better that way
  • If you have games/toys/puzzles, please indicate if they are "complete" (having all pieces)
  • Believe it or not, clothes and shoes sell well if they're barely worn or like new - esp. old soccer uniforms!
  • Leave the stuffed animals at home. They do not sell well and GoodWill does not take them.

Yard Sale Profits Exceed Past 2 Years!
9/27/04
Anyone who's ever held a yard sale before, knows how much work it takes to have a profitable one. So, before rolling out the numbers, I first wish to express many thanks to all the families that contributed their "wares" to our Third Annual Yard Sale. Without you, we'd have no fundraiser. Just as important are the many hands that hang signs, loan tables, bring bagels, set up, sell, pick up lunch, and clean up. It just would not have been as successful without all those people involved. So thank you very much for giving up hours of your weekend for the benefit of the entire team. And now, the grand total...

$1,675

Gaming Guidelines
Follow these steps to ensure you play your best at this weekend's or any games:

• CARBOS PROVIDE ENERGY
Load up on carbohydrates at dinner the evening before. Pasta or a potato will provide extra energy. Avoid them on game day because you will feel full and sluggish.

• HYDRATE
Start hydrating your body the day before by drinking lots of water and non-diaretic fluids. Avoid teas and colas. Continue drinking water on game day.

• GET A GOOD NIGHT'S REST
That means no sleepovers and going to bed at a reasonable hour. It's harder to concentrate with only a few hours sleep.

• EAT LIGHT
Don't sit down to a heavy breakfast... If you must eat, have a piece of fruit or toast. The water you are drinking will help fill you. Be sure to eat at least 1.5 hours before you are due on field. If your body has to work on digesting, you may not have enough energy for soccer. And, you don't want to get sick on field.

• PROTECT YOUR SKIN
Most sunblocks recommend applying lotion one hour before being in the sun. Don't forget your scalp-line and lips!

• LEAVE YOURSELF ENOUGH TIME
Get an idea of how long your drive will be in order to arrive on field a half hour before game time. It's better to be early than late! Also, you don't want to miss warm-ups as you may increase your risk of injury.

Titans win Tournament and Sportsmanship

Message from the coach

Congrats, ladies, you played great in that tournament! I hope you got your rest. Missed Theresa and Erin. But the best news of all-- the Titans won a silver Chevron in Sportsmanship and I could not be more proud. The patch will be worn on your new jerseys on the left sleeve. This is a wonderful accomplishment and you all deserve a round of applause. But now, back to work--a fun scrimmage against the Cobras then the HBC tournament. Season starts soon. We are expecting big things...aim for first place. It is there for the taking--you just have to work for it!
SEE YA

LI Cares thanks Commack Titans
letter

Back in November of last year, the Commack Titans held a "Food" Drive for Long Island Cares of Hauppauge. Long Island Cares is a not-for-profit organization, community based, regionally responsive, and working in partnership with other charitable agencies to fight hunger in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. The girls were given flyers to attach to brown shopping bags and then distribute to neighbors. After a few days, they went back to those homes to pick up whatever donations the neighbor left on their steps. When all of the donations were gathered and boxed, they were dropped off at Long Island Cares in time for Thanksgiving. The attached letter gratefully acknowledges the Titans for their generosity and efforts, which netted a total of 246 lbs of assorted food for the hungry! Way to go, Titans! Your charitableness is just another reason why you are the special girls that you are.

Mickey Kicking
Safety
Are your daughter's shins properly protected against kicks and cuts, bumps and bruises? If it's been a while since you bought her shinguards, ask her to try them on. Chances are, she'll need new ones. Shinguards should cover most of the area from the ankle to the knee. Measure her shin from just below where the knee bends to about 1 inch above her shoe top. This is the proper length of the shinguard. For more information on how to purchase properly fitted shinguards, see the article posted below.

Keep 'Em in the Loop
Here's an easy way to keep Grandpa or Aunt Edna up to date as to how their Titan is doing this season...send them an invitation! It's easy. Just scroll down to the yellow box under the navigation bar on the left side and click Email A Friend. They'll receive an automated invitation from Eteamz to become an official online Titans fan. Then they can post their well-wishes in the guestbook too!
