Please note that ALL coaches for Columbus United are IMPACT certified. "IMPACT, an acronym for Increased Mastery and Professional Application of Coaching Theory, is a 4-hour course for the volunteer or beginning coach. Emphasis is on drill development, principals of learning skills, resources, and ethics."

Dana Giancaterino - Certified Trainer

Dana graduated from Licking Heights High School in 2004 and continued her education at Columbus State Community College and Capital University where she is double majoring in Sports Marketing and Nutrition. Dana is certified in the International Sports Science Association (ISSA) and in the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). Dana is also certified in CPR and First Aid. From September of 2003 through December of 2006 Dana worked as a Personal Trainer and Health and Nutrition Consultant at the New Albany Country Club. Since June 2006 Dana has worked for MRDD (Mental Retardation Development Disability) where she does individualized training and also teaches students to live independently.
Dana will conduct weekly strength, conditioning, and jump training sessions with Columbus United players. We are very excited to offer her services to our players and very happy to have her with us for the 2008 season!

Ryan Zelnis - 18 Winter and Spring

This will be Ryan's 3rd year coaching with Columbus United. Ryan began as the assistant coach for our 18u team in 2006. In 2007 he was the head coach for the 18u Winter and Spring teams. Ryan also helped coach the 18u team that traveled to Reno, Nevada for The Volleyball Festival in the summer of 2006. Ryan has been a camp coach for Matchpoint the past two summers and was also an assistant coach for a 16s team at Westland Volleyball Club in 2003.
Ryan graduated from Hilliard Darby in 2003 where he received OCC Player of the Year, Central Region Player of the Year, First Team All Ohio, and he was inducted into the Hilliard Darby Athletics Hall of Fame. Ryan was also a Bronze medalist his junior year at the Junior Club Nationals. Ryan continued his volleyball career with one season on the Ohio Northern University Men's Volleyball Team where he won a Silver medal at the D-II Men's Volleyball Nationals.
"I have been surrounded by volleyball in my family for over 12 years which has helped me develop a unique love for the game. Through coaching I intend to further the interest in volleyball of upcoming players as wellas educate them and make them better players of the game. I believe in fine tuning physical skills as well as developing a player's mental aspect of volleyball. I was fortunate to play for some passionate and knowledgeable coaches during my career and I will strive to provide a fun and demanding atmosphere to best reach a player's full potential."

Tricia Nunemaker - 14 Winter

Tricia begins her first year coaching at Columbus United with ten years of coaching experience. Tricia is currently the Varsity volleyball coach at Reynoldsburg High School. Previously Tricia has been the coach of the Pickerington Central Girls JV volleyball team (06-07), Pickerington Central Boys JV/Varsity teams (04-06), Canal Winchester girls middle school team (00-06). Tricia was also the club director and coach for Eastside Volleyball Club from 2000 to 2005 and a coach for the Round Town Volleyball Club from 1998 to 2000.
Tricia graduated from Gahanna Lincoln in 1987 where she played Middle and Setter and she graduated from Ohio Dominican College in 1991 where she played Right Side and Back Row. Tricia also has experience playing on USAVB Women's club teams and adult co-ed teams throughout Columbus and Pickerington.
Tricia's coaching objectives are "To share my passion, to teach through experience and to challenge the individual to become a better student, person, and athlete."
We are very happy to have Tricia with us at Columbus United for the 2008 season!

