Spring Thaw Results

Spring Thaw Results:

What started as a very cold morning ended in a lot of Comet runs.  Unfortunately the tournament could not continue on Sunday.   It was nice to get a jump start on the 2008 season even though it was a cold day.   Results from Saturday's play:

Comets 7 -  Loveland Rage 18s  0

Comets  7 - Bandits 18s  0

Comets 12 - Wheat Ridge Storm 18s  0

 Great defense ladies !

Triple Crown Greeley Stampede Schedule

Triple Crown Greeley Stampede

Results:  Comets record 3-1-1   Runs scored 33  Allowed 16.

The Comets had a very good weekend for their first weekend of play in April.   Playing up in the 18U age group, the Comets got off to a great start finishing 2nd in pool play.   They were on a roll Sunday beating the Aztecs 9-1 and then cruising against the NC Xplosion to a 7-0 lead into the 4th inning.  Unfortunately the Comets put it on cruise control a little early and let the Xplosion up off of the mat losing an extra inning game 9-8.    Not bad ladies for what seemed to be our first tournament of the season.    Good luck this weekend in the Springs..

Comets win Pikes Peak Tourney

The Comets played great this weekend going 8-0 battling through the hurricane on Saturday and "prom lag" on Sunday.  They scored 67 runs and gave up 16 in the 8 games.  There were some tremendous plays during the tournament but I sure thought we would see the championship game double play that Taylor Cox turned with the runner at 3rd on Sportscenter this morning.  Wow !!!   Jess, way to turn up the heat late in the game as well.  You all did a tremendous job this weekend..    Good luck this coming weekend.

Comets win 16U ASA State Tourney going 5-0

Comets go 5-0 to take ASA State title.   The pressure was on to qualify for ASA Nationals and the Comets were on a mission to make that happen.  The Comets turned in an incredible team effort over the three days going 5 - 0 to take the Championship.   Meeting the Styxx in the finals of the winners bracket made for one of the most exciting games of the year.  The Styxx had a late 3-1 lead when Kalie Hernandez came through with a single to score two runs making the score 3-3.  In the last inning the Comets defense held the Styxx scoreless and then offensively managed to get runners to 2nd and 3rd with two outs in the bottom of the inning.  The Styxx loaded the bases walking Ashli Ortega to create a force at any base but Kelsey Tillery came through with a hit up to middle to score the winning run.   The finale was not much of a contest as the Styxx battled back to meet the Comets again in the finals.  The Comets run ruled the Styxx in the finale 10-3.

On a down note for the weekend, Taylor Cox was injured after being hit by a pitch on the elbow and we are uncertain of her injury.   Taylor, hang in there !!

Congratulations Comets and thanks for an EXCITING weekend of games.  Here we come ASA NATIONALS!!!

Comets finish 5-2 in Nashville

The Comets went on their first road trip of the '08 season and had an incredible time.  The Comets got a taste of the southern summer time heat as they went 5-2.  There were some great games played and one of the best was actually a loss in extra innings verses the TN FURY.   Good job ladies on your 5th place finish. This is the time of year we have to work hard for the upcoming run through the Indy Tournament.
