Fallon Center for Youth Sports: Testimonials
COLLEGE COACHES:
"Jeff Fallon and his group run a first class operation that benefits the well-being of the student-athlete. He has been very helpful identifying the student-athlete that would be a solid fit for our university and program. We continue to evaluate the Pilots and their players annually due to our trust in Jeff Fallon's approach to the game."
Coach Thomas Myers UC-Santa Barbara NCAA Division I, Recruiting Coordinator ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Jeff Fallon has done a great job in developing contacts with his player's for our program. As a top 20 program at the Division II Level, we were always looking for kids to come in and contribute early. Jeff and his staff get these kids prepared mentally and physically and ready for the college game. Also, academics is something he takes great pride in with his player's as well. Now coaching at the NCAA Division I level, we know Jeff will be honest and open about the ablilities of each individual kid. We look forward to a long and great relationship with the Pilots program for year's to come." Scott Norwood Head Baseball Coach University of Arkansas-Little Rock (AR) Sun Belt Conference -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PARENTS: "Prior to finding Jeff and FCYS, we had engaged another national service to help us find a college that was interested in our son, Conner. While we have received benefit from this other service, we found even greater success with Jeff and FCYS. He helped us change our focus to our son-what HE wanted and what was realistically within reach given his skill level-and we started exploring options using this lens. By focusing on our son first, I am confident that we will find a spot for Conner that maximizes his potential while also providing an environment that will be a positive influence on his personal growth. We can’t thank Jeff enough for helping personally guide us through this process."
Baseball ... STUDENT WILL ATTEND HARVARD UNIVERSITY
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"My son and I were talking the other day and he told me that you were the one coach most responsible for giving him the confidence he now has as a pitcher and player. I want to thank you so much for for treating him with so much respect, and for believing in him. The two summers he spent playing for the Pilots, as well as the Junior Olympics experience, were a lot of fun and something he will never forget! Jason has grown a lot, matured, and developed his skills in baseball and you are the coach that he has valued most. We cannot thank you enough!"
Baseball ... STUDENT ATTENDING PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY
"With Jeff’s guidance and support, we were able to find a college for our son that enabled him to pursue his dream of playing college sports, while also enjoying his surrounding and his academics. We received a tremendous amount of helpful advice that enabled us to locate a school that was the right fit for our son, and that also provided us with financial incentives. Jeff spent a considerable amount of time with my husband, Josh and I and actually started meeting with us when our son was a sophomore in high school. This early interaction got us on the right track and made our search more effective and focused. Now, Josh is a sophomore in college and doing really well. He would not have had these opportunities if not for Jeff’s advice and counsel and we appreciate everything that he has done for our son."
Football ... STUDENT ATTENDING UNIVERSITY OF REDLANDS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
" ... Our son has never played first before, all other coaches thought he was too small and needed longer legs. He has said many times how grateful he is that you gave him a try at something so many said he could never do well at. There are many people who can coach well but so few that are great coaches. You, my friend, are great."
Baseball ... CURRENT PILOTS PLAYER
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I cannot tell you how much we appreciate your guidance and support. Last night it really hit Shea hard knowing his senior year is over for the most part. I believe this situation will make Shea even more passionate for his College career, most importantly academics but his love for soccer."

"Dear Jeff, I wanted to let you know that Cody will be going to UC Boulder on an academic scholarship this year. We really appreciate you and your staff for the years you've invested in both Chip and Cody. I believe we made the best choice for our kids by having them play with you even if baseball is not the vehicle they used to get into college. The integrity and strength of character in you and the men you surround yourself with is unmatched and my kids are better people because they've been around you all. Thank you for everything!"
-Marc and Denise Snyder
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
" I wanted to thank you for everything you've done to help me out. The past summer I progressed and learned the game like I never have before. I would also like to say thank you for all the help with college. I had no idea where I was going until you guided me in the right direction."
-Ben Dorman, Paradise Valley College
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Jeff:
It's hard to imagine that it has been 15 months since we started working with you in September 2006. Since that time, you have opened so many doors for Conner and provided us with valuable assistance and insights-through the Pilots program, the Junior and Senior Fall Classics, visits to the Pacific Northwest, guidance on colleges that would fit Conner both academically and athletically, countless phone calls with coaches, the Vegas opportunity, and much more. I know that I have told you thank you before, but the words, even a card, just didn't seem to fully express how appreciative we all are for the support you provided to Conner-not only as a coach, but as a mentor and friend, as well. By now, you will have figured out why I asked you what your 20 favorite colleges were from a personal perspective; you will see the names reflected in the quilt that I have made for you. I wanted to capture something that would be as meaningful to you as your guidance and assistance have been to us. I will admit, you threw me a curve ball (that's what you get when you are dealing with a pitcher's mom) when you added the 21st college to your list-but hopefully you will appreciate the combination of Southern Vermont College and Drake, your and Natasha's colleges, into one square to accomodate the 20 square structure! Thank you again for everything that you have done for Conner-he would not be attending Harvard next year but for his association with you and the Arizona Pilots.
Happy New Year-
Gary, Terri and Conner

