Saturday, February 10 Eagle Alumni in the News From the Gwinnett Daily Post Published: 02/10/07 By Will Hammock Sports Editor Morrison Gets Schools Weekly Award Collins Hill grad Kevin Morrison, a freshman outfielder on North Georgias baseball team, was selected as his schools athlete of the week for Jan. 29 to Feb. 4. Morrison was 6-for-13 in a weekend series vs. Barton College with five runs scored and four RBIs. He had two doubles, a triple and his first college home run in addition to drawing three walks. He currently leads the team in batting average (.462), slugging percentage (1.077) and on-base percentage (.563). Tuesday, February 27 Baseball Preview From the Gwinnett Daily Post Published: 02/27/07 REGION 7-AAAAA Collins Hill Head coach: Paul Pierce 2006 record: 27-8 Returning starters: SS/P Justice French, DH/2B Stephen Hanley, 3B Jason Slade, OF/P Daniel Warzon, C Michael Young Outlook: The defending Region 7-AAAAA champs lost a great pitcher in UGA signee Justin Earls, but they return two of the top players in the county in French (5-1, 3.16 ERA; .311 avg., 2 HR, 22 RBIs) and Warzon (2-2, 2.06 ERA; .396 avg., 8 HR, 31 RBIs). Hanley, Slade and Young help give the Eagles a solid core of veterans, who should make life a little easier for Pierce until his inexperienced players get their feet wet in varsity action. We are excited about the opportunities and look forward to the challenges of the 2007 season, Pierce said. Tuesday, February 27 Super Six Baseball From the Gwinnett Daily Post Published: 02/27/07 The Gwinnett Daily Post's preseason selections of the county's best baseball players included two CHHS Eagles: Justice French School: Collins Hill Class: Senior Noteworthy: Mercer commit was 5-1 on the mound with a 3.16 ERA; At the plate, hit .311 with 2 HR and 22 RBIs. Daniel Warzon School: Collins Hill Class: Senior Noteworthy: Hit .396 with 8 HRs and 31 RBIs in 2006; As a reliever, had a 2-2 record and racked up 22 Ks in 23 2/3 innings pitched. Saturday, March 3 Collins Hill's French shuts down Marist in 11-0 win From the Gwinnett Daily Post Published: 03/03/07 ATLANTA - Justice French went five innings, gave up no runs and two hits and struck out eight to help Collins Hill defeat Marist 11-0 and win its first game of the season. Stephen Hanley went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run while Jason Slade was 2-for-3 with a run. Michael Adams was 1-for-2 with three runs and an RBI while Curtis Guest went 1-for-3 with three RBIs for Collins Hill. Sunday, March 4 Eagles Down Blessed Trinity From the Gwinnett Daily Post Published: 03/04/07 ![]() ROSWELL - Daniel Warzon was 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs to help Collins Hill defeat Blessed Trinity 9-3 on Saturday. Stephen Hanley was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run while Tommy Yeo went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs for the Eagles. Nick Squeglia pitched two innings and struck out one while Curtis Guest pitched three innings also striking out one. Collins Hill is now 2-0. Thursday, March 8 Eagles Top Hardaway in 9 Innings!! From the Gwinnett Daily Post Published: 03/08/07 BARNESVILLE - Michael Adams drove in the game-winning run, scoring Tommy Yeo, to give Collins Hill a 9-8 victory over Hardaway on Wednesday. Adams was 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and Stephen Hanley was 3-for-5 with two RBIs for the No. 3 ranked Eagles, who remained undefeated. Nick Squeglia got the win in relief for Collins Hill (3-0). A bright spot for the Bulldogs was another stellar performance from freshman Justin Earls who tossed a career-high five scoreless innings. On the year, he has not allowed a run in 11 innings covering a span of four appearances. After the game, Georgia coach David Perno indicated Earls would move in to the rotation. We battled back to tie it and we were hoping to get another scoreless inning out of Joshua (Fields) but bottom line we put ourselves in a difficult position with our starting pitching, said Perno. Weve found a guy in (Justin) Earls. He can solidify that third spot in our rotation. Earls is scheduled to start on the mound this