Coaches
Shannon M. Shannon
Shannon is the owner/co-director of Clash Volleyball Club. Coach Shannon has long history of coaching volleyball. Among other teams, she coached for Windy City Volleyball Club 14's and Smash Volleyball Club 14's and 18's, both of Chicago, leading both teams to top 5 national finishes. Shannon also led Marian Catholic High School (Chicago Heights) to the Regional Championship.
In Virginia, Shannon and Coach Kate Southcott began Clash Volleyball Club. She has been at the helm of Clash 12's and 13's for two Chesapeake Region Championships, two Runners-up, and two National Championship Tournament appearances.
As a player, Shannon attended Hillsdale College on a volleyball scholarship and captained the team for three seasons. The Hillsdale Chargers qualified for the NAIA National Championships 3 times during Shannon's tenure there, placing 5th in 1982. She was awared All-District honors in collegiate volleyball and was named to the Junior Olympic All-American team in 1976.
Coach Shannon holds a B.A. in English and Health/P.E., as well as a Master's Degree in Literature. Shannon currently teaches grammar at Seton High School.
Kate Southcott
Coach Southcott (co-director) is head volleyball coach at Osbourn Park High School. During the 2005 season, the Yellow Jackets were the Cedar Run District Champions. They also won the Regional Championship, advancing to the State Tournament quarterfinals. Coach Southcott continues to expect more success in the upcoming State Tournament. Because of her success at OPHS, Southcott has been named Coach of the Year twice. Previously, Southcott spent 8 seasons as Osbourn Park's JV coach, leading that team to 6 undefeated seasons.
Kate earned a Bachelors of Science with a Physical Education Teaching Certificate (K-12) at Ithaca College. While at Ithaca, Kate was part of the 1987 Division III National Championship team.
Coach Southcott is entering her 11th season as a coach for Clash Volleyball Club. Under her leadership, Clash teams have won the following: 17's Regional Championship and National Appearance, 14's Regional Championship, 15's and 14's Regional Runners-up, 16's Silver Regional Championship, and 17th place finish in the Asics Nationals, 14's division 2001. Coach Southcott holds a Master's Degree in Education from George Mason University. Presently, Kate teaches Health and PE at Osbourn Park High School.
Jim Sample
Coach Sample has coached wrestling, soccer, basketball, and volleyball throughout his career. As an athlete, he was a two-time member of Liberty University's NCAA National Champion Wrestling Team. His volleyball coaching career started at Emmanual Christian School in 1990, and he has led the Flames to several league championships and 3 State Tournament appearances. He also coached for the Prince William JOVA Volleyball Club from 1995 - 1999. With JOVA, Sample led his 14's team to the Club Regional Championship.
Coach Sample joined Clash VBC in 1999, coaching 14's & 16's. His 2001 14's team was Club Regional Runners-Up, and he assisted with the 2003 Club Regional Champion team.
He has a B.S. in Elementary Education from Liberty University and an MA Ed in Administration and Supervision from George Mason University. Jim is a teacher at Emmanuel Christian High School.
