Collins Hill
Head coach: Paul Pierce
2006 record: 27-8
Returning starters: SS/P Justice French, DH/2B Stephen Hanley, 3B Jason Slade, OF/P Daniel Warzon,
C Michael Young
Outlook: The defending Region 7-AAAAA champs lost a great pitcher in UGA signee Justin Earls, but they return two of the top players in the county in French (5-1, 3.16 ERA; .311 avg., 2 HR, 22 RBIs) and Warzon (2-2, 2.06 ERA; .396 avg., 8 HR, 31 RBIs). Hanley, Slade and Young help give the Eagles a solid core of veterans, who should make life a little easier for Pierce until his inexperienced players get their feet wet in varsity action. “We are excited about the opportunities and look forward to the challenges of the 2007 season,” Pierce said.

... A bright spot for the Bulldogs was another stellar performance from freshman Justin Earls who tossed a career-high five scoreless innings. On the year, he has not allowed a run in 11 innings covering a span of four appearances. After the game, Georgia coach David Perno indicated Earls would move in to the rotation.

“We battled back to tie it and we were hoping to get another scoreless inning out of Joshua (Fields) but bottom line we put ourselves in a difficult position with our starting pitching,” said Perno. “We’ve found a guy in (Justin) Earls. He can solidify that third spot in our rotation.

Earls is scheduled to start on the mound this Sunday for the Bulldogs against Gardner-Webb.

Eagles Close the 2007 Season with a Win at Norcross!
From the Heart and the Post:
Published 05/03/07

NORCROSS — The Norcross Blue Devils won’t be playing at home when the Class AAAAA baseball tournament begins May 10.
Collins Hill, ending a disappointing season with a good victory, saw to that Wednesday night.
The Eagles scored four runs in the first inning and held on to edge Norcross 5-4, spoiling senior festivities for the Blue Devils.

Norcross (17-9) scored twice in the seventh inning against Collins Hill and had the tying run on base. Senior right-hander Justice French wouldn’t relinquish the lead, though.

French proved just a little too tough and made the pitches when he had to in the complete game. The Mercer signee struck out six and walked four, throwing 113 pitches in his final high school game.

“My changeup was good, but all three of my pitches were working,” said French, who finished the season 6-2.
Collins Hill won Region 7-AAAAA last year and was ranked No. 4 going into the season in the GaSports.com coaches’ poll.
But the Eagles needed the victory over Norcross to finish 8-8 in the region and 16-10 overall.

Second baseman Stephen Hanley was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. First baseman Tommy Yeo had two singles and a RBI.

“Our season should have been so much more,” French said of missing the playoffs. “We all know that. But at least we went out with a win.”

From our heart, we wish the Seniors of the 2007 Collins Hill Baseball Team the best of luck with their future ventures. We thank you for all the wonderful memories you have left for us, and we will never forget you. Your hard work and dedication to our program has made "The Hill" a better place forever!!!

Good Luck!!
