Clevehill Baseball: Alumni News

ALUMNI NEWS
THE FOLLOWING LETTER WAS RECEIVED BY CLEVEHILL BASEBALL ON JUNE 22, 2005 AND WE WOULD LIKE TO SHARE IT WITH OUR PARENTS, FRIENDS AND PLAYERS. WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM MORE OF OUR ALUMNI AND WILL FIND A PAGE ON THIS WEBSITE FOR FUTURE ARTICLES/EMAILS.

I wanted to share with you some information about an alumnus of the Cleve-Hill Baseball Program who would have played at various levels (including all-star teams) from 1990-94.

His name is Jim McNamara, and he played for much of his time with teams coached by Jeff Kolpack. Jim will be entering his senior year at Gettysburg College in the fall, where he will be in his second year as captain of the men's cross country team there.

His baseball exploits, however, have taken him much further since he and our family moved to Webster (just northeast of Rochester) in August of 1994. His 13-14-year old team won the Webster Athletic Association championship in 1997, and his 15-16-year-old team won the Maplewood (Rochester) Amateur championship in 1999 and 2000. He has played on numerous all-star teams in every summer league he has played in since leaving Cleve-Hill.

His senior year in high school (2002), Jim was named as third-baseman on the All-Monroe County All-Star team and got to compete in the Senior All-Star game played at Frontier Field in Rochester. Earlier that spring, he hit a home run into the right-field bleachers of Doubleday Field in Cooperstown while playing in an exhibition game there. His American Legion team from Webster also made the playoffs for the first time in ten years (and haven't
qualified since). He still bats left, throws right, and goes about 6'4" and 180 lbs. now!

At Gettysburg, he has hit over .300 for his entire career (he batted .310 last spring) and helped Gettysburg to a 20-win season and its first-ever birth in the Centennial League playoffs. He will be graduating next spring with a B-average and a degree in international relations/public policy and hopes to attend law school the following year.

Jim wanted me to pass along his very best wishes (he's interning this summer for Wyeth Pharmaceutical outside of Philadelphia) and his deep gratitude to Coach Jeff and everyone connected with the Cleve-Hill program. You gave him a wonderful start with baseball- a start which has indeed taken him far beyond the long-gone fields behind the high school.

We hope for every success for each and every child who participates in your outstanding program, and we think fondly upon the happy days we were fortunate to have shared with you- Dr. and Mrs. Tim McNamara
