The Coles District Little League family were deeply saddened today to hear of the passing of Yvonne and Emily Selke. Emily worked in our snack bar for many years. Our thoughts are with the Selke family and all of the other victims of the tragic Germanwings 4U  9525 crash.

If your child is of league age 9-14 and NOT already a member of a Major League or Junior League Team, he or she MUST attend a try-out to be eligible for a competitive draft.  If your child is league age 9-11 and does NOT attend, he or she will not be eligible for a Major League Team. 10 and 11 year olds will be placed on a Minor League Team via a "hat pick" and 9 year olds will be placed in Coach Pitch.  All league age 7, 8 and 9 year olds (requesting to tryout for a minor league team) must attend tryouts to be considered for a minor league team.

During these noted times, the league will be accepting walk-in registrations for youngsters in ALL divisions.  You also can still register online by clicking here, or by mail/walk in (download the registration form by clicking here).

Please do everything that you can so that your ballplayer(s) can make the indoor tryouts.  If you absolutely, positively cannot attend the tryout sessions on one of those days, please contact one of the division vice-presidents.

Please see the Tryout Frequently Asked Questions Page for more information by clicking here.

TRYOUTS - Sunday 1st March

As you are probably aware we are going to be under a Winter Weather Advisory starting tomorrow at 7am, with snow possibly starting around then.

Tryouts are still on for now for the morning. We have to follow the Prince William County Public Schools Closing Announcements.

According to Little League rules, all players must attend 50% of the tryouts in order to be eligible for the draft. Having on two different weekends is designed to help parents that may be out of town one of these two weekends. If we only have one tryout, all players need to attend next Saturday. Please check our FB page or Website for updates in the morning before heading to tryouts.

Thank you, Coles Little League Board of Directors

2015 Little League Age - See Chart Below

FOR BASEBALL DIVISIONS ONLY

In April 2014, the International Congress approved the new league age determination amendment for Little League Baseball®. To implement the new amendment, it was decided to include a three-year waiting period to execute the change, starting in 2018. Questions from the field were raised about the impact the change would have on players that were currently league age 8 under the traditional system. Using feedback from Little League® parents through our District Administrators, the Little League International Board of Directors adjusted the April-approved implementation strategy in order to modify the impact on all of our minor and major division players. The adjustment also allows for an easier transition for players in the early years of Little League participation.

As a result of this recent adjustment to the implementation strategy, effective immediately, any player born on or after January 1, 2006 who will turn the ages of 4-9 during the 2015 calendar year will be eligible to participate in a local Little League program and will use the new age determination date of December 31 for the remainder of their Little League Baseball career. Players will still be assigned to a division based on local league divisional structure.

As stated, with this implementation strategy adjustment the impact on our players will be reduced, with the exception of a marginal impact on players currently participating in the very early stages of their Little League career. Furthermore, our continued focus on fun, fitness and fundamentals at the Tee Ball Division will assist local leagues as they look to provide a smooth transition to the Coach/Machine Pitch divisions of play while still developing a passion for the game as well as focusing on skill development.

Little League Challenger Program

image_name2

Once again, Coles is sponsoring a CHALLENGER PROGRAM team for handicapped youngsters.  This Little League chartered "no fee" program provides the Little League Baseball experience to those who are not physically able to participate in the regular program.  The players, their buddies, and all of the volunteers who have participated in the past have had a great time.  If you have a youngster, ages five through high-school, who would be interested in playing, or if you can volunteer some of your time to these ballplayers, please contact David McClure at David.S.McClure@nga.mil.

Rockies/Astros Claim Titles in Intermediate and AAA

The Fall Season came to a close this past weekend with the conclusion of the End of Season Double Elimination Tournaments in Intermediate (50/70) and AAA.

The Rockies captured the Intermediate Championship with an 8-7 win over the Braves in the Championship Game.

In AAA, The Astros fended off a comeback attempt by the Reds to win the final game 13-12 and claim the Championship of the Division.

Both the Rockies and the Astros completed the season with one loss each during both regular season and end of season tournaments combined.

Congratulations to all the kids that played in Coles Little League this Fall from Tee Ball up to Seniors.  We hope you enjoyed the season and look forward to seeing everyone in the Spring.