Sarah Stephen - 16 Winter and Spring

Sarah has played volleyball since the 4th grade, and played club volleyball for 7 years, 2 years with Columbus United. She was Co-Captain of her 18U Columbus United team in 2003. She played in the Volleyball Festival in Sacramento, CA in 2001 and 2002, both years under coach Kris Kern. Sarah was looking forward to playing volleyball at the Division III college level but a shoulder injury her senior year did not make that possible.
Sarah coached 8th grade volleyball at St. Tims from '00-'02, winning one Championship. Sarah coached the 7th grade volleyball team at St. Tims in '03. Sarah is currently the Freshman Volleyball Coach at Bishop Watterson Highschool (78-10 overall, 4 CCL Championships). With Columbus United, Sarah has coached 12s, 13s, 14s, 15s, and 16s teams and has many tournament and Regional tournament Championships. Sarah was also the assistant coach of the Columbus United 18 and Under team that traveled to Reno, Nevada for the Volleyball Festival in the summer of 2005.
The 2008 season will be Sarah's 5th year coaching for Columbus United and will also be her 4th year as co-director of CUVC as well as webmaster for our website.
" I focus on fundemental skills and then building on them to teach more advanced skills that will enable the team to increase their level of competition and to also understand the mental aspect of the game. My philosophy as a club coach is to aid players in achieving and surpassing personal and team goals throughout the season with a focus on helping the player to move on to the next level at their high school while promoting a motivating, positive, and professional atmosphere."
Sarah graduated from Bishop Watterson in 2003 and is currently studying English at The Ohio State University. She spends her free time reading, playing with her 3 dogs, and playing in numerous adult volleyball leagues in Columbus, Dublin, Worthington, and Westerville.

Doug Teztmeier - 15 Spring

Doug has over 15 years of coaching experience and we are very happy to have him with us for his first year at Columbus United. Doug played at Ohio State and has since played in 6 USVBA Nationals. Doug is currently the JV coach at Watkins Memorial and before that he coached at Johnstown High School for 3 years. Doug has also assisted coached at Ohio State and Capital University. Doug also has 15 years of club experience. He was the director and coach of Bell-Haun VBC for 7 years and most recently he coached 6 years for Westerville VBC.

Caitlin Carl - 14 and 15 Winter and 14 Spring

Caitlins volleyball career began in 7th grade and continued throughout high school. Her club volleyball experience began with North Columbus Volleyball Club where she played for two years before becoming a player for the first team offered by the newly formed Columbus United Volleyball Club. Caitlin continued to play for Columbus United until she graduated. As a member of the Columbus United Volleyball Club, Caitlin made three trips to the Davis Cup Tournament in Sacramento, California. Caitlin received several invitations to continue playing in college, but decided to concentrate on other obligations & pursue different opportunities.
In the spring of 2006, Caitlin returned to Columbus United Volleyball Club as a coach for the 13U team and in 2007 she coached the 14 Winter and Spring teams. The 2008 season will be Caitlins 3rd season coaching for CUVC.
Caitlin has a strong passion for volleyball and enjoys sharing her love of the game through coaching.
As a coach I believe in providing a strong foundation that teaches the concepts, strategies, and challenges of being a good volleyball player while emphasizing the importance of integrity and good sportsmanship.
Caitlin graduated from Worthington Kilbourne in 2003 and is finishing her B.A. in Strategic Communications at The Ohio State University; she will graduate in March 2008.

Lindsey Thobe - 12 Spring
|
|
Lindsey played volleyball for St.Henry during middle school and high school. She also played club volleyball for seven years through out that time. During her Junior and Senior years at St.Henry High School, her team won the M.A.C. conference title and participated for the state DIV volleyball title. During her junior year, the team placed 2nd, making them runners up, and during her senior year they got 1st place at state.
Lindsey is currently a member of the Ohio State Women's Club Volleyball Team.

Karen Morlan - 12 Spring

Karen has coached eighteen seasons of high school female athletics. She has been the head varsity volleyball coach at New Albany High School for four seasons and was named the 2004 MSL Coach of the Year. In 2004, the varsity squad won the league for the first time in school history. Prior to this position, Karen was an assistant coach for the volleyball and basketball programs at Westerville North High School (1994-2001) and New Albany High School (1991-1993). In her twelve seasons of coaching volleyball, she has had the privilege of being involved with five league championships, two district championships, one regional championship, and a trip to the state final four.
