Way out in Amsterdam, a much anticipated matchup between the Capital City Canes and the Colonie Knights went down on a cool Tuesday night. The Canes sent Tyler Travis to the mound to match up against 2009 NCAA Tournement participant, Dave Goerold. The game Started as a pitching duel as Travis K'd the first three batters of the game, and Dave faced only 4 batters with one batter reaching base on a fielding error. In the second inning Fred Harris got the Knights started with a leadoff triple to center field. Travis came right back by striking out the next batter. Next up was Chris "Squiz" Hardisty who put an RBI ground ball into play, to plate the first run of the game. Travis was then able to get out of the inning facing only two more batters. Dave pitched to only four batters again, putting another zero on the scoreboard. In the top of the third inning Travis would find himself in trouble because of a fielding error. After striking out Leo Primeau, Vic Tollentino would get on base due to that fielding error. This would be followed up by a Jami Burnettor single and an Charles Assini walk. Joe Demarco then found himself in a familiar situation, with men on base. He came through with a two strike RBI SAC fly. Travis would then strike out the final batter of the inning to escape with only a one on the scoreboard. Both pitchers would get through the next couple of innings without too much trouble. The Canes bottom half of the fifth inning was a different story all together. Joyce would lead off the inning with a walk followed by a Jason Cornell single. After O'Brien reached on a fielders choice, Panza would be hit by a pitch to load the bases. This would bring up League Commish, Mark Lemorta. Lemorta would single to left field bringing in the first Canes' run of the night. Josh Kean would then hit an RBI groundout to second base tieing the score at 2 a piece. Brian Hoffman would then work a two out walk to reload the bases. Nate Novak would come up and promptly single to give the Canes the lead. Up next was former Knight BJ Roberts. BJ would rip a double down the line scoreing 2. This would end Dave's night. (4.66IN,5K,4BB,6H,5ER). Coach K would send Keith Sweeney in to stop the bleeding. Sweeney would K the last batter of the inning to get out of it but not before throwing a wild pitch to make the score 6-2. The Knights would answer the challenge in the top of the 6th. Demarco would start the inning by reaching base on an error followed by Harris getting hit by a pitch. Travis would then get Dan Carney to pop out to the infield. With a wild pitch moving both runners into scoring position. Squiz would then hit another RBI groundout to bring the Knights within 3. A two out RBI single by Adam Anderson would bring the deficit to 2. Jimmer Kisselburgh would then work the count to full, before working earning a base on balls. The walk was the last batter Travis (5.33IN,8K,3BB,5H,4ER) would face, and he would make way for Tom Morrison. Primeau would then get a two out single to the left to load the bases again. The next three batters would reach via HBP, BB, and BB. Joe Demarco would then come to the plate again with the bases loaded and deliver a two RBI single to right. Making the score 9-6. The Canes would go to Yager to finish the inning. Sweeney then threw a scoreless 6th, while the Knights came up empty in the top of the 7th. Chris Olsen would come on for the save for the Knights, walking the first batter to make things interesting, and then was able to get the next three batters in order.
