End of Season for Eagles
Erins curve ball
Erin Collins throws a curve to strike out the side.

In game 1 of the Sectionals, the Collins Hill Eagles took on Woodstock. Some players have moved on, but others remembered the loss to Woodstock in last year's final state tournament game. Erin Collins orchestrated the shut-out with her fine pitching performance: striking out 10 and allowing 3 hits. Lindsay Ellenburg was the catalyst on offense, leading off with a double on the first pitch. Alexa Lewis' sac bunt moved her to third, and Catherine Palmer's sac fly scored the one and only run of the game. Ellenburg was hot, with 3 for 3 including 2 doubles. Lewis, Palmer, Caroline Cooper and Kathleen Pulliam all had hits.

In game 2, the Eagles took on the Region 8 champions, the Grayson Rams. The Rams are firing on all cylinders now, and did not miss a beat against Collins Hill as they took a 9-0 win. The Eagles left nine runners on base and couldn't get on the score board. Karlie Gillam was 2 for 3 with two singles. Ellenburg had a double, Palmer a single. Kim Mason started the game, and took the loss. Cat Tarvin and Lauren Reader came on in relief.

Game 3 at noon on Saturday found the Eagles up against Harrison. Harrison was knocked down by Mill Creek Friday night but survived a game with Roswell earlier in the day. This game was tight and would go 8 innings with the score 1 to 1. In the top of the eighth, the Eagles had the bases loaded, but could not coax a run home. Harrison was successful in the bottom of the inning, ending the Eagle season. Erin Collins pitched the entire game allowing just 4 hits and striking out 6. The Eagles had eight hits but stranded nine. Ellenburg was 2 for 3 including 2 doubles and a run scored. Palmer was 2 for 4, Cooper and Gillam each had a hit. Kellie Edmondson was 2 for 3 and a stolen base. With the loss, the Eagles were eliminated from the Sectionals with a record of 20-13-1.

Eagles Split Double Header in Region Tournament
The tournament moved out of the rain-soaked valley at Peachtree Ridge to North Gwinnett, where the visitors stare directly into the setting sun, until it drops below the horizon and presents at Maxfield Parrish western view. To the South is where 3 Eagles hit the long ball: Home runs for Kathleen Pulliam, in the 5th, Kellie Edmondson, in the 6th, and Catherine Palmer, in the sixth. The Eagles added two more in the seventh to take a 5-0 lead. The Bulldogs bit back with 3 runs but had run out of innings to try to do damage in. Kim Mason pitched through 7 innings to take the win, and Erin Collins came on, confident and cool, in relief. In addition to the home runs, Michelle Johnson was 1 for 3, Kathleen Pulliam was 2 for 3 including the HR and an RBI, Suzannah Kutney was 1 for 3, with an RBI. Great defense was fun to watch in this game. In the 4th, a grounder to Lindsay Ellenburg was thrown to Kutney at first, who threw to Karlie Gillam at third, for the double play. Fundamental, but beautiful to see in a game. In the 6th, a Bulldog made the mistake of hitting it down the third base line and out into foul territory, where Edmondson ran to catch it, and threw the rope to first to catch the runner off base.

Game 5 was a pitching match until the top of the seventh when Mill Creek put a couple of hits together and scored 3 times. The Eagles threatened but lost 3-0, to finish second in the Region 7 AAAAA Tournament. Catherine Palmer was 1 for 3, including a double. Caroline Cooper was 1 for 2, Kathleen Pulliam was 1 for 3. Catherine Tarvin took the loss, pitching 7 innings. Erin Collins came on in relief. This game showed fine defense, as well. A repeat of the 6-3-5 combo put two girls in the book, and a pop up caught by Kutney and flipped to Pulliam doubled a runner off first. The Eagles end with 19-11-1. Get the win at Sectionals! GO EAGLES!

Eagles Scoreless at Thursday's Game
The first five innings were scoreless. We watched some fine fielding by Karlie Gillam. It came her way often, and she all but jumped on top of the dugout to get them. Mill Creek is very fast on the bases, and pushed two runs across the plate in the sixth, and added 5 more in the seventh. Alexa Lewis and Caroline Cooper had hits for the Eagles. Kellie Edmondson had a stolen base. Erin Collins started the game and took the defeat. Kim Mason came on in relief. The Eagles play Tuesday against North Gwinnett, which defeated Peachtree Ridge earlier in the evening. Eagles are now 18-10-1.

