Colchester Youth Soccer Celebrates 2011 Awards
|
Colchester Youth Soccer held their annual 2011 Awards Banquet and had many accomplishments to celebrate. Two travel soccer teams, the U12 and U14 girls, were first place District winners this year. The MVP’s for this year’s Travel season were Courtney Downer and Matt Rumbel.
Two new areas celebrated this year were Outstanding Sportsmanship in the Recreation program and Outstanding Referee Awards to celebrate the new young referees that have been training to support the Recreation program. Recipients of the Sportsmanship awards were: Grade 1- Marissa Nudd and Mike Valardo; Grade 2- Aiden McLaughlin and Morgan Prates; Grades 3-4- Skylar Burzycki and Andrew Gatesman; Grades 5-7- Ileana Duddie and Daniel Berube; and Grades 8-12 – IJ Balaban and Erica Boucher.
The girl and boy recognized for Outstanding Referees were 6th grader, Hannah Borsari and 9th grader Ethan Reever who both displayed an amazing ability to handle themselves on the field with the players, as well as with the coaches and parents.
Norman Thoms was the 2011 Volunteer of the Year for Colchester Youth Soccer. He has put in countless hours helping the soccer program as well as creating and running a program to train future referees that are able to put their training into practice by refereeing the Colchester Rec soccer program.
Colchester Youth Soccer is a program run strictly by volunteers. Soccer in Colchester depends on these volunteers to make it happen. Please get involved. Meetings take place the third Tuesday of every month at 7:00PM in the Cragin Memorial Library.
