MATTOON - Six Lake Land softball players have been named All-American Scholar

Athletes by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

The NFCA, requiring a 3.5 or higher grade point average for the 2010-11 school year, recognized Mattoon's Michelle Glenn and Bailiegh Basham, Neoga's Olivia Mintun, Newton's Kimberlin Wallace, Effingham's Kristin Winkler and Moline's Kaitlyn Teager from the Lake Land team.

Lake Land, which won the Region 24 tournament to advance to last spring's Division I national tournament, was earlier recognized by the National Junior College Athletic Association as an Academic All-American team.

"Everybody talks about athletics but at Lake Land we cherish the academic awards as much as any individual or team awards because in the end that's what it's all about," Lake Land coach Nic Nelson said. "So yes, we are very proud of those kids."

Congrats Kristen