Sunday for the Bulldogs against Gardner-Webb. Sunday, March 11 Reserved Seats are "Opened" for the Home Opener ![]() ![]() Due to the ongoing success of the Eagles Baseball program and the continuing support of our Sponsors, Dugout Club members, and other program supporters, the facilities at "The Hill" continue to get better and better. Opening Day 2007 marked the grand opening of thirty-nine reserved seats directly behind home plate. Each seat is reserved for the entire season and bears the name of the company or individual who has licensed the seat. Thanks to Coach Pierce for leading the effort to continually improve our facilities and, in particular, for being the driving force behind our new reserved seating area. Tuesday, March 13 2007 Eagles Baseball (Memory) Program The annual Eagles Baseball Program provides a great keepsake of the players' and diamond girls' baseball experience. You can enhance the program and memories of the season in several ways. - Booster Messages a brief message of best wishes that will be listed in a special section of the program. This is a great way for friends and family to support their favorite player. - Booster Ads Place a message along with a candid or posed picture. You can include co-players, friends, family, etc. - Community Sponsor Ads Commercial ads from the local business community advertising their establishment. Each business will also have their organization listed on the team website. Deadline for all submissions is March 23rd. Thursday, March 15 Warzon leads Eagles to win over South From the Gwinnett Daily Post Published: 03/15/07 ![]() Collins Hill's Daniel Warzon (2-0) registered the win, giving up two hits and striking out three in three innings of work as the Eagles beat South Gwinnett 12-2 in five innings on Wednesday. Warzon was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, a triple and four RBIs. Michael Adams was 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored. Michael Young went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs while Justice French was 2-for-3 with two runs for Collins Hill (5-1). Saturday, March 17 Collins Hill Gets Win Over Camden County From the Gwinnett Daily Post Published: 03/17/07 KINGSLAND - Justice French had 10 strikeouts and was 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Collins Hill to a 4-3 win over Camden County on Friday. French went seven innings on the mound, allowing four hits and three runs (none of them earned) to improve to 3-0. French also had the game-winning RBI for the Eagles (6-1). Michael Young was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Thursday, March 22 Collins Hill downs Brookwood 5-1 From the Gwinnett Daily Post Published: 03/22/07 SNELLVILLE - Daniel Warzon (2-0) registered the win for Collins Hill after pitching six innings, giving up three hits, one earned run and striking out one to help the Eagles top Brookwood 5-1 on Wednesday. Justice French went 2-for-2 with two doubles, one RBI and a run scored while Jason Slade was 2-for-2 with a double and two runs for the Eagles. Tommy Yeo pitched the seventh inning, striking out one for Collins Hill (8-2). Saturday, March 24 Eagles Win Region Opener From the Gwinnett Daily Post Published: 03/24/07 Collins Hill began play in Region-7AAAAA with a scoring bang, beating Peachtree Ridge 13-3 on Friday. Justice French got the win, pitching five innings and going 2-for-3 with two doubles at the plate. Stephen Hanley knocked in two runs with two hits for the Eagles (9-2, 1-0). Tuesday, March 27 Collins Hill wins barnburner with Duluth From the Gwinnett Daily Post Published: 03/27/07 Justice French went 3-for-5 with three RBIs helping Collins Hill edge Duluth 11-10 Monday. Michael Young had four doubles for the Eagles (10-2, 2-0). Stephen Hanley and Brent McDonald added three hits and Jason Slade along with Tommy Yeo both chipped in with two-run home runs. Nick Squeglia earned his second win of the year, yielding no earned runs in four innings pitched. Anthony McCrary had three hits for the Wildcats and Jared Van Camp along with Caleb Samples both added two hits for Duluth. From the Gwinnett Daily Post Published 