Clover Hill jumped out to a 14-0 lead and rolled past New Market, 17-6, on Buck Fever Night Saturday at Buck Bowman Park.
The Bucks got two home runs and five RBIs from Dustin Bowman and a grand slam and six RBIs from Christian Simmers as part of their 12-hit onslaught.
Bowman's first home run of the night came during the five-run first inning against Shockers' starter John Bayse. Addison Bowman added a RBI double and Aaron Lough chipped in a run-scoring single in the first.
The Bucks then hammered Bayse and reliever J.D. Veney for nine runs in the second. That total included the grand slam by Simmers, a two-run shot from Dustin Bowman and a RBI double from Addison Bowman.
Bucks starter James Lucas allowed just one run in three innings, on a solo shot from Zach Leake to lead off the third, before being relieved by Logan Arey.
Arey yielded two runs in the fifth, and reliever Tim Meredith surrendered a three-run shot to Jeremy Hafer in the seventh.
A two-run single for Simmers during the Bucks' three-run third inning helped push their total to 17, with the game being halted after the seventh frame due to the league's 10-run slaughter rule.
Dustin Bowman finished 2-for-3 with the two home runs and five RBIs. Simmers was 2-for4 with the grand slam and six RBIs. Addison Bowman and Aaron Martin both went 3-for-3.
The Bucks finished the regular season with a 24-4 record and sit in first place. Stuarts Draft (23-4) trails by half a game and can force a one-game playoff for the pennant with a win at New Market Wednesday. The pennant-playoff would be played Thursday at Buck Bowman Park, with Clover Hill hosting because it took the season series (three games to one) against Draft this summer.