The visit last week to NMSU went wonderfully. I was able to tour the facilities and accomplish everything I sent out to accomplish. I felt the university was a great fit for me and I could see myself playing in the aggie program. So, after consulting with my parents and a lot of thought. I committed to sign with NMSU last Friday! I will be receiving the papers to sign next week and I am very excited. So, I would just like to thank you for all of your help the past four years but especially all the help the last two months. I am in this position thanks to all your help and I greatly appreciate it! Thanks again!
Max

We want to wish you a very prosperous 2008When we started our company in 1996, Koty, my oldest son had just been born. We had hoped that our center would provide a positive sports environment for him to be around. I am a firm believer that a big part of who you are is who you surround yourself with and choose to keep my kids around good people and sports. I have to say, it has been really neat watching all of my boys grow in this environment. They have had the opportunity to “hang out” with and learn from some really good role models like Jeff Larish, Eric Sogard, Ernie Bracamonte, Matt Michael, Doug Mathis, Bryan Zumbro and Anthony Hatch, among literally hundreds of others. 97% percent of the people involved in our program have had the opportunity to play their sport in college or beyond. It has been better than I have ever dreamed and look forward to the next 12 years. It’s hard to imagine that in another 12 years, Hunter, our youngest will have graduated from high school. We have entered a new chapter in our history and it’s quite exciting now that our kids are old enough to actually experience playing!January Note from JeffGOALS: As we develop our goals for 2008, remember to establish realistic short term goals. Parents be sure to help your kids follow through with these short term goals because as they see results, they will be more likely to continue to establish and reach additional goals. We all enjoy success and short term goals are much easier to keep and obtain. FUTURE: I don’t think it is wise to force our kids to have to succumb to the pressure of having their life mapped out. Many parents feel their kids need to be locked into a major before entering college. I disagree and believe you should be open to new experiences and unexpected opportunities. When I entered college, I did not even know the career I now have realized could have possibly existed. If we become rigid in our planning we leave ourselves open for disappointment. Take the time to discover your passion and go for it! MY ROLE: I will give good direction and counsel in college recruiting and youth sports, it’s what I do and what I have a passion for. I can offer good insights as well, but cannot give you direction from what’s inside of you. You must hear what your inner voice telling you what your passion is and what you want. It’s inside all of us and it should be a long term goal to discover. BE CAREFUL: Investigate those who labor among us … there are many schemers and deceivers out there that may sound good but are not grounded in faith! They see an opportunity and have a way with words. These people are very dangerous because they do not have the true good will of the family and the student at hand. They have their own self directed motives and it is very scary. You (as a student) only get one chance to make the right decision. You will not ever be 12, 15 or 18 again. It’s imperative that you surround yourself with the best possible people who you trust. Some philosophies (or coaching) will draw you away from your faith (or goals). This means you MUST be strong and courageous. DON’T BE MISLEAD |

DOUG MATHIS IS FIRST PILOT TO REACH BIG LEAGUES, EARNS WIN IN MAJOR LEAGUE DEBUT
Just as I started to ask who you thought might be the first Pilot to reach the Big Leagues, Doug Mathis came forward and earned the victory in the Rangers 10th inning win against the Mariners!
MLB.com says ...The happiest guy in the Rangers celebration may have been rookie right-hander Doug Mathis, who picked up his first victory in his Major League debut. Mathis took over in the 10th after Joaquin Benoit and Wilson had combined to allow six runs in the eighth and ninth innings to erase the Rangers 10-6 and 12-8 leads.
Mathis settled things down, though, by retiring three straight hitters and was rewarded when Vazquez hit his home run.
"This is the coolest thing I've ever experienced," Mathis said.
CONGRATULATIONS TO DOUG ... AND HIS PROUD PARENTS TRACY AND JAN WHO WERE THERE WATCHING EVERY SECOND OF IT. IF YOU WONDER WHY WE HAVE NO PICTURES OF THE ACTUAL EVENT .. ITS BECAUSE TRACY (DAD) .. WAS TOO EXCITED AND FORGOT .. Congrats to all of you
WHAT A MOTHERS DAY GIFT ...
SUNDAY MAY 11, 2008 (Mothers Day)
ARLINGTON -- The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Doug Mathis from Triple-A Oklahoma. Mathis will be available in the bullpen for today's series finale with Oakland, seeking to make his Major League debut. The club has placed right-handed pitcher Kevin Millwood on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right groin.
Mathis, 24, has spent the entire season with Oklahoma, going 5-0 with a 3.55 ERA (18 ER/45 2/3 IP) in seven games/starts for the RedHawks. He has held Pacific Coast League opponents to a .253 (43-170) average with 10 walks and 30 strikeouts. Mathis has four quality starts at Triple-A, where he won each of his first four starts to begin the season. He last pitched on Tuesday vs. Sacramento, earning the win (eight IP, eight H, three R, two ER, 0 BB, six SO, 115 pitches/76 strikes).
Mathis was a late addition to the club's Major League Spring Training roster in March, posting no record with a 4.15 ERA (two ER/4 1/3 IP) in 5 relief appearances in the Cactus League. The club's 13th round selection in the 2005 June Draft out of the University of Missouri, Mathis is in his fourth professional season. Prior to this season, he had just three games and two starts above the Double-A level.

