Baseball Bat Regulation Changes
Calvin Batting

Beginning in 2009, Little League Baseball has adopted the rule that non-wood bats used in ANY of the sixty-foot diamond baseball divisions must be printed with a BPF (Bat Performance Factor) of 1.15 or less.  When this rule takes effect in April, 2009, ANY bat without the marking, or one with a BPF marking greater than 1.15, WILL be removed from the game.  Also, as another reminder, at any time, the barrel of a bat used in any sixty-foot diamond program cannot exceed 2 1/4 inches in diameter.  Also, beginning with the 2009 Little League Baseball season, baseball bats with a diameter of 2 3/4 inches are no longer permitted for use in the Junior League Division.  Baseball bats with a 2 5/8-inch diameter are now the standard for all teenage baseball divisions (Junior, Senior and Big League).  The "minus-3" requirement - overall weight (in ounces) of a bat can be no more than three ounces below the overall length (in inches) of the bat (for example, a thirty-three inch bat cannot weight less than thirty ounces) - remains in effect in Senior and Big League Baseball divisions, but is NOT a requirement in Junior Baseball.

These changes apply only to bats used in the baseball programs.  Softball bat requirements remain unchanged for the 2009 season.

Altered Batting Helmets May Not Be Used
Little League has passed the following rule regarding batting helmets:
Rule 1.16 and 1.17 (Baseball and Softball)
Warning!
Manufacturers have advised that altering helmets in any way can be dangerous.  Altering the helmet in any form, including painting or adding decals (by anyone other than the manufacturer or authorized dealer) may void the helmet warranty. Helmets may not be re-painted and may not contain tape, or re-applied decals, unless approved in writing by the helmet manufacturer or authorized dealer.
This rule will be strictly enforced by all league umpires. Any player wearing an unapproved, altered helmet will not be permitted to step into the batter's box.

Little League Challenger Program
Challenger2007
Once again, Coles is sponsoring a CHALLENGER PROGRAM team for handicapped youngsters.  This Little League chartered "no fee" program provides the Little League Baseball experience to those who are not physically able to participate in the regular program.  The players, their buddies, and all of the volunteers who have participated in the past have had a great time.  If you have a youngster, ages five through high-school, who would be interested in playing, or if you can volunteer some of your time to these ballplayers, please contact Don or Josie VanWingerden at vanwingfamily@verizon.net.

The Challenger Team participated in the 3rd Annual Challenger Jamboree in Virginia Beach the weekend of May 9th-11th.