Big Green Machine
Collins Hill took on the formidable North Gwinnett Bulldogs at the Level Creek Field this evening at 7. The Eagles lost a tough one to the Bulldogs a few weeks ago. That was then. This is NOW: The Eagles scored first in the top of the second, and the Bulldogs came back strong and took the lead 3 to 1. In the 3rd, things were quiet, but Collins Hill erupted in the fourth when they scored five times. In the sixth, they added two more and in the seventh, four more. The final score was Collins Hill 12, North Gwinnett 3. Lindsay Ellenburg had two doubles, two RBIs, and a run scored. Alexa Lewis had a double, Catherine Palmer had 2 singles and an RBI. Cooper had a hit. Gillam was 2 for 4 including a double. Catherine Tarvin had a single and a run scored. Michelle Johnson was 2 for 4, with 3 RBIs and a run scored. Kathleen Pulliam had two runs scored, and 2 RBIs. Suzannah Kutney had two doubles, 2 RBIs and a run scored. Nicole Heusel was 1 for 1, and 2 RBIs. Sammy Lenahan was 1 for 1 and a run scored. Danielle Almeida had 2 runs scored, Rachel Logan had 1 run scored. Randi Rea had a run scored. Tarvin had a great sliding catch in left field for the out. She started the game, and Erin Collins came on in relief, and picked up the win. The Eagles are 18-9-1.

Region Tournament Begins with a Win
cf Kim pitching
Kim Mason pitched the entire game in a 2-0 victory over Forsyth Central.
In the first game of the 7AAAAA Regionals, Collins Hill took on Forsyth Central at North Gwinnett High School. The Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first, on the triple of Lindsay Ellenburg and double by Catherine Palmer. Then in the fourth, they added another run on Kellie Edmondson's agressive base running, and Suzy Kutney's single. Defensively, there were some nice running catches by Edmondson and Kutney. A good Forsyth hit went over Kathleen Pulliam's head at second, but lots of quick backwards running put the out in her glove. Kimberly Mason had a fine afternoon on the mound allowing just one hit and striking out seven batters for the shut-out win. She also had a double play, catching a soft pop to the pitcher, and throwing to first. Ellenburg was 1 for 3 and a run scored. Alexa Lewis, Catherine Tarvin and Palmer were each 1 for 3. Palmer had the RBI in the first. Edmondson had the scored run, and Kutney was 1 for 2 with an RBI. Final score: 2-0. The Eagles are now 17-9-1 on the season.

Where in McDonough?
The Eagles traveled to Eagles Landing Christian Academy in McDonough to take on the Chargers. The home team hit a home run in the bottom of the first, but there would be no further scoring for either side. Cat Tarvin pitched the entire game, which was interrupted in the fourth by lightning. Except for that one swing, Tarvin kept the Chargers at bay. The Eagles end the regular season at 16-9-1 (7 and 1 in Region play).

It's a Great Day to be an Eagle!
The Eagles are on the road. Tonight they traveled down Old Peachtree to take on the Lady Lions. The Lions were undefeated in region play, but that stat changed tonight. The game was a pitcher's duel until the fourth, when Catherine Palmer smashed a towering line drive that hit the wall in right field for a double. Caroline Cooper sent 3 fielders scattering to field her power bunt, which scored Palmer. The Lions roared back with a run of their own in the bottom of the same inning. In the fifth, Catherine Tarvin took one for the team, Michelle Johnson sacrificed a bunt moving her to 2nd and then Tarvin took an opportunity to steal third. Lindsay Ellenburg came up and walked, (what else does a pitcher do with her!?) Alexa Lewis singled, and Cooper landed one through short. The Lions came back with two in the 6th, as the Eagles concentrated on getting the handy out. Final score: a hard fought 4-3. Kim Mason pitched a masterful game, taking the win allowing just 2 hits, and striking out 5. Erin Collins came on in relief in the 6th to squelch the rally the Lions were planning. The girls behind her helped her on two outs, and then she struck out the final batter to end the game in an Eagle win. Ellenburg was 1 for 3 with a run scored and a stolen base. Lewis was 2 for 4, RBI, and stolen base. Catherine Palmer was 2 for 4, including the monster double and a run scored. Cooper had a hit and 2 RBIs. Karlie Gillam singled, walked, and clobbered a shot that went off the tip of the running left fielder's glove. The Eagles are now 16-8-1, and 7-1 in Region play.

seniorstars
The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a half-way-to-Taylor-Road home-run hit by Kellie Edmondson. Suzannah Kutney and Leah Martin both hit doubles in the second to score another. In the 3rd, the Eagles tucked another one in the nest when Catherine Palmer hit a double. In the fourth, Erin Collins knocked Kutney in. In the sixth, the Eagles added 4 more runs, with the big hit being Lindsay Ellenburg's triple. Ellenburg had a triple, 2 RBIs and a run scored. Palmer was 2 for 4 including a double, stolen base and run scored. Caroline Cooper had a double, and Kathleen Pulliam had a run scored. Kimberly Mason had a nice sac bunt. Edmonson had the home run, and 2 RBIs. Kutney was 2 for 3, including a double, a stolen base and 3 runs scored. Leah Martin had a double. Collins was 2 for 3 and 2 RBIs. Collins twirled the shut-out, striking out 8 and giving up 3 hits. What A GREAT game to finish up the at-home play, and to celebrate Senior night. Thank you, parent volunteers and younger teammates, for sending the Seniors out with such a wonderful celebration!
The Eagles are now 15-8-1.

