Cudas make first moves in the 07/08 CDNABA Off-Season
..........2007-2008 OFFSEASON NEWS..............

After a disappointing season the Cudas are taking some key steps in getting over the 1st round playoff hump and are looking to go all the way in 08.

  • Gary Bethany will return next year as a full time player. Bethany who had some of the best numbers in the 06 season will look to do the same in 08. In 07 the Cudas were missing Bethany's leadership and timely hitting on the field as well as his gold glove.

  • Carlos Maldanado will also be back for the 08 Season. Maldanado was the 06 MVP of the Cudas. He is going through rehad on his knee but assures that he will be 100% before the season starts.

  • The Cudas are also talking with an annual all star, batting title champ, and releif pitcher in the NABA who is looking to make a new name with a new team and will fit in perfect with the team.

  •  Most recent addition was made today at 1:32 p.m. the Cudas signed former Colonie Yankee Bob Krogh. Krogh has been working hard so far in the off season on his arm to be an Ace for the Cudas, he will also add more power to the line up.  Krogh said " It's time to come out of retirement." Krogh is also looking to bring some big names with him.

Canes don new colors

The Canes will be making changes in uniforms for the 2008 summer season. After 3 years of wearing the typical Hurricane Green and Orange, manager Mark LeMorta and asst. manager Jason Cornell have discussed the change since taking over the team and feel now is the time to retire the green and orange. The new 2008 Capital City Canes will be wearing BLUE mesh jersey's with white lettering and white pants with a blue pin-stripe down the side. Hats are still in question but due to popularity of the Old English C that is worn all throughout the CDNABA the Canes will be making the move to something new and original. All players are encouraged to go out and get sponsors for the 2008 season to help cut the cost of the uniforms. The uniforms will be purchased from DC Sports through Andrew Dushensky. The new uniforms aren't the only upgrades that Manager Mark LeMorta and Asst. Manager Jason Cornell have made this season, but that news will be broken closer to the 2008 seasons.

Blacksox Prevail in the AM classic

The Albany Blacksox continue to shock the MABL by pulling out a 11-10 victory over the Capital Mets in a classic early morning battle at Shuttleworth park.  The Blacksox dropped a 20 spot in the hit column to hold on to first place in the MABL standings improving their record to 10-1 overall. This was the Blacksox 8th straight win and was by far one of the most incredible games in MABL history.  The game started at 8:35pm, but would not conclude until almost 1:00AM, when Jhonny Kolach smacked his 4th straight hit off the base of the wall in deep left center scoring Tom Praisner to win the game in the bottom of the 12th.  "The Game" as it will be remembered by the two teams saw 2 Homeruns (Jette, Owens), 34 combined hits, 9 errors, a failed suicide squeeze and a walk off.  The marathon win went to pitcher Dave Preston who entered the game in the 7th and shut down the powerful Capital Mets line up for 6 strong innings. Player of the Game- Jhonny Kolach (4-7, 3 Doubles, GW RBI)
