The Capital City Canes opened their season against the Scotia Cyclones. The game was a pitchers battle between new Cane Nate Novack and Cyclones Squillace. After Dan Ciarmello lead the game off with a single Novak sat the Cyclones down in order. Squillace would match Novack after Panza would lead off the season with a walk Squillace would retire the Canes in order. Mike Ciarmello would follow in his brothers foot steps leading off the second with a single but again Novak would sit the next 3 down in order. Squillace would get in a little trouble in the 2nd walking Novak to lead of the inning and Cornell would then draw a 2 out walk after new Cane Eric Joyce would reach on a fielder’s choice. Squillace would bare down with the bases loaded and get back to back K’s to end the inning. Novack and Squillace would roll through the third as well. In the 4th the cyclones would get in the board. Squillace would help his own cause by reaching on an error and then Demers would single with no outs. Novack would walk Mike Ciarmello with 1 out and load the bases and then get another K, but with 2 outs and the bases loaded Cushing would single to right driving in 2 making the score 2-0. The Canes would struggle until the 6th when Panza would lead off with a double down the line of Squillace. That would be all for Squillace and the Cyclone would make the move to their ace Kyle Cetnar. Cetnar would hit LeMorta and then bring up Josh Kean. Kean would then come up clutch with 2 runners on and double off the wall driving in Panza. Brian Hoffman and Nate Novak would then hit back to back sac-flys to give the Canes a 3-2 lead. Novack would then go out and K the first 2 hitters in the top of the 7th, then Cetnar would single but Novack would prevail and get Cyclones Manager to line-out to first base to get the canes their first W of the 2009 season.
