CDNABA SHOCKER: DEFENDING CHAMPS DISBAND

Over the past 15 years or so, one of the most dominant clubs in the TCL/CDNABA has been organization known as the Capitaland Bobcats in their most recent incarnation. Formerly known as Graffiti's, the team won the 1999 Tri-City League Championship and did it again in 2001 as the Sadie's Black Sox. Those titles were under the leadership of Ken Feiden.

In 2003, Joe DeMarco took over the team and led the club into the TCL Championship series. In 2004, DeMarco renamed the team the Capitaland Bobcats, cleaned house, and recruited a championship calibur roster before most importantly, leaving the TCL to join the CDNABA.

The Cats won the 2004 National Division Regular Season Championship. In 2005 the Cats made it to the Divisional Championship series. In 2006, DeMarco led the team to their third league title as a franchise and the first under his leadership and in the CDNABA by defeating the Colonie Knights, 3 games to 2. 2007 would see the Cats win the National Division Championship but fall short to the Knights in the CDNABA Championship Series, 3 games to 1. In 2008, for the third straight year the Knights and Bobcats battled in the title. This time the Cats would rise again and win their second title under DeMarco and second in two years.

DeMarco as a player won the 2007 MVP. Pitchers Chris Howard, Jim Shook, and Trevis Beer have had a tremendous impact on opposing offenses. Other players that experienced great success with the team in the CDNABA years include but are not limited to Renaldo Smith, Matt DiMaina, Josh Kean, Chris Yager, and Chris Hover.

The team disbanded for a number of reasons. A good portion of the core was getting to their upper 20's and early 30's. Many were moving away, starting families, and taking on new jobs. The league will not be replacing the Bobcats spot for the 2009 season as the CDMABL years are approaching fast. The CDMABL will start as a 7-team league lin 2009 like in 2003 when the CDNABA began as a 7-team league.
