Fallon Center for Youth Sports: NTIS Mountain West/Team Arizona

2010 National Team Identification Process to Begin
Koty_Justin

Arizona Baseball Players,

We will begin organizing the 2010 NTIS Season in the next couple of weeks.  I have already scheduled certain events to continue updating our evaluations and seeing new players.

In addition to our local events, we will be conducting at least two regional events and building upon our ranking system.   The ranking system would begin with a Elite 48 Player List in each of the graduating classes in Arizona.  This list would then be followed by a regional ranking, (Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah), after the first regional event, to be followed again by an updated list after the regional NTIS in Salt Lake next summer.

 Elite 48 Player List:

The idea behind a Elite 48 Players List is to allow us to first keep better track of the top players in the region.  The exposure and opportunities which always follows from being included on such a list is tremendous.

We understand players develop and progress at different rates. The overall future potential of the player is given the most weight, and not necessarily the best player now.  More importantly players were who have tested their skills regionally and nationally, in addition to local play with us, were also given more weight.

Players can be recommended by anyone for consideration by sending an email to jeff@fallonsports.com .

Regional Event #1 Spring Training Showcase:  Presidents Day Weekend Feb 13 - 15

Spring Training is a regional event we have conducted in Mesquite Nevada for more than two decades.  Some of you have already been involved with this in the past.  For the rest of you, this is your invitation to join us.   For the last several years we have averaged 500 players, but have had up to 735.  We employ about fifteen 4-corner professional scouts and several college coaches.  This has been the Mountain West regions signature event for several years and we believe it to be the perfect way to continue the NTIS season and provide our coaches and area scouts the first look at all the Top players in the region together.  This will give the decision makers a great start on identifying players.

Regional Event # 2 NTIS Regional

There will not be a lot of change to the NTIS Regional from last year.  This year we will see 36 teams in each division.

The date on this is still TBD because of all the other highly competitive events going on at the end of each summer.

Spring Training Showcase

A USA Baseball / MountainWest Stars

National Team Identification Series Event

Presidents Day Weekend Feb 13, 14, & 15

Spring Training in Mesquite Nevada is one of the most popular baseball events in the West, hosting over 700 players from six different states. Instructors from Utah, Nevada, Arizona, California, and New Mexico are on hand each year. In additional to the Major League Scouting Bureau and the USA Baseball staff, over forty college coaches and professional scouts will be on-hand to get a look at one of the largest High School talent showcases in the country. The enormous popularity of this event has the Academy turning away almost 200 players each year. The program is designed to reacquaint our players to the great outdoors a couple weeks before the baseball season starts. This not only gives them a head start, but also gives our instructors a chance to teach them parts of the game they would not be able to teach indoors. In addition, our High School participants will get a tremendous amount of exposure in front of many College Recruiters and Pro-Scouts.

Where do we stay?

Oasis and Virgin River Casinos.

What is the Cost?

The basic enrollment fee is $265 if you sign up before Jan 15th and $315 if you sign up after the 15th, NO Exceptions.  This fee includes lunches for the players on Saturday and Sunday, and a Spring Training T-shirt you may keep as a souvenir.

Inaugural NTIS concludes in Cary
------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------
CARY, N.C. -- USA Baseball wrapped up its inaugural three-day National Team Identification Series (NTIS) on Sunday at the National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. The series concluded with a total of 60 games played, featuring about 650 players from three different age groups (13U, 15U, 17U) and 42 states across the country.

Dave Webb, head coach of the 2009 14U National Team -- one of the teams into which the NTIS will feed -- said that the debut of the NTIS was a successful one.

"We were staffed extremely well with great coaches and support from USA Baseball," Webb said. "The entire series went extremely well without any snags."

Using the NTIS as the identification vehicle, USA Baseball will name a minimum of eight players to the 2010 Tournament of Stars (18U); a minimum of eight players to the 2010 16U National Trials Team; a minimum of 24 players to the 2009 14U National Trials Team and a minimum of 24 players to the 2010 14U National Trials Team.

Webb said that having the nation's premier youth baseball talent from across United States come together in Cary was a unique opportunity which greatly improved the selection process for USA Baseball National Teams.

"The ability for us to see the best players in the country in one spot at the same time was great for us," Webb said. "The NTIS gives us a significant advantage from selection models in the past because coaches are able to come together and evaluate talent in one comprehensive event instead of holding multiple events around the country."

Announcements of the National Trials Teams and Tournament of Stars selections will be made on a special selection show to premier on USABaseball.com on Friday, Sept. 25. The show is the first of its kind for USA Baseball.
