Canes stellar pitching continues, as Rader 2 hits Cylcones

The Canes continued to get solid pitching from unlikely places.  Todays game at Bob Moore against the Cyclones featured Jake Squillance of the Cyclones against the Canes Scott Rader.  This would be Raders 1st start of the year.

The Canes would draw 1st blood early in the 1st.  Roberts would start the rally with a single and move to 2nd on a groundout.  With 2 outs, O'Brien would double to score Roberts.  Laurin would then follow with a single to plate O'Brien.  Rader would take the mound and get 2 groundouts and a K to make it a quick 1st inning.

The Canes would go quietly in the 2nd and 3rd as Squillance retired the next 6 in order.  In the bottom of the 3rd, the Cyclones would threaten.  Meyers would work a 1 out walk, then after a fielders choice Squillance would single to put runners at 1st and 3rd.  Rader would hit Curcio to load the bases, but with 2 outs would get Appell to fly out to center field to end the threat.

The Canes would strike again in the 4th.  Rader would lead off with a single and would move to 3rd on a Babie double.  Eric Solomon would single to plate the 2 runners and give the Canes a 4-0 lead.

Rader would continue to keep the Cylcones off balance, getting ground ball after ground ball and only allow 3 runners the rest of the way.  The Canes however, struck again in the 6th and 7th.  O'Brien led off the 6th with another double and would later score on a Eric Solomon fielders choice.  With a 5-0 lead, the Canes would add a little Insurance (insert corny LeMorta plug here).  Panza would lead off with a single, followed by a Roberts walk.  Both runners would move up on a passed ball.  Panza would then score on a passed ball to make it 6-0.  Roberts would later score when O'Brien struck out.  On a dropped 3rd strike the catcher would throw out O'Brien at 1st, allowing Roberts to score on the throw.

The game would end with Rader throwing the complete game, allowing only 2 hits, while striking out 5.
