colorado springs shockerz: ON THE ROAD:RALEIGH
Sunday, July 6GAME UPDATES
WE LOST GAME 1 -- 38-56
All of the girls played extrememly hard. The post players had a hard test with two of the big posts from the other team. We nicknamed one of them "The Tree Trunk" Big and unmovable. Bri, Tasha, Rachelle, and Andie battled well against her. It was hot and humid. Everyone got lots of game time. We subbed regularly. Rachelle did really well considering this was her first game with us. Viki and Tasha hit some key buckets to get some rallies going. Defense was normally pretty good. The girls reacted to a lot of situations and adapted well. Perla was a little ball thief at times. She kept their guards honest. Karly had a good game with a game high of 22. It was a total team effort. Wouldn't have done as well if it weren't for Kayla playing assistant-coach and talking with the girls when they came off. Other coaches were impressed with our girls. Over a dozen college coaches watched that game. Good showing for all of the girls. It was impressive that they battled on when the going got tough. No one gave up or hung their heads low at any time.
GAME 2: GAME OF THE NIGHT FOR OUR GIRLS WE LOST 55-59 (WHO CARES, IT WAS A GREAT GAME!!!!!!) vs the DURHAM BALLERZ
This was probably one of the best (if not the best) games that we have played to date. We scored early and often. Every girl scored and got some rebounds to boot. Bri had her most complete game of the season finishing with 11 points and 7 rebounds. The other team's coach said that she was the one player that they could not figure out how to contain. Tasha had the best game I have ever seen her have -- 4 out of 5--3 pointers and 2 2--pointers for a team high 16 points. The girl was on fire. Perla did her typical harrassment of the other team's guards and got some key steals and points. Rachelle is coming right along. She got some key points and rebounds as well. Very proud of her efforts and willingness to learn. Andie was scrappy and rebounded hard. She had several assists that were incredible passes. Karly and Viki were harrassed all night long. Apparently the other team's assistant coach watched our first game and figured they were the key to our game. So very wrong on his part. They were both unselfish with the ball and adapted well to the pressure (sometimes having 3 or 4 girls on them all of a sudden) and found the open girls. This was a great game to watch. We do have it on video thanks to Kayla's little brother, Jordan. We play again tomorrow evening at 5:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. I will post the updates then.
GAME 3 Lost this game against Exodus from New York. We were down 18-24 at half-time. This was a strong outside shooting team. Many shots from 3 feet or farther from behind the 3-point line. They had 3 monsterous post players. Not a bad game.
GAME 4 We played a great team from North Carolina tonight. They were probably among the best defensive teams that we have faced this summer. Bri went down with an ankle or lower leg injury in the first half. She has gone for x-rays. Hoping for the best. On the bright side, we have been invited to play in a grudge match tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. A grudge match is an extra game that has been asked for by the college scouts. This is done when there are players that they want to take another look at. Hope that game goes well. I will post tomorrow with an update on Bri and how the grudge match went.
