November 23, 2008 - The Sam Robb Memorial Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament returns with more teams and locations

The 2nd Annual Sam Robb Memorial Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament is now accepting registration forms for middle school teams to pariticpate in a three day tournament December 27,28, and 29 at St. Jude Catholic School, Sandy Springs, Queen of Angels Catholic School, with all finals played at Blessed Trinity Catholic High School in Roswell. The tournament is for 5th through 8th grade boys and girls teams.

Sam Robb, a rising athlete at Blessed Trinity High School, was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at the age of 15. After countless rounds of chemotherapy and surgeries Sam’s cancer was in remission. However, due to the illness Sam would be unable to play the sports he loved. Sam did not give up his dreams of being an athlete and changed his focus to other sports that could accommodate his new physical limitations. Sadly, on June 25, 2007 Sam Robb lost his life to an unexpected relapse of the cancer. This tournament is a tribute to Sam and his perseverance to be an athlete no matter the obstacles. All proceeds from the tournament will benefit Cure Childhood Cancer, an organization dedicated to finding a cure for childhood cancers.

The registration form is available via this link or via the The Sam Robb Fund website. Act now as the tournament registration is filling up quickly. The registration deadline is December 7, 2008. Questions regarding the tournament can be emailed to Mike Cerone at ceronemike@aol.com or Annamarie Robb at hoopsinfo@samrobb.com.

November 4, 2008 - Message from CMLA Commissioner

To the CMLA Players, Parents, Coaches and Volunteers:

On behalf of all the ADs and Basketball Directors of our fourteen member organization, I wish to welcome you to the 2008-2009 season for the Catholic Metro League of Atlanta (CMLA). I am pleased that you have chosen to participate in our league and am looking forward to another fun and exciting season.

The CMLA strives to offer an environment where children of all skill levels can compete and proper sportsmanship is developed, on and off the court. I ask that all parents and coaches remember that the league is about the players and help us emphasize the idea of fair play by continuing to be positive role models and maintaining the values of The Catholic Church.

I hope that everyone has an enjoyable season and look forward to seeing some of you throughout the year.

Thank you for being a part of our league.
