Saturday, March 7 Welcome to the Catholic Metro Soccer League (CMSL) located in greater Atlanta. The CMSL consists of Atlanta Catholic schools in the elementary and secondary grades, and comprises St. Brigid, St. Jude the Apostle, Holy Spirit Prep, Christ The King, Queen of Angels, and Pinecrest Academy. "Sport must be accompanied by moderation and training in self-discipline. It very often also requires a good team spirit, a respectful attitude, appreciation of the qualities of others, honest sportsmanship and humility in recognizing one's own limitations," said the pope May 30 in his 2004 World Day of Tourism message. With this backdrop, we are strengthened and encouraged by Pope John Paul II to use sports as a means to developing the worthy characters of our children. "Virtue", says Augustine, "is a good habit consonant with our nature." Just as we need to practice soccer if it is to become more natural, and with it, more enjoyable, so too do we need to practice the virtues if they are to become second-nature, |