Interesting Comparisions.............
As former Pilot pitcher Kyle Conroy sprinted off the pitcher's mound yesterday at Phoenix Municipal Stadium, the 300 or so Notre Dame Prep fans on hand all rose to their feet to give Conroy a rousing standing ovation. The fans had just witnessed Conroy's last pitch as a high school pitcher - a pop up to right field.
The ovation was not just for Conroy's gutsy effort against Mingus, 6.67 innings pitched, 5 hits 11 strikeouts (8 different players), had kept the Saints close all afternoon. The applause was for 3 years of watching Kyle Conroy be the go-to guy for Coach Gaetano Gianni and Notre Dame's quest for its first State Championship.
As a Sophomore, in 2006, Conroy got the start in the semi-final game against Arcadia. Conroy held the Titans to a 3-3 tie before leaving the game in the 5th inning.
In 2007, Gianni once again turned to Conroy to lead the Saints in the semi-final game. Again, Conroy kept the Saints in the game until Mike Greco and another one of his monster home runs, won the game in the late innings.
After three starts, Conroy officially is 0-1 in Semi-final and Final state playoff games, but for three years he was one of the guys who kept the Saints alive in these games. As Kyle packs his bags and prepares to play for the UNLV Runnin' Rebels next year, he leaves Notre Dame Prep with the following School Records:
Career
Innings Pitched 168
K’s 181
W’s 21
SHO’s 6
CG’s 8
Single Season
K’s 85 2008
CG 4 2007
SHO 3 2007/2008
ERA 0.96 2008
In the 2008 season Conroy was 8-1 with and ERA of 0.96. He averaged 10.2 K’s per game while setting the school record for strikeouts with 85. He averaged 104 pitches per game and had a S/B ratio of 1.83. Among his wins in 2008 was the 8-3 victory over the State 4AI Champion, Chaparral Firebirds.
All season long, Coconino’s Kyle Lobstein has been recognized as the "top left handed pitcher in the state” and is projected as a 2nd round pick in the June 4th MLB Draft. Conroy and Lobstein had two common opponents during the season and head to head against the same lineups here were the results:
Prescott High School
ERA IP BF R H 2B 3B HR BB K HB GS W L
Lobstein 1.909 3.2 20 8 8 1 1 0 0 8 X X
Conroy 0 6 29 3 7 0 0 0 2 6 1 X
Lobstein was chased out of this game in the 3rd inning – Conroy took at 3-0 shutout thru 6 complete – The save was blown by the relief pitcher and Conroy got a no-decision
Cottonwood Mingus
ERA IP BF R H 2B 3B HR BB K HB GS W L
Lobstein Game 2 2.8 5 27 7 5 2 1 4 8 X X
Game 1 2.471 5.2 25 6 8 2 1 2 8 X X
Conroy 3.15 6.67 30 4 5 2 4 11 X X
In Lobstein’s win over Mingus, the score was 18-10 and he received run support from his offense. In Conroy’s loss his offense produced only 5 hits and none were for extra bases. He faced all but two batters in the game and struck out 8 different players in the lineup.
The point with this comparison is to show that if Kyle Lobstein is “the best left handed pitcher in the state” then what is Kyle Conroy – His stats against the identical opponents are at least as good as Lobstein. Lobstein throws 90+ and Conroy throws around 87mph. The difference is movement on the off-speed pitches which the batters and (apparently) the scouts don’t see.
Kyle Conroy’s high school career ends without a state championship, however he leaves Notre Dame Prep knowing that his efforts on the hill were a big part of the reason the young school has built a reputation as one of the best 4A Programs in the State of Arizona – Tribune player of the Year in 2008? Maybe – Certainly pitcher of the year....

As I flip through the channels of CBS-College Sports and watch game after game, it gives me great pleasure to see former Pilots on TV. Two of Kyle's best friends and Pilot teammates were on TV last week as Pepperdine faced San Diego. Jason Butler (Desert Mountain) and Torrey Jacoby (Notre Dame) wore the Pepperdine uniforms as Ryan Davis (Chaparral) wore the uniform of the Torreos of San Diego. Watching the Army-Navy game and seeing Mike Greco or the Baylor game and watching Landis Ware.
The next question I have (and I will turn it into a poll) ... who will be the next Pilot player to make it to the major leagues. Right now Doug Mathis, Jeff Larish and Joe Mather are all knocking at the door, while Eric Sogard is playing well in Double A. Look at our Pilots Poll question and log in.
Regardless, as I sit back an reflect, once again the common ingredient these players share with Kyle is the inner drive and passion for the game. They all just love to play the game and I believe that is a major reason why they are still playing. Not luck or politics, just a true passion for the game that kept them working day in and day out to get there. GOOD LUCK KYLE and I can't wait to see you on TV
