Calvert County National Little League: Spring 2012 Divisions
Major Softball
Minor Softball
T-Ball
The Tee Ball program is for players 4-6 years old who want to learn the fundamentals of hitting and fielding. In Tee Ball, players hit a ball off a batting tee. Rules of the game may be varied to accommodate the need for teaching. The primary goals of Tee Ball are to have fun, to instruct children in the fundamentals of baseball and softball and to allow them to experience the value of teamwork
Junior League Baseball
The Junior Division is for 13 and 14 year old. The competition and level of play in this division is similar to that of the Major League Division, but the playing rules change considerably. Juniors play on regulation 90 base paths, and the pitching distance is extended to 60' 6". Additionally, base runners are allowed to lead off at each base, requiring pitchers to learn how to pitch from the "stretch" position to hold runners close. All players are required to tryout.
Pitching Machine
The Machine Pitch program gives kids between the ages of 7 and 8 year olds their first chance to hit off of "live" pitching. The pitches are delivered from a pitching machine that throws the ball fairly straight and consistently into the strike zone. This allows children to develop the confidence to stand in the batters box and take good swings without the fear of being hit by a wild pitch.
Game scores and official scorebook are kept. The focus of the league is truly developmental and instructional. Players are selected onto teams usually based on a skill level where the teams are ensured to be even.
Minor League Baseball
The Minor League program is a competitive league that is open to youth between the ages of nine and eleven years old. The goal of the Minor Leagues is to prepare children for the teventual selection to a Major Division team. The kids are challenged, but not overmatched.
Players are selected via a draft. At the beginning of each year, drafts are held again.
Major League Baseball
The Majors Division is for kids between the ages of 11 and 12. Game scores and official scorebook are kept and standings are maintained. Players are selected onto teams via tryouts.
