Saturday would be the first battle between the Mets and the Canes of the 2009 season. The Canes would send Jimmy Amend to the hill to take on the Mets Kevin Manilenko. Manilenko would get through the first only giving way to a Brian Hoffman single. Amend would take the ball in the bottom of the inning and look rough from his first pitch. Boyntor would single on the first pitch of the game then with 2 outs Matt Young would drop a spot over the 365 sign in right center giving the Mets a 2-0 lead. The Canes would get one back in the 2nd when Eric Solomon would single with one out and score on a Tom Morrison single with 2 outs making the score 2-1. The Mets would strike again in the 2nd when Agrisano and Brian Jette would have back to back walk to lead off the inning and Agrisano would score on a Zolud single to take the 3-1 lead. The Canes bats would wake up in the 3rd. Jeff Solomon would reach on an inf. Error then with one out the canes would 4 straight singles from their top 4 hitters, and RJ Laurin would then come up 3 batters later with the bases loaded and go shopping in the GAP for a pair of jeans and a bases clearing triple and make the score, 9-3. The Mets wouldn’t go away in the bottom of the thirs Amend would get 1 out then give up a single and a walk and that would be it for Amend. Canes manager LeMorta would go to Tom Morrison to try and slow the mets hot bats. Morrison would come in an plunk the first batter he faced the give up a double to Agrisano clearing the bases. Jeff Young and Zolud would then hit back to back singles but they would be stranded on bases. After 3 the score was 9-7 and both teams new they were in for a long game. The Canes would put 2 more on the board in the 4th when B. Hoff would walk and the Canes 3 hitter would hit a ball over 400 feet down the left field line. Morrison would settle in after a shaky first inning and roll through the next two innings slowing the Mets bats down. The Canes wouldn’t score again until the 6th when Nick Panza would hit his second single of the day and score on back to back singles from the Canes 2 n 3 hitters. The Mets would get that run right back in the 6th when Boyntor would reach first on a throwing errors and Miller would double down the line putting runners at second n third.. The Canes would intentionally walk Matt Young and Mike Neuman would get an INF. Single score Boyntor to make the score 12-8. The Canes would come to the plate in the 7th and look to put some more runs on the board. Eric Solomon would start the hitting bergade with one out double followed by back to back walks and brother Jeff would drive in older brother E$. the Canes would get the bases clearing hit from their 3 hitter when he would lace a ball off the 390 sign, to give the Canes a commanding 19-8 lead. The Canes needed 3 outs for the W and Morrison would take the ball for the close out W. He would walk Agrisano and then hit Brian Jetter. Morrison would settle in for back to back K’s and with 2 outs and the bases load he’d get a fly ball to CF to get the W.

The Canes and Cyclones would do battle for the second time this season, with the Canes leading the series 1-0. The Canes would roll their hot bats from Saturday into Sunday when Nick Panza would lead off the game with a single, and Novack and Roberts would have back to back walk to load the bases for Mark LeMorta. LeMorta would take the first pitch he saw deep over the right field fence for a grand slam and his first HR of the season. The Canes sent ace Nate Novak to the hill. Cushing would lead off the bottom of the inning with a single and advance to third on 2 WP and score on a Joe Curcio single making the score 4-1. Curcio would keep the Canes off balanced with his Knucle ball getting through the next 2 innings with no runs and no hits given up. Novack would match Curcio and roll through the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th giving way to no hits and no runs as well. The Canes would turn it on in the 4th when E. Sol and RJ Laurin would have back to back singles, Cornell would walk and J. sol would reach on an error. Tom O’brien would come to the plate and single in 2 Canes hitters on his first hit of the season. Panza and Novak would follow up with 2 singles to load the bases. BJ Roberts would then double down the right field line scoring 2. Mark LeMorta would follow Roberts with another double scoring 2 more and he would later score on an Eric Solomon Sac Fly making the score 13-1. Novak would look to get the quick 5 inning complete game W. Kelly Martin, and Mike Ciarmello would lead off the bottom of the 5th with back to back walks. Novack would then get a 4-6-3 DP. With 2 out Miller would drive in Martin to make the score 13-2 but, Novack would settle in and get another ground ball to second to finish the game.
