After a tough road trip because of a wreck on I-75, the Pirates arrived in Atlanta at 5:30am.  They then took on the Tanios in a 10am game and lost a tough game by the score of 5-2 to open the Rosie Cup Tournament.  Justin Miller tossed a complete game for the Pirates.  He gave up seven hits and three earned runs.  Charlie Wrightsel was the only Pirate to have two hits.  The Pirates left the bases loaded to end the game against the Tanios.  The second game was a blowout as the Pirates got their wake up call in a 25-0 win over the Georgia Blue Jays.  The Pirates were benefited by numerous Blue Jay base on balls.  Bryce Bednarczyk had 5 RBI with two sacrifice flies and a three-run double. Chris Wilson had two hits includning a two-run double. Aaron Korbar had two doubles and 3 RBI.  Caleb Wright pick up the win throwing five innings and only allowing two hits.

SUNDAY

PIRATES 7  ATLANTA REDS 5
GEORGIA CHEROKEES 3  PIRATES 2  (Semi-Final)

The Pirates (18-5-2) needed a win in the third pool game and got it as they hung on to beat the Atlanta Reds by the score of 7-5.  Zach Botjer threw an excellent 8 1/3 innings to pick up the win.  The Pirates led 3-1 after eight innings when they added four runs on in the top of the ninth to make it 7-1, but the Atlanta Reds would not quit.  They scored 4 runs in the bottom of the frame and had the winning run at the plate with one out.  Eric Wrightsel then came on to put out the fire and pick up the save.  Botjer had 13 K's while giving up 5 hits.  The offense was led by Bednarczyk with three hits including a double.  Kerry Mock added a double.

The Pirates then took on the one of the top teams in the Southeast in the Georgia Cherokees in the semi-final game on Sunday night at North Cobb High School.  Wright took the ball and tossed a solid 4 1/3 innings keeping the Cherokees offense off balance.  He only gave up one earned run.  The Pirates then scored two runs in the top of the seventh to take a 2-1 lead, but the Cherokees #3 hole hitter smashed a two-run HR in the bottom of the eighth inning to give them the victory.  Ron Allen and Bednarczyk both had two hits in the semi-final game while Wilson added a double.

The Pirates played three good teams in the Rosie Cup Tournament and all three games went down to the last out.  Bryce Bednarczyk was the top offensive player going 7 for 14 in the tournament.
