A Brief History of Collins Wrestling
Special thanks to Doc Pike and his book, "Home of the Champions: The History of Fort Collins High School from 1889-1989"
* 125 pounder, Floyd Holsinger traveled to Greeley for the first state wrestling championships in 1936 without a coach or a team. He won one match that fateful afternoon.
* FCHS has proudly fielded a team every year since the inaugural 1937-1938 season. That season, John Wagner (145) took second in the state. Other members of that team included, Charles Callopy who became a surgeon and later governor of Colorado, John Vanderhoof.
* 1944 saw the first two Lambkin State Champs, Bob Morris (112) and Harry Fabrizius (Heavyweight).
*Harry "Fuzzy" Fabrizius would go on to win a second state title. He is the only Lambkin to hold that distinction. His second win was described as "downright brutal."
* In 1946, J. Ray French took over as head coach when he returned from World War II service. They placed 2nd in conference in 1947 and took the conference in 1946, 1948 and 1949. Jim Escobedo won the 95 pound state title in 1949.
