colorado springs shockerz: Coaches Corner
Monday, February 18ELITE COACH AND COACH IN CHARGE OF PLAYER DEVELOPMENT:
TONY LITTLE: Last year we were lucky enough to have Tony join the Shockerz as our Head Coach. His approach to how the game should be played and the roles of each individual on the team are second to none. Almost all of the girls from the 2007 Shockerz15/16U Team made their High School Varstiy teams this year with the majority of them earning starting roles. Only two of the girls were starting Varsity players for their school teams in the 2006-2007 high school season. Tony is looking forward to helping players from both teams develop and play at higher levels than they thought were possible during the 2008 campaign.
Tony is a native of Amityville, New York and is a Senior Noncommissioned Officer in the United States Air Force, with more than 22 years of service to his country as an Intelligence Specialist.
Tony has a well-rounded experience in coaching both basketball and soccer. He has coached basketball at the Air Force men's varsity and intramural, youth recreation, middle-school, high school and national club team levels for more than 16 years. Tony also earned numerous personal accolades in high school basketball (All-league, All-conference), soccer (All-league, All-conference, All-American), handball (All-League, All-Conference, All-State) and college soccer (Virginia All-State, All-American) and five-time All-Air Force Select Basketball Team member. Previously, he coached the freshman/sophomore boys basketball team at Doherty High School (1997-98), two 10-12 boys/girls basketball teams at the Pikes Peak Region's Tutt Boys and Girls Club (1999-2004), 8-9 boys/girls indoor soccer and basketball team at the Colorado Springs Downtown YMCA (2001-02). He also coached the 5th, 6th and 8th grade boys "Colorado Hawks" national club-level basketball teams in Denver (2004-06), competing at the Basketball Congress International (BCI), Mid-American Youth Basketball (MAYB) and Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Invitations Tournaments in Texas, Las Vegas, Florida, Kansas and Arizona.
Tony has been certified as a basketball coach through the MAYB, AAU, the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA), and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
