Canes Sweep the Weekend 3-0

Albany, NY: SUNY Albany

The Capital City Canes would take on the South Troy Cudas Saturday morning at SUNY Albany. The Cudas and Canes have had classic battles in the past and this game didn’t disappoint. The Canes sent rookie Nate Novack to the bump to battle South Troy Cudas veteran Jeff “Skip” Streeter. Novack would roll all game not making way to a hit until the 4th inning when Sportsman would single up the middle but Novak would get a 6-4-3 DP to retire the side. Streeter would keep the Canes off balanced all day. The Canes got to Skip in the 2nd when Hoffman would single and new cane RJ Laurin would stay hot with a double scoring Hoff. Laurin would score on a Eric Joyce single to take the 2-0 lead. The canes would make noise again in the 4th when E$ Solomon would single and Laurin would reach for the second AB in a row getting PLUNKED. Skip would bare down and get the next 2 Canes to keep the score 2-0. Novack would roll until the 7th with a 2-0, Maldonado would single and Chasena would reach on a FC. Salvi and Dodge would hit back to back singles, Dodge’s single driving in a run. Haselback would come up with 2 outs and single to LF driving in Salvi to tie the game. Steve Shoemaker would have the big hit doubling to RF scoring 2 and taking a 4-2 lead. The Canes would need a rally in the bottom of the 7th, with RJ Laurin leading off, he would single for his second hit of the day and reaching base on all 3 plate appearances. Joyce would then single up the middle and Panza would reach on an error to load the bases for Mark LeMorta. LeMorta would single driving in Laurin and Joyce to tie the game and with 2 outs men on first and third Nate Novack would come through in the clutch and single in Panza for the W.

WP: Novack 7IP, 6 Hits, 4 ER, 1 BB & 7 K’s.

LP: Streeter 7 IP, 6 Hits, 2 ER, 3 BB & 7K’s

Scotia, NY: Bob Moore Stadium

The Sunday night DH would be between the Capital City Canes and the Scotia Tartan Army. The Canes send Jimmy Amend to the bump to battle the Army’s skipper Richard Hall. Amend was looking to deal coming off a great outing in Atlantic City pitching for the Colonie Knights going 7 innings and picking up the W. Amend would roll all game throwing the CG win Scattering 3 hits with 3 K’s. The Canes would strike first when Josh Kean would rip a single and steal second and score on a throwing error. The Canes would strike again in the third when Kean would again rip single and steal second and score on a Brian Hoffman single. The Canes would then break out in the 4th when Eric Solomon would lead off with a single, then Jason Cornell would take the first pitch he saw deep of the LF fence. O’brien would then reach on another throwing error as would Panza and Josh Kean would go deep into the left center trees for the second HR of the inning. Nate Novak would follow Kean with a single and steal second and score on another Brian Hoffman Single. The Canes would add 3 more in the 5th when Solomon would single and Laurin would double setting the table for Jason Cornell. Cornell would again take the first pict he saw DEEP over the LF fence for this SECOND Homerun of the game, to take the 11-0 lead. Amend would finish what he started and finish the game 11-0.

WP: Amend 5 IP, 3 Hits, 0 ER, 1 BB

LP: Hall 4 IP, 8 Hits, 7 ER, 2 BB

POG: Jason Cornell 2 for 2 ( 2 HR’s 5 RBI, 1 BB)

Game 2: The Canes would send Tom Morrison to battle the Morrison of the Tartan Army. The Army would strike first when Morrsion would hit Risley, then with 2 outs the Army would reach on back to back errors, Richard Hall would then single and Morrsion would hit the next batter and then get a 5-3 PO to retire the side. The Canes would match the Amry in the bottom of the inning when Panza would lead off with a single and steal second then score on a Novak Sac Fly. Hoffman would then single, Roberts would walk and Solomon would double scoring Hoffman followed by a Joyce single with 2 RBI taking the 4-3 lead. The Canes and Army would be retired in order in the second. The Tartan Army would strike again in the 3rd scoring 3 more runs on sloppy Canes defense and 3 walks. With 2 outs and back to back walks Canes manager would go to Chris Yager to stop the bleeding. Yager would do so getting a line out the make the score 6-3. The Canes would get back on the board in the 4th when Jeff Solomon would reach on a FC and Nick Panza would hit a BOMB to left for his first HR of his short MABL career to tie the game at 6. Yager would roll until the 6th when Risley would walk abd Blond would single. Risley would score after the Canes threw the ball around and the runners moved into scoring position on a Meyers SAC FLY. In the 5th the Canes would put some more runs on the board when Hoffman would lead off with a single and score on a Joyce single. Yager would help his own cause with a single to drive in Joyce. That would be it for the Army’s Morrison and 3 consecutive walks after that would drive in 2 more runs making the score 11-6. The Canes would put some more insurance runs up in the 6th when Novak would single and Hoffman and Roberts would have back to back walks setting the table for E$ Solomon who would rip his second double of the game. Solomon would score later to give the Canes the 14-7 lead. Yager would sit the Army down in order in the 7th for the Canes W and weekend Sweep.

WP: Yager: (4 1/3 Inn, 2 hits, 1 BB, 8 K’s)

LP: Morrison ( 4 2/3 Inn, 11 Hits, 3 BB)

POG: Nick Panza 3 for 3 ( 2 Singles, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1BB)
