CNBLL 9/10 Fast Pitch Tournament Team Wins First Game at States

Rumford - The Cranston National Budlong Little League 9/10 Fast Pitch Tournament Team won their first game at the RI State Championships, 5-3, on Saturday. The girls played a defensive gem in securing the win. Christina Forlini turned a double play at shortstop subbing for an injured Kim Plumley, who broke her wrist sliding into second on a steal (and she was safe!). Bridget McDonough made a nice catch in left field, and Jenna Palmer pitched a great six innings for the win. Jen Iozzi made some great catches at second base, catcher Lexi Rodi threw out 2 runners on the bases, and Molly Botts ended the game scooping up a ground ball and tagging the runner for the final out.

CNBLL came out scoring in the bottom of the first. With 2 outs, Jen Iozzi walked and scored on a Lexi Rodi single. CNBLL struck again in the 3rd scoring 4 runs. Jen Iozzi walked again and got to 2nd on a passed ball. Lexi Rodi hit another single, and Iozzi went to 3rd. Lexi Rodi stole 2nd. Jen Iozzi then scored on a Christina Forlini base hit, with Lexi Rodi going to 3rd. Christina Forlini stole 2b. With 2 outs and CNB trying to scratch out another run, Lexi Rodi waited for the catcher to throw the ball back to the pitcher, then took off for home. On a close play, she was safe. CNBLL then scored 2 more runs on 3 consecutive walks.

CNBLL Night at the Blue Moon Pub

As I said on Opening Day, it was my goal to organize a social event for the parents in the league. It isn't often when we can get together without games or practices and be able to talk as well as eat and drink something besides concession food and Gatorade (not that there is anything wrong with that). In doing so, we can also raise a small amount of money for the league and patronize one of our league's sponsors.

On Sat., June 13th, I would like to have a CNBLL Evening at the Blue Moon Pub on 42 Phenix Ave in Cranston. It will begin at 7:00pm and will include a buffet. With each ticket purchased, you will receive a drink coupon good for a beer, wine or soda. There will also be karaoke during the evening.

Tickets are $14 per person. To purchase a ticket, please see me or Chris in the concession stand. Tickets will also be available at the door (but please send me an email if you plan on attending so I can have a count).

I hope to see many of you there. Any questions, please feel free to shoot me an email.

Thanks!

Don

Opening Day - April 25, 2009

Good Afternoon, Cranston National Budlong Little League will be having their opening day next Saturday, April 25th, 2009.

As we have done in previous years, this will start with a parade of players leaving Rite Aid (formerly Brooks) on Pontiac Ave. at 8:30am. We ask that all players be at Rite Aid by 8:10am so we can get the teams organized for their march down to the field.

Upon arrival at the field, we will introduce each team name as they walk onto the field. The opening day ceremony will start at 9am and should be completed by 9:30 am. Once complete, we have a schedule of games to be played thoughout the day. Also, individual and team pictures will be taken. I have made an effort to reduce waiting times as much as possible. This will require teams to be on-time for their slotted picture time. I have posted the game and picture schedules below.

Tim Horton's will be at the field again this year to serve coffee throughout the morning. The concession stand and grill will be open as well. Lets hope we have weather like we did last year. If you have any questions, feel free to let me know.
