Milan, Ohio - The Clyde Fliers came from an early 1-0 deficit to win their historic first Sandusky Bay Conference game over Edison High School by an 8-3 score. With the win, the Fliers improve to 1-2 (1-1 SBC).

Several team and invidual records were set in the contest. All-time records were set for most goals scored in a single game for the entire team (8), most goals scored by an individual player in a single game (Brian Shafer-3) and most assists in a single game (Zach Wott-3). Adding to the monumentous evening, Wott, Zack Ellenberger and Ethan Binger each recorded their first career varsity goals (each had previously scored scrimmage and/or club goals).

Six different players scored with Jake Rader and Caleb Cleveland each getting a goal as well. Besides Wott's record setting assist performance, Shafer and Nick Roope each contributed 2 assists with Aaron Warner and Lucas Cooley each assisting once.

"Edison tried to work an off-sides trap against us", Coach Tackett said. "I thought our guys worked real well at beating that and finishing their scoring opportunities".

Clyde, Ohio - For the second time this week, the Fliers have played to a 1-1 tie with their opponent. This time the St. Joseph Central Catholic Streaks came to town and escaped with the tie. The Fliers are now 2-4-2 on the season.

It looked real good for Clyde early as Aaron Marshall scored his second goal of the season less than 3 minutes into the game on a nice assist from Teddy Mason. The Fliers would never find the back of the net again with SJCC knotting the score with 3:58 left in the half. That would be all the scoring in the game.

Fliers Pick up Win #3
KDavis06
Kyle Davis Started Things Off with His First Goal of the Season
Clyde, Ohio - It took an extra day and included a 30 minute lightning delay, but the Fliers picked up their third win of the season by defeating Edison High School 6-1 on the rare Wednesday night game. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday night, but a scarcity of officials caused the game to be postponed. The lightning strike came early in the second half with the Fliers leading 5-1.

Sophomore Kyle Davis got his first goal of the season on a long shot that sailed into the far side of the net. The goal in the 16th minute of the contest gave the Fliers a 1-0 lead that they would never give up. About 5 minutes later, Brian Shafer picked up his first of 3 goals for the evening. Jake Rader assisted on Shafer's first 2 goals, with the final goal unassisted.

Teddy Mason also picked up his first goal on a pass from Ethan Binger early in the second half. Mason's goal gave the Fliers a 4-0 lead. After Edison answered with their only goal of the game, Caleb Cleveland got his second goal of the season with 27 minutes left in the contest.

Coach Tackett subbed freely after that with a total of 24 different player seeing time in the second half.

Jake Rader had 5 defensive steals in the game. Tommy Stein played in goal and recorded 5 saves on 6 Charger shots.

Alex Binger Comes Off the Bench for Two Goals Against Port Clinton
Port Clinton, Ohio - The heavily favored Redskins had to keep their first team in the game until the final 6 minutes of their Parent's Night game under the lights of Port Clinton's stadium. The Fliers played one of the best contests of the season in a hard fought 4-2 loss.

Alex Binger came off the bench to knot the score at 1 each 13 minutes into the second half. Port Clinton would regain the lead for good 5 minutes later but could not put Clyde away until their fourth goal with just 6:10 left in the contest. Binger scored his second of the game with 32 ticks on the game clock. Teddy Mason and Brian Shafer assisted on Binger's first goal with Zach Wott and Caleb Cleveland assisting on the second.

Binger had two other golden opportunities including one in the last minute of the first half but could not find the back of the net either time. Shafer also missed the net on a breakaway in the second half. Tommy Stein played well in goal for the Fliers recording 5 saves.

Coach Tackett was thrilled with his team's performance. "These kids don't realize how great they just played", he said after the game.

Tommy Stein Stops 7 of 10 Tiger Shots
Clyde, Ohio - After a 7-1 loss to the Tigers on September 7, the Fliers made significant improvements in a 3-0 loss on Parent's Night in Clyde.

Tommy Stein played well in goal recording 7 saves on 10 Huron shots. Playing without defensemen John Clevinger and David Gower who were both out of game due to illness, the remaining defense played exceptionally well breaking up play after play by the Tigers.

Jake Rader recorded 6 steals with Lucas Cooley adding 4 and Caleb Cleveland 3.

The Fliers had several quality scoring chances forcing Tiger goalie, Parker Muntz to make 5 saves. Six other Clyde shots missed the net.

The Junior Fliers were also shut out but Brandy Neustal's performance in goal kept the score close.

Jake Rader Leads the Team in Steals
Castalia, Ohio - The Fliers broke a 1-1 halftime tie against Margaretta and a strong wind to pick up a 3-1 win, their fourth of the season. With the win the Fliers improve to 4-8-2 overall and 3-7-1 in the Sandusky Bay Conference.

Caleb Cleveland picked up the first goal of the contest at the 32:41 mark of the first half with Zach Wott and Brian Shafer assisting. Things were going the Flier's way until the Polar Bears knotted the score off a deep throw-in with less than 10 minutes left in the half.

Alex Binger got the eventual game winner on a beautifully developed play set up by Cleveland and Aaron Marshall with 22:02 left in the game. The Flier played ball control soccer from that point on until Aaron Marshall went coast to coast with at least three Bears on him to get an insurance goal with just 37 ticks left on the game clock.

Tommy Stein played an exceptional game in net for the Fliers picking up 6 saves. None was bigger than one in the final minute of the first half, preserving the halftime tie.

"Jake Rader was all over the field", Coach Tackett said. He picked up 5 steals and was instrumental in moving the ball into the Margaretta half of the field over and over.

Defense Stellar as Fliers Tie SBC Champs!
Scoreboard
The Scoreboard Says It All as Fliers Tie SBC Champs!
Clyde, Ohio - The Clyde Flier defenders, midfielders and Keeper, Tommy Stein frustrated the SBC Champs, Perkins, all afternoon in a scoreless tie on a cold, windy day at Clyde High School. Several snow squalls helped make the game one to remember.

The Fliers used a stiff wind at their backs in the first half to play the visiting Pirates even for the first 45 minutes. The Pirates, unbeaten in their 11 conference games played with more urgency and the wind advantage in the second half, but the Fliers maintained the goose egg on the visiting side of the scoreboard.

The game is arguably the biggest game in Clyde Soccer history since winning their opening game of last year's inaugural season.

Stein recorded 10 saves in the first shutout of the season. Jake Rader recorded 14 steals with Brian Shafer and Caleb Cleveland adding 6 each.

The Fliers take their 4-8-3 overall record to Toledo Central Catholic on October 24 for the Division 2 Sectional Tournament vs. the winner of the Maumee/Lake game.

Tuesday, October 24
Fliers Fall to Top Seeded Maumee
Toledo, Ohio - The Fliers were the last SBC team to fall from tournament play as they dropped a 7-1 loss to the top seeded Maumee Panthers. Clyde played a tough defensive game in the first half with Maumee struggling to take a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.

Maumee woke up in the second half scoring four unanswered goals before Brian Shafer finally got the Fliers on the scoreboard off an assist from Aaron Marshall. Two late Maumee goals completed the scoring.

Tommy Stein played outstanding in goal recording 18 saves.

Coach Tackett used an "All-Senior" lineup for the last 15 minutes of the game to honor the group of 12 young men who will be credited with getting the Flier soccer program off the ground.