Collins Hill Travels to Evans, Georgia

Danielle Almeida scores.
On the road for the third game in a row, the Eages took on the Greenbrier Wolfpack. Lots of parents made the long trip east... and were rewarded with a first-to-home-to-third spectacular triple play that ended the winning JV game. The Varsity game did not end so well. The Eagles scored first when Lindsay Ellenburg reached on an error, and Alexa Lewis bunted to move her to second. Ellenburg sprinted to third on a wild pitch, and Caroline Cooper's single scored Ellenburg. The Wolfpack scored twice in the bottom of the inning and once in the second to take a 3-1 advantage. The Eagles came back in the top of the fifth when Danielle Almeida got a single, Ellenburg again raced to first on an error, and Alexa Lewis put the ball in play near first, scoring a run. Cat Tarvin hit one up the middle, scoring Ellenburg. All tied up now, until the bottom of the seventh, when a clean catch and accurate throw home by Karlie Gillam, plus a definitive catch by Cooper at the plate was called a run scored instead of a force out. Tarvin pitched the first 6 innings, striking out 4, and Erin Collins came in the last inning. Ellenburg scored two runs, Alexa Lewis had a hit, Tarvin was 2 for 4, Cooper was 2 for 4, with an RBI. Gillam had a hit and Almeida had a hit and scored a run. The Eagles are now 9-5-1.

Kathleen Pulliam, Catherine Palmer, and Suzy Kutney down and ready.
The best ticket in town Thursday night was the field at Level Creek and Suwanee Dam Roads. The win could have gone either way at any point in the final innings. Both pitchers kept the runners from the bases until the 6th inning, when Collins Hill scored twice. The Bulldogs answered back with a run, and another in the 7th, to send the nailbiter game to extra innings. Each team crossed the plate again in the 8th to send it to another tie-breaker inning. The Bulldogs pulled ahead in the 9th, winning it 4-3. Lindsay Ellenburg was 1 for 4 and scored two runs. Alexa Lewis was 2 for 4 with an RBI and stolen base. Catherine Tarvin had an RBI, Caroline Coooper had a single with an RBI. Catherine Palmer and Michelle Johnson each had a hit. Kathleen Puliiam was 2 for 4 and a run scored. Eagles Bring Down the Hawks
The Collins Hill Eagles hosted the Mill Creek Hawks on a damp Tuesday evening. This was a key match-up in region seven play. The Eagles sent a message early on as Caroline Cooper launched one over the right field fence, scoring Alexa Lewis ahead of her. The hard-working and fleet-footed catcher did not require a courtesy runner this time—circling the bases on her own. The score was 2 nothing and that is how the game ended, as Erin Collins pitched a great game, scattering 6 hits over seven innings. The Eagle defense was simply outstanding. Lindsay Ellenburg was 1 for 3 and Catherine Tarvin was 1 for 3, in addition to Cooper's homer. The Eagles are now 9-3-1.

Eagles Fly Back to Win Over the Broncos
Kellie Slides Home
Kellie Edmonson scores the first Eagle run of the game
The Collins Hill Eagles hosted the Broncos of Brookwood on this hot Monday evening. It was a pitcher's duel, between Kimberly Mason and #18 until the top of the third when Brookwood scored a run on a double after the lead off batter reached on a free pass. In the top of the 6th the Broncos added two more with a single and a home run. Down by 3, some may have thought the Eagles were looking at the first loss of the season. Not so. In the bottom of the sixth, the Eagles would cross the plate four times and send the Broncos home with a 4-3 loss. What a come from behind win! This was a character-builder. Never give up. Suzy Kutney started it off by reaching first before the throw. Kellie Edmondson came in to run. Lauren Reader moved Edmondson to second on a ground out to the short stop. Lindsay Ellenburg then out-raced the ball to first scoring Edmondson. Now 3-1, 1 out. Alexa Lewis moved both runners into scoring position with a ground out to first. Michelle Johnson also reached to first, scoring Ellenburg. Now 3-2, 2 outs. Cat Tarvin gets a single, now the runners are on the corners. She steals second. Caroline Cooper sends a ball to right field that gets lost in the sun, scoring Johnson and Tarvin. Now 4-3, 2 outs. Next up Karlie Gillam reaches to first and steals second. Catherine Palmer hits a rocket that the fielder just gets a glove on to end the inning. In the seventh, the Broncos made it interesting, but Gillam caught a line drive to end the game. Mason pitched a complete game allowing three runs on five hits, striking out six, and walking just one. The Eagles are 2 and 0.

Eagles Beat Harrison in Season Opener
Karlie Gilliam hit against Harrison
Karlie Gillam's hit
Collins Hill won their home opener 1-0 in a tussle with the Harrison Hoyas. The visitors left 8 runners on base... plenty of chances to turn this into a nail-biter, but pitcher Erin Collins kept them off balance with her movement on the ball. Also, the Eagle defense was there to make sure the runs did not come in; they covered the territory very well. Caroline Cooper was two for three. Danielle Almeida, running for Caroline, put the score on the board. Karlie Gillam had two singles, one an RBI. Cat Tarvin showed her speed, with a double. Alexa Lewis made a fine running catch and caught a couple more at center. Suzannah Kutney, at first, caught a line shot to take the hit away. Next game is August 20th at home, against Brookwood.
