North Gwinnett
Regular Season Champs
Collins Hill topped North Gwinnett Thursday evening 6-1 to win the Region 7-AAAAA regular season championship. The game, played at North Gwinnett in front of a large and noisy crowd, was rescheduled from two weeks ago and pitted the top two teams in the region against one another. Going into the game, each team had suffered only one loss in region play. Collins Hill took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning when Kara Pollock singled and then scored on an RBI double by Michelle Broderick. The duo partnered again in the 4th when Pollock singled for the second time and subsequently scored on a groundout by Broderick to give the Eagles a 2-0 advantage. Collins Hill put a little breathing room between themselves and the Bulldogs in the 5th inning when Ashley Austin and Jessica Martin led off the inning with base hits and later scored to make the score 4-0. The Eagles added a couple of insurance runs in the top of the 7th on a 2-run home run by Pollock who was 3-4 on the night. North Gwinnett mounted a brief rally in the bottom of the 7th by scoring a run and getting runners to 2nd and 3rd with no one out, but the Eagles defense tightened and kept any more runs from scoring. With the victory, Collins Hill finishes the regular season with a 9-1 record in the region and 18-9 overall. The region tournament begins next Tuesday at Collins Hill and will continue through the following week.
Congratulations Eagles!!
