Field Improvement Update

COLCHESTER YOUTH SOCCER PROGRAM
PARTNERS TO IMPROVE FIELD AT RECREATIONAL COMPLEX

On Wednesday September 2, 2009 Colchester Youth Soccer successfully completed the planned R7 field renovation project at the Colchester Recreation Complex. This project consisted of repairing, and reseeding worn playing areas, as well as increasing the width of the field by building up the far right corner. As a result, R7 will be a field that provides safe playing conditions for the Colchester Youth Soccer, Colchester Youth Lacrosse, and Colchester Men’s soccer teams / players. The R7 improvements will also provide CYS with an additional soccer field with appropriate dimensions for hosting state soccer tournaments.

Colchester Youth Soccer would like to thank Colchester Youth Lacrosse and Colchester Men’s Soccer for their partnership and financial commitment in support of this important initiative. CYS would also like to acknowledge First Selectman Linda Hodge, The Colchester Parks & Recreation Commission, Parks & Recreation Director Jason Cohen and his staff, as well as the many parents who actively support our soccer programs.

Many thanks to Chuck Stone (Stone & Garden) who provided the necessary labor to complete the project, as well as Rich Baldi (Baldi Sand & Gravel), and Charlie Mazzolla (Lesco, Inc.) who provided the required materials. Your continued partnership and support are very much appreciated. CYS will continue to pursue opportunities for additional field improvements in partnership with the Colchester Sport leagues, First Selectman, Parks & Recreation department, and P&R Commission members. The R7 field will continue to be rested and closed to the public through the Spring of 2010. At that time, the Parks & Recreation department will announce a specific date as to when the field will be open for public use.
