Little League Logo
Coles Little League is in its twenty-eighth year of providing the Little League Baseball/Softball experience for the youngsters, aged five through eighteen, in the mid-Prince William County area.

In their 1st game, the JUNBB tournament team bested Gainesville by an 8-0 score. In their second game, the JUNBB squad defeated Lower Loudoun National 16-0. They then reached the division finals by besting Fairfax Dominion 16-6. Their next game will be in the JUNBB CHAMIONSHIP GAME at Gainesville's Long Park on Thursday, July 10th, 5:45PM, against Fairfax Dominion.

The Coles 9/10SB team toppled Gainesville in their first meeting by a 11-8 score. Gainesville then rebounded to post a 27-9 Game 2 victory. The District 9/10SB CHAMPIONSHIP GAME will be held on Wednesday, July 9th, 6PM, at Tyler Elemenatary.

The 11/12BB squad fell to SYA East 16-0 in their first game; but they rebounded in the second to overpower Gainesville National by a 12-2 score, and went on to eliminate Fairfax National by an 11-6 score Next, they slipped by Annandale National by a 3-2 score. After vanquishing Fairfax Dominion 3-1, they eventually fell to Annandale North Springfield American 8-5.

The 10/11BB squad took Gainesville American by a 10-5 score. In their next game, Chantilly National squeaked by Coles, 11-0; and their season was ended by Fairfax Dominion who prevailed in a 6-5 contest.

In their first game, Coles 9/10BB fell to Fairfax National by a 4-1 score. In their second, the 9/10BB squad beat Annandale North Springfield National 6-3. They next prevailed against Fairfax Dominion by a 5-2 score. The 9/10BB team then eliminated Chantilly National by a 5-3 mark. The 9/10BB team then got their payback against Fairfax National, the team that handed them their only loss, by bludgeoning them 12-1 and knocking them out of the tournament. Their march was cut short as Lower Loudoun National got by on a 1-0 score.<

Juniors and 9/10 Softball Squads in the Finals
FireWorks 3
Tuesday was not a good day for the locals, as the 10/11BB and 11/12BB teams were finally eliminated; and the 9/10SB girls were stretched to the IF game in their tournament with Gainesville. The 9/10BB squad had won four in a row before losing a 1-0 squeaker on Monday; the 11/12BB team put together a four game winning streak of their own, before falling on Tuesday; the 10/11BB team was on the wrong end of the score of their second game and then lost a one-run elimination game on Tuesday; while the JUNBB team already has advanced to the CHAMPIONSHIP GAME in their division.  The 9/10SB team toppled Gainesville in the first game of their best of three series, before Gainesville slipped past them in game #2.  However, Coles still can win their District Championship on Wednesday.  Updates are posted to the website as they are received.  Come on out, take pride in our league's performance, and cheer on the ballplayers!

Independent Hill Community Park Update
BullDozer

The most recent news that we've received is that the Prince William Board of Supervisors has added the $4.6M Helwig Park project into next year's budget.  Originally, the word was that the county would be offering the bond issue to pay for the project in December, 2008, which would have the park ready for use possibly in April, 2011, more likely April, 2012.  This week, we've received word that the bond issue may be accelerated to July, 2009.  If this occurs, occupancy in 2011 would be more of a reality.  The league's government liason has a meeting with the Park Authority next week, where we hope that these topics can be confirmed.  For now, the members of Coles Little League need to continue to band together as a community to let the supervisors know that they need to make this project happen, and happen soon.  Please take the time to send our Coles County Supervisor, Marty Nohe, an email (mnohe@pwcgov.org) - tell him our kids deserve new baseball and softball fields!  Tell him to start building our new Complex soon!!  To pass that same message onto the rest of the Board of County Supervisors you can access the BOCS email addresses at this web address: http://www.pwcgov.org/default.aspx?topic=010016000030000442, while the PAB contact information is located at: http://www.pwcparks.org/AboutUs/BoardMembers/tabid/104/Default.aspx.

Altered Batting Helmets May Not Be Used
Little League has passed the following rule regarding batting helmets:
Rule 1.16 and 1.17 (Baseball and Softball)
Warning!
Manufacturers have advised that altering helmets in any way can be dangerous.  Altering the helmet in any form, including painting or adding decals (by anyone other than the manufacturer or authorized dealer) may void the helmet warranty. Helmets may not be re-painted and may not contain tape, or re-applied decals, unless approved in writing by the helmet manufacturer or authorized dealer.
This rule will be strictly enforced by all league umpires. Anyone player wearing an unapproved, altered helmet will not be permitted to step in the batter's box.

Rules Regarding Legal Bats

Just an early warning note that, beginning in 2009, Little League Baseball will be adopting the rule that non-wood bats used in ANY of the sixty-foot diamond baseball divisions must be printed with a BPF (Bat Performance Factor) of 1.15 or less.  When this starts, any bat without the marking, or a BPF greater than 1.15, will be removed from the game.  Also, another reminder, at any time, the barrel of a bat used in any sixty-foot diamond program cannot exceed 2 1/4 inches in diameter.  The 2 3/4 inch barrel bats are reserved for use in the Junior Baseball ninety-foot diamond programs ONLY. The maximum bat diameter that can be used in the Senior Baseball program is 2 5/8 inches.
