Columbus Water Polo : Welcome

Welcome to the webpage for Columbus Water Polo!

We are a water polo program that is geared towards developing our athletes from the youth age groups through high school throughout Columbus, Ohio. Our opportunities are for boys and girls of all levels. We practice almost year-round, with kids in the winter (14+under, Jan-Feb), all age groups spring and summer (5+up, March-July), and kids in the fall (14+u, Sept-Oct), taking the holiday season off.

***High school season for water polo is in the fall, so most of our athletes play for their respective high schools or for our Club hosted team, the Hawks, for those athletes without a designated high school team to play on. High school swim season is in the winter, which is why they are off then as well - it is HIGHLY recommended that our water polo athletes get involved with a swim team, as much of our sport is made up of swimming. We do try to travel to some competitions in the spring and summer.

Here you will find information for our practices, tournaments, and more. Please check out the tabs on the side for any attachments and My Site News for any of our older information.

Fisher Family

As many of you may have heard, there was a tragedy this weekend for our Columbus Water Polo community. 5 members of our club team along with a mother were in an accident on the way to a high school tournament Friday. The girls in the accident currently play for Worthington Kilbourne High School and it took the life of one of our beloved club members, Courtney Fisher. She was a 19-year old who loved water polo and was a long-time member of our Columbus WP Club, played at Worthington Kilbourne High School, played on the Midwest Zone USA Water Polo Olympic Development Program, and most recently played D1 water polo at Marist College for an incredible coach and former Olympian, Natalie Benson. Courtney was traveling with her family, showing her love of the sport to help the Worthington team and cheer on her sisters until she left for her sophomore year of college.

Courtney's unbelievable spirit, hard work, and dedication were an absolute inspiration to our other club members and coaches.  Her unprovoked willingness to be the first one helping to set up and get practice started and the last one to clean up the pool area, along with her neverending desire to learn is something we will always cherish. We are lucky to have had the years of special moments with her throughout her youth, high school, and even this past summer as she helped to push our girls to be their best and share all that she had recently learned throughout her short college water polo experience. The loss is severe and heartbreaking. She will be missed but never forgotten.

In the meantime, the rest of the girls and their families need our love. Courtney's mom, Vicki, was in the accident, 2 of her younger sisters Betsey and Melanie, and club teammates Sami and Sydney. Please keep the Fisher family and everyone affected in your hearts.

Our club coach Olivia coaches Worthington Kilbourne Girls currently - we're with you as you care for your girls. We will be helping Worthington out in this time of need, so as we ask for volunteers for upcoming events, we look forward to the continued support in the community. Please reach out if you need anything.

Love, Coach Maura and Coach Geoff