04/17/07 SUWANEE Nick Squeglia registered the win after giving up three hits, one unearned run and striking out four to help Collins Hill beat Duluth 14-1 in five innings on Monday. Curtis Guest was 2-for-3 with a home run and six RBIs, Stephen Hanley was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and three runs and Daniel Warzon was 2-for-4 with a home run and three runs for the Eagles. Collins Hill improves to 12-8 overall and 4-6 in region. Thursday, April 19 Collins Hill wins tough region game on the road at Mill Creek!! From The Gwinnett Daily Post Published: 04/19/07 Collins Hill 3, Mill Creek 1 Justice French gave up just six hits in a complete game win over Mill Creek on Wednesday. French (5-2) struck out four in the 3-1 win. Curtis Guest did most of the offensive damage, going 2-for-3 with a two-run homer. Michael Young went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Tommy Yeo went 2-for-2 with a double for Collins Hill (13-8, 5-6 7-AAAAA). Thursday, May 3 Eagles Close the 2007 Season with a Win at Norcross! From the Heart and the Post: Published 05/03/07 NORCROSS The Norcross Blue Devils wont be playing at home when the Class AAAAA baseball tournament begins May 10. Collins Hill, ending a disappointing season with a good victory, saw to that Wednesday night. The Eagles scored four runs in the first inning and held on to edge Norcross 5-4, spoiling senior festivities for the Blue Devils. Norcross (17-9) scored twice in the seventh inning against Collins Hill and had the tying run on base. Senior right-hander Justice French wouldnt relinquish the lead, though. French proved just a little too tough and made the pitches when he had to in the complete game. The Mercer signee struck out six and walked four, throwing 113 pitches in his final high school game. My changeup was good, but all three of my pitches were working, said French, who finished the season 6-2. Collins Hill won Region 7-AAAAA last year and was ranked No. 4 going into the season in the GaSports.com coaches poll. But the Eagles needed the victory over Norcross to finish 8-8 in the region and 16-10 overall. Second baseman Stephen Hanley was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. First baseman Tommy Yeo had two singles and a RBI. Our season should have been so much more, French said of missing the playoffs. We all know that. But at least we went out with a win. From our heart, we wish the Seniors of the 2007 Collins Hill Baseball Team the best of luck with their future ventures. We thank you for all the wonderful memories you have left for us, and we will never forget you. Your hard work and dedication to our program has made "The Hill" a better place forever!!! Good Luck!! Monday, May 14 Rider, French lead 7-AAAAA honors From the Gwinnett Daily Post Published: 05/11/2007 North Gwinnett's Mitch Rider and Collins Hill's Justice French received the top individual honors on the All-Region 7-AAAAA baseball team, which was voted on by the region's coaches. Rider was named All-Region the player of the year and French was the pitcher of the year. North head coach Frank Vashaw was selected as coach of the year. Wednesday, May 23 Gwinnett County Dugout Club honors this years best in high school baseball. From the Gwinnett Daily Post Published: 05/22/2007 Brookwoods Elliot Coor and North Gwinnetts Mitch Rider took the top honors on Monday as the Gwinnett County Dugout Club honored this years best in high school baseball. Coor was selected as Pitcher of the Year and Rider was named Player of the Year. North Gwinnett was picked as Team of the Year while its coach, Frank Vashaw, shared John B. Sawyer Coach of the Year honors with Brookwood coach Rick Howard. Mill Creeks coaches got the Staff of the Year award. The club inducted five new members into its Hall of Fame, including current pro players Jeff Francoeur, Brian McCann and Clint Sammons. Coaches Glenn George and Keith OCarroll also were selected for the Hall of Fame. Vashaw also was honored for earning his 300th career victory, while two other coaches Providence Christians Adam Cantrell and Parkviews Chan Brown received honors for topping the 100-win mark.
