On Sunday January 15th, Dan Beisel, Abby Glassberg, Lori Hartle, Brian Hinz, Jerry Meyer, Carole Owen, Anneliese Thomson, Roy Troppman, and Colley Johnson Ward trekked to the Arundel Olympic Swim Center in Annapolis for the 4th Swim Series Meet of the season.
Colley Johnson Ward started things off by setting two new team records in the Women's 35-39 age group with new standards in the 200 breaststroke (3:12.53) and 100 butterfly (1:19.58). In addition, she broke one of the oldest records on the board. Lauren Parson's 400 IM record of 6:28.98 which was set at the February 2001 UMBC Winter Meet fell by the wayside as Ward finished with a 6:08.81.
On the men's side in the 55-59 age group,Dan Beisel broke his own 500 freestyle record of 6:45.32 set at the January 2009 Arundel Olympic Swim Series meet with a 6:30.91. He also broke his own 50 butterfly record of 32.00 which was set at the October 2009 Howard County YMCA Swim Series Meet with a 31.71.
In the 60-64 age group, Jerry Meyer broke his own 100 backstroke record of 1:20.83 which was set at the February 2009 Swim Series Meet at the Woods Community Center with a 1:19.69. He also set a new record in the 200 breaststroke with a 4:04.27.
In the 65-69 age group, Roy Troppman thrashed two of his own team records. He first set his sights on his own 50 freestyle record of 29.02 which was set at the October 2009 Howard County YMCA Swim Series Meet with a 27.73. He then targeted his 100 freestyle record of 1:04.56 set at the Howard County YMCA Swim Series just this past October with an eye-popping 1:02.02. Mission accomplished.
Finally the 400 Freestyle Relay team of Anneliese Thomson, Lori Hartle, Abby Glassberg, and Carole Owen set a new standard of 5:45.55. With this record, the 45+ Women have joined the 25+ Women in having a team record in every single official Short Course Yards relay.
Kudos to all!

Over on the men's side, Jerry Meyer broke his own 200 freestyle team record in the 60-64 age group of 3:09.05 which was set at the 2011 Colonies Zone Championship at George Mason University with a 3:02.88.
Finally, in the men's 70-74 age group, Paul Lovett set a new 50 backstroke record of 41.44.
Congratulations all!

The USMS Top Ten Times have been released for the 2010-2011 Short Course Yards season. We had two relay teams make the top ten. The Men's 35+ 800 Freestyle relay team of Dan Beisel, Philippe Homassel, Greg Morris, and Coach Ray finished 9th.
The Women's 45+ 400 Medley Relay of Carole Owen, Anneliese Thomson, Abby Glassberg, and Valerie Karam finished 8th.
Congratulations!
Tuesday, October 18
On Sunday October 16th, CMYM hosted the first Maryland Swim Series Meet at the Dancel Family YMCA in Ellicott City. Eighty-some Masters swimmers came to compete and have some fun swimming.
During the meet, we had some team records fall, as well as new team records set. In the men's 40-44 age group, Coach Choo broke Coach Ray's 100 butterfly record of 1:03.28 which was set at the 2007 Colonies Zone Championships at George Mason University with a 59.07.
Moving up to the 45-49 age group, Hal Sachs broke Ed O'Malley's 200 Freestyle record of 2:17.84 which was set in the December 2008 Swim Series meet at the Catonsville YMCA with a 2:15.13. He also broke Richard Mathews' 100 breaststroke record of 1:23.54 set at the 2005 Maryland Swim Series Finale meet at the Arundel Olympic Swim Center with a 1:19.12.
In the 60-64 age group, Jerry Meyer broke his own 50 breaststroke record of 47.20 set at the Maryland Swim Series Championship earlier this year in March at Loyola University with a 45.68.
In the 65-69 age group, Roy Troppman proved that a heart condition is no match for his desire to swim faster. Not only did he break his own team record of 1:05.09 which was set at the October 2009 swim series meet, but he did it in style. In 2009, Roy was 65 years old. That record makes him the only CMYM swimmer to "swim his age." His record breaking performance of 1:04.56 at the age of 67 makes him the only CMYM swimmer to swim faster than his age!
In the 70-74 age group, Paul Lovett and Robert Alston also showed a little bit of panache as they set on the task of beginning to fill out the team record board. In the 50 Freestyle, Paul set a new team rcord of 40.61. Two heats later, Robert broke that record with a 31.81. In the 100 Freestyle, Paul set a new team record with a 1:28.55. Robert stepped in the next heat, and broke that record with a 1:16.42. Nicely played, gentlemen.
There was also some team record breaking and setting action in relays as well.
The 35+ Mixed 200 Medley Relay team of Coach Ray, Colley Johnson Ward, Raquel Formica, and Hal Sachs broke the team record of 2:16.94 held by the team of Mark Cronin, Coach Mike, Raquel Fromica, and Kathy Jantac set at the October 2010 Howard County YMCA Swim Series Meet with a 2:12.59.
The 35+ Mixed 200 Freestyle Relay team of Coach Choo, Coach Steve, Colley Johnson Ward, and Raquel Formica broke the team standard of 1:55.88 set by the team of Coach Mike, Madi West, Kim Morris, and Scott McPherson at the January 2006 Swim Series meet at the Arundel Olympic Swim Center with a 1:52.84.
The 45+ Women's 200 Medley Relay team of Carole Owen, Anneliese Thomson, Abby Glassberg, and Lori Hartle broke the team record of 3:00.21 set by the team of Julie Uhl, Anneliese Thomson, Abby Glassberg, and Carole Owen at the December 2008 Swim Series meet at the Catonsville YMCA with a 2:59.21.
The 45+ Women's 200 Freestyle Relay team of Lori Hartle, Valerie Karam, Carole Owen, and Abby Glassberg broke the team record of 2:33.21 set by the team of Gloria Serrao, Abby Glassberg, Carole Owen, and Anneliese Thomson at the October 2009 Swim Series Meet at the Howard County YMCA with a 2:32.14.
And for the first time in CMYM history, we now have records in the Men's 65+ Division. The team of Paul Lovett, Jeffrey Manchester, Robert Alston, and Roy Troppman set new team records in the 200 Medley Relay (2:21.71) and 200 Freestyle Relay (2:56.93).
Congratulations to all!
