CONGRAT'S to Clearwater/North Pinellas "Big League" Baseball Team WINNING the

2014 Little League Big League World Series!!!

EASLEY – After watching teammate Brad Deppermann toss a one-hitter in the U.S. Championship Game of the Big League World Series Tuesday night, Brian Auerbach felt the pressure to follow suit in the world title game Wednesday night. He did just that. Auerbach allowed just one hit through six innings and finished with a four-hitter as Clearwater, Fla., held off San Juan, Puerto Rico, 2-1 to win its first Big League World Series title in a game televised live by ESPN2.

"This feels great," Auerbach said. "There's nothing like it."

Clearwater, the U.S. Southeast Region champion, finished with a 5-1 record, with the lone defeat coming 7-6 at the hands of the South Carolina District I host team on Saturday night. District I, which lost to Clearwater 6-0 Tuesday night in the U.S. title game, has defeated the eventual world champion twice since 2008 during U.S. pool play. But Saturday's defeat at the hands of the host team was a distant memory Wednesday, as Auerback – a rangy 6-foot-3 right-hander bound for Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. – kept Puerto Rico off balance with a mix of curveballs, sliders and fastballs. While Auerback was working his magic, Clearwater pulled ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the second on Derek Gibree's two-out RBI single, then took a 2-0 lead an inning later when Brenden Overton singled, stole second, advanced to third on Deppermann's single and dashed home when Deppermann attempted a steal of second.

1 on an RBI single by Carlos Texidor. But Auerbach made Frederick Pena his ninth strikeout victim to end the game. "Brian got a little tired at the end, but he fought through it," Clearwater manager Matt Morrow said. "We were just thinking, 'Get a ground ball and we'll be OK.' You want to see somebody who's pitching like that finish the job. That was his last batter no matter what." It was indeed. Auerbach fanned Pena on his 105th pitch, which is the maximum allowed by Little League. "I knew we were going to pull it off somehow, thank goodness we did," Auerbach said. "Our pitching is incredible and our hitting picks up the pitching. You can't ask for anything more. We've got a talented group and we work well together."

Clearwater's victory marked the fifth consecutive year that either Puerto Rico or the Southeast Region champion had claimed the world title. Puerto Rico, which has won four titles overall, won the title in 2010 and 2012 while South Carolina District 7 from Greenville County won Southeast Region titles and world titles in 2011 and 2013. Puerto Rico has finished runner-up in the Big League World Series five times.

Parents: no dogs are allowed inside the fenced areas.

Parents: our volunteers on the field ARE GREATLY AIDED when all parents help ensure (by each being vocal and not sitting back and expecting someone else to take care of it) that children that are not on the ball fields supervised:

A)  are not playing in our landscaped planter areas,

B) are not playing other sports or riding skateboards, bikes, or other things that do not belong within our dedicated baseball and softball facility,

C) are not throwing trash, gum, or other items anywhere on, or around, our complex.

Our facility is an incredible asset to our Community, our City, and our County.

Help us preserve it for our children's children, for all who choose to live and visit us here in our area, and for all future residents that will choose to move into our Beautiful and Central Clearwater area.

Thank you in advance for your Courage, Character, and Loyalty...as it is mainly us, the parents, that can truly pass these simple Little League Defining Principles onto our own children.

The City of Clearwater and the Clearwater Little League are working together with Pinellas County and the Town of Belleair on a partnership agreement that will allow their Unincorporated Pinellas County residents to play baseball and softball at the Sid Lickton Complex for just $7.49 a season.

The details of this agreement have not been worked out yet, but we are excited to announce the City of Clearwater is allowing us to pass along this savings to you and your family for the 2014 Spring Season only.

Any family living in Unincorporated Pinellas County or the Town of Bellaire will pay the Clearwater Little League an additional $7.49 on top of the registration fee, which will eventually be passed on to the City of Clearwater.

City of Clearwater residents are always encouraged to purchase a recreation card ($7.49), so they can benefit all year long or pay $7.49 to the league.

I see great things in baseball. It's our game - the American game.
Walt Whitman

Do what you love to do and give it your very best. Whether it's business or baseball, or the theater, or any field. If you don't love what you're doing and you can't give it your best, get out of it. Life is too short. You'll be an old man before you know it.
Al Lopez

I think about baseball when I wake up in the morning. I think about it all day and I dream about it at night. The only time I don't think about it is when I'm playing it.
