Bulldogs: 2009 - season review
To kick off the 2009 season the CPD Bulldogs held a fundraising party at the Park St. Patio. Celebrity Bartenders; Kirk Herbstreit, Rick Nash, Mike Commodore, Derrick Brassard and Jimmy Jam teamed up to raise money. The Bulldogs raised $ 16,000.00 for the team and Get Behind the Badge. Over 600 people came to the event and it was featured on several Columbus website and the national MSBL magazine "harball".
The 2009 Bulldogs came into the season with high hopes for a conference championship. The team started strong, winter workouts and winning both preseason games. The regular season came and the dogs dropped the first 2 games.
After a tough start the team packed up and went to Las Vegas for the '09 Las Vegas Classic. The boys in blue stayed at the Harrahs and enjoyed their time in Sin City on and off the field. The team did not advance in the tournament but came together and came together as a team.
The Bulldogs came back from Vegas and continued to march in the regular season of the Columbus Mens Senior Baseball League. The Bulldogs defense was outstanding most of the season with solid infield and outfield play. The team struggled all season at the plate and rarely got the offense going. Bulldogs pitchers typically put out a great performance on the mound but could not overcome the lack of runs produced by the dogs.
The boys in blue finished the regular season at 8-12 and finished in 4th place in the divsion. In tournament play, the bulldogs went 1-2 and lost a close game to the rival Pirates at Mckoy Park.
The CPD squad played at Bill Davis Stadium, home of the Buckeyes, againts the Ohio Highway Patrol on August 22nd, 2009. The Bulldogs raised over $5,000 for the Columbus chapter of the Alzheimers Association during the game. This game was covered by all of the local media and brought alot of positive attention to the Division.
The team again hit the road and went to Chicago to play in the 2009 Chicago Police-Fire Baseball Tournament. The Bulldogs went 1-2 in Chicago and enjoyed the great baseball stadium and had a blast all day and night in the windy city.
The Bulldogs had another great year but did not escape major injuries to key players. The dogs first lost co-captain and second basemen Matt Baase who dove for a ball in the hole which resulted in a torn labrum that required surgery. During the 2009 Charity game, Sgt. Rich Weiner broke his leg sliding into 2nd base and went into surgey a week later. While in Chicago, a play at the plate broke the arm of rookie standout Mike Slivanya.
As the team looks back at a great 2009, the team looks foward to another great season in the sun!

Bulldogs battle in the Windy City
The Columbus Police Baseball Bulldogs travelled to Chicago to be a part of the 2009 Chicago Police and Fire baseball tournament. The Bulldogs almost made the semi-finals but fell short of qualifying.
The Bulldogs had a great trip on and off the field including a great dinner and Harey Carays, Giordanos and checking out the nighlife.
The Bulldogs tip our cap to Eric Diaz and the entire Chicago Police and Fire baseball teams for making the Columbus Officers feel at home. We also recognize the St. Paul MN. Police team for winning the tournament.

Military All Stars defeat CPD
The Columbus Police Baseball Bulldogs played a charity game for Operation Louisville Slugger at Dublin Coffman H.S. on the 4th of July. The game was close for 5 innings with the U.S. Military All Stars holding a 1 run lead. Starting pitcher, Brett Johnson, pitched a great game. Americas Finest broke the bats out in the 5th inning scoring 5 runs. The Bulldogs played stellar defense but did not hit well enough to keep it close. Thanks to many donations, USA CARES, was able to collect a LOT of new and used sporting goods as well as cash donations. The donations will be sent to troops overseas to use as a morale booster. The Bulldogs then hosted the players at their homes for the night and had a great BBQ at night. The boys in blue took the loss but it was a great day as the Columbus Finest and Americas Finest mixed it up for a good cause. The CPD Baseball team would like to thank the following people for their efforts. Final Score 8-0
FOP President Jim Gilbert: Throwing out the 1st pitch
The Deputy Chiefs for their support
Kim Moorman: USA Cares director
Rich & Kelly Weiner: hosting the BBQ
Nick Shirtzinger: taking photos
Umpires: for working on a holiday
Tim Saunders: Baseball coach for Dublin Coffman

CPD Squad finished 8-12 on the regular season
The Columbus Police Bulldogs finished the regualr season at 8-12. After a 0-6 start the Bulldogs bounced back to compete in the division. The Bulldogs were led by heavy hitting from Adam Beine and Brian Keefe. Fantastic glovework by rookie sensation Mike Slivayna who is now the everyday lead off man. Bulldogs pitching staff was consistantly good all year but the Bulldogs offense was not good enough to put it together.
