Canes Finish 3rd Sweep in 2 Days

Tuesday July 28th, 2009: Scotia, NY Bob Moore Stadium

Game 1:

The Canes would do battle in a Tuesday night double header at Bob Moore against the Capital Mets. The Canes sent Jason Cornell to the hill to battle Manilinko. The Canes would load the bases in the 1st when Hoffman and Novak would hit back to back single and LeMorta would get hit by a pitch. Manilinko would settle in and get the next hitter to retire the side giving up no runs. The Mets would get in the board first when Brian Jette and Erik Miller would have back to back single and Jette would then score on a Matt Young sac fly. The Canes would get a run back in the 2nd when Laurin would single and Panza would drive him in. Cornell would settle in and keep the Mets hitters off balance all night. The Canes would score again in the 4th when Cornell would walk and Yager and Tom O’brien would have back to back single. Hoffman and Novak would drive in 2 more runs to give the Canes a 4-1 lead. The Mets bats wouldn’t go away in the 4th they had the bases loaded on 2 walks and error, but with 1 out Cornell would get a fly ball to LF and Tom O’brien would come up throwing and get the runner at the plate for the very conventional every day 7-2 DP. The Canes would add 2 more in the 5th when LeMorta would lead the inning off with a solo shot to right and then Cornell would reach on an error and score on Yagers second single of the game. Cornell would get the Mets in order 1,2,3 in the 6th and 7th for the win. Final score Canes 7 Mets 1.

WP: Cornell (7 IP, 1 ER, 3 K’s, 3 BB)

LP: Manilinko (6IP, 7ER, 1K, 2 BB, 1HBP)

POG: Cornell (7IP, 1ER, 3K’s, 3 BB)

Game 2:

The second game would be much more exciting especially when metal bats are in play at Bob Moore Stadium. The Canes would send Jimmy Amend to the hill. The Mets would again score first when Boyton would single and young would again hit a 1st inning sac fly to take the 1-0 lead. The Canes wouldn’t wait to score when Hoffman would double and Novak would single. Then LeMorta would hit a 3 run homerun to LF to give the Canes a 3-1 lead. The Canes would score again in the second when Morrison would double and advance to third on an error. Steve Huneau would single him in 2 batters later. The Mets would tie the game at 4 in the 3rd when Miller would get HBP and Neuman would walk. Then Young and Jette would hit back to back HR to tie the game. The Canes would score again in the 4th when Jeff Solomon would walk, Hoffman would single and Roberts would double the both of them in. The Mets HR brigade continued when Miller would lead the inning off with a solo shot to take the 5-4 lead. The Mets would again go deep twice in the 6th when Greg Jette would hit his 2nd Hr of the game and new met Andrew Rose would follow him up with a solo shot. Canes manager would make the move to Tom Morrison and Morrison would get the job done getting 2 of the next 3 batters. Down 3 in the 6th the canes would start a rally. Solomon, Yager, and Panza would hit 3 straight singles to load the bases for Brian Hoffman. Hoffman would hit a bomb to LF for a grand slam and the lead. The canes would get 1 more run when Novak would single and LeMorta would double him in. Morrison would close the game for the W in the 7th.
