Albany, NY: SUNY

The Scotia Tartan Army made their season debut Saturday May 30th against town rival the Scotia Cyclones. Both team made up of primarily Scotia residents look to battle for the Scotia Town cup for many season to come. The Cyclones defeated the Tartan Army in both games taking the season series lead 2-0 and the Scotia Town Cup.

Game 1: Tartan Army 3 Cyclones 6

Game 2: Cyclones 7 Tartan Army 3

The third game of the day at SUNY was a game between the Capital City Canes and the X-tribe. The Canes sent new comer Nate Novack to battle St. Rose stand out Jeremiah St. Louis. This would be Novack first game back on the SUNY Albany Diamond and he looked to impress. The Canes would jump to an early lead when RJ Laurin would lead the game off with a Single, then LeMorta would walk and Novack would help his own cause with an RBI single. Brian Hoffman and BJ Roberts would follow Novack with 3 straight RBI singles taking a early 3-0 lead. Novack would take the ball and strike out the first 4 hitters in the first, yes the first FOUR. The Canes would pour it on in the second when Jeff Solomon would draw a lead off walk the Laurin and LeMorta would hit back to back singles LeMorta’s driving in 2. Hoffman and Roberts would both reach on back to back throwing errors by the shortstop and both were driven in on a Eric Solomon double. Novack would roll in the second and third striking out 4 out of the next 7 hitters. The Canes would add 2 more runs again in the third when RJ Laurin would drop a 2 run bomb over the left field fence. The Tribe would get on the board when new X-tribe member Nicolla would walk and Joe Slater would get the first Tribe hit of the day. Nicolla would score on a bases load walk to ex-SUNY football stand out Gabe Galluci, making the score 10-1. the Canes would look to score in the 5th and do so when Tom Morrison would double to lead off the inning and Tom O’brien would follow it up with a walk. Both would score on a Steve Huneau single to take a 12-1 lead. The Tribe would try to extend the game when 2008 ROY Cullen Vumbaco would walk and Ferro would follow up with a single to RF moving Vumbaco to third. Vumback would score on a fielders choice but Novack would bare down and get a big K and line out to short to end the game.

Final: Canes 12 X-tribe 2

Lansingburgh, NY: Knickerbocker Field

The fourth game of the day was a pitchers duel between the Colonie Knights and the Albany Black sox. The Knights sent Ace Adam Anderson to battle Gary Auclaire of the Sox. Both pitcher would deal but the Sox would pre-vail 2-1.

Albany, NY; SUNY Albany

Game 1:

The Tartan Army would play their 3rd game of the season against the dangerous South Troy Cudas. The Cudas would edge out the Army 7 to 4. the Tartan Army showed great strength when the Cudas loaded the bases in 3 innings keeping the Cudas from scoring in any of the innings.

Final Score: Tartan Army 4 Cudas 7

Game 2:

The Capital Mets got their first win in their second game of the season. The Mets won 11-1 in 5 innings over the Tartan Army. The Mets got out to a quick start in the 1st inning with 2 men on Matt Young hit a 3-run HR over the right field fence at SUNY Albany. Chris Petrone would start pitching for the Mets and have his second good outing of the year. Juice would then close the Tartan Army out.

Final Score: Mets 11 Tartan Army 1

Game 3:

The third game of the day would be a battle between the X-tribe and the Colonie Knights. The Knights would send new come Luis Vegerano to battle St. Rose Ace Nick Demidio. The X-tribe looked to bounce back after a loss the Canes the day before against the Knights new big lefty Vegerano and they would do so. The Tribe would pull out the W 6-3. Demidio would roll scattering 5 hits and only giving up 2 earned runs, striking out 9. Rader and Adriano would lead the way for the tribe both with 2 singles each and the Tribe would all come through with runners in scoring position with 2008 ROY Vumbaco leading the way with 2 RBI.

Final Score: Knights 3 X-tribe 6.

Scotia, NY; Bob Moore Stadium

The Sunday night double header would be between the Albany Black Sox and the Capital City Canes.

Game 1:

The Black Sox would send 2006 Cy Young winner Chris Howard to battle the Canes Tyler Travis. The Canes would start the scoring when Nick Panza would lead the game off getting hit by a pitch scoring on a Nate Novack double. Travis would roll through the first 4 innings only giving way to 1 single by Justin Meagher in the second. The Canes would get to Howard again in the third when Panza would lead off with a walk and LeMorta would get HBP. Panza would score on a fielders choice and LeMorta would score on a double steal on a close play at the plate. The 3rd would be it for Howard and he would be replaced by Vinny Fargione. Fargione would get into trouble in the 5th when Kean and Novack would draw back to back walks. Roberts would drive in Kean on his second hit of the day followed by an Eric Solomon triple driving in Roberts and Novack. Solomon would score on a PB with new Cane Eric Joyce at the plate. The Canes would take a 7-0 lead and that would be it for Fargione. The Sox would get on the board in the 5th when Jarczynski would lead off with a single and score on a 6-3 fielders choice. The Canes would get an insurance run in the 7th when the Solomon brothers would draw back to back walks and Eric would score on a bases loaded Nick Panza walk. The Sox would make it interesting in the bottom of the 7th when Meagher would walk, Gio Scialdone would single and Fargion would drive them both in with a double to RF. Travis would bare down and get a 1-6-3 DP to end the game.

Game 2:

With temperatures falling into the high 30’s the Sox and Canes would do battle again. The Sox sent free agent lefty Joe Barone to the hill to take on Canes Capitan and veteran Jason Cornell. The Canes would again strike first in the second when Roberts would rip a single between SS and 3rd. RJ Laurin wold draw a walk and both would score on an Eric Solomon single taking 2-0 lead. The Sox would strike back in the 3rd when Canzeri would get HBP, and JP Behrle would draw a walk, then Tom Prainser would single to 3B. the Sox would get 3 in the inning taking the 3-2 lead. The Sox would strike again in the 4th when Scialdone would single and Canzeri would reach on an error. Both would score to take the 5-2 lead. The canes would chip away in the 5th when Jeff Solomon and Nick Panza would have back to back walks. Kean and Novack would drive in Solomon and LeMorta making the score 5-4. The Sox would call Liberty Mutual for some insurance in the 7th when Phil Weinman would single and knock Cornell from the game. The Canes would go to Tom Morrison. Morrison would get a sac bunt, intentionally walk Meaghar, K the next hitter and then walk Preston. That would be it for Morrison. Kean would come in to try and stop the bleeding but Canzeri would single off the LF walk driving in 3 to take the 8-4 lead. The Sox would have new comer Gio Scialdone on the hill. Scialdon would load the bases for Kean who would drive in Joyce on a fielders choice. With runners on 2nd and 3rd Scialdone would bare down and get a big K for the W.

Final Score: Canes 5 Sox 8  

With another great weekend in the books for the CDMABL the season looks to be a battle for all 6 playoff positions.
