Night Practice Concerns
Please know that your Tsunami staff is as concerned as you are regarding the safety of the swimmers at the evening make-up practices. We have discussed the concerns with the Parks Staff including the Aquatics Supervisor. The first thing that we are trying to get is an extra lane, so that we have 6 lanes instead of 5. However, we have more swimmers than any other summer consistently coming to our night practice. We are averaging 52 swimmers at that practice. We have asked for a practice hour at night that would give us 8 lanes, but the expense and staffing issues that come with that have to be approved by many channels.
Remember that all of our coaching and stroke work is done at the morning practices where the coaches have specific practice plans that are geared to the swimmer's development and improvement. The night practices are strictly a make-up practice for those swimmers who have summer school, a day camp, or can't arrange any transportation to the morning practices. Please understand that there is very little coaching that can go on at the night practices and the coach assigned to that practice is in a supervisory role to facilitate the swimmers into lanes and assign workouts.
