Gold Squad Confirmed by NYFL
The 2008 open registration proved that football is king in the Clarkston area. Both the Freshman and Junior Varsity Football teams reached capacity and created a large waiting list.
Because of the large amount of interest in the Chiefs, the Clarkston Chiefs petitioned the NYFL to add a new Gold Squad at the Freshman and Junior Varsity Level to go along with the current Blue and White squad. These teams would have approximately 30 players or more on each team.
At the May NYFL board meeting, the issue was tabled as to a Gold Squad for the Chiefs. Because Oakland Christian has decided to wait a year to join the NYFL, the Chiefs have been approved to bring on a Gold Freshman and Junior Varsity squad. Waiting list people will be contacted as soon as possible.
Registration for those on the waiting list and others interested in joining open spots on the Clarkston Chiefs will be May 29th from 7:30 to 9PM @ the Carriage House.

* Non Division Game
Sunday, August 17
Week 1 - Road Warriors Go 6-1
The Freshman Gold kicked off the season in fine fashion as they won the first historical Freshman Gold victory. From the first play from scrimmage, running back Perry scampered 60 yards for a TD. The Freshman never looked back as they controlled the game for a 36-12 victory over the Waterford Corsairs Blue. The next game will be the home opener against the Pontiac Panthers who beat Lapeer 33-0. Kickoff will be 3PM (9/6/08) at Clarkston High School. Congratulations to Dan Russell for his first victory as a Chiefs Head Coach.
The young JV Gold team ran into an experienced and well coached Waterford Corsair Blue team. Continuously, the young Chiefs pushed toward the endzone, only to be stopped short. This game ended with a 0-18 loss, but the toughness of the JV Gold will be something to look at in the future. The job doesn't get any easier as the Pontiac Panthers will be coming off a 20-6 victory over the tough Lapeer team. Kickoff will be 5PM (9/6/08) at Clarkston High School.
The Freshman Blue sure looked ready for the season as they dominated in all aspects Saturday evening. All three units scored touchdowns as they strolled to a 32-0 victory over the Brandon Jr. Blackhawks. The Birmingham Blue will be getting another taste of Clarkston football as they will be the next opponent for the Blue squad. Freshman will follow the JV on September 6 as kickoff will be at 6PM.
The JV Blue had to come from behind two times to finally beat the JV Blackhawks 15-12 in one of the great games to watch. The tough Blackhawk defense had two touchdowns to keep the JV Chiefs on their toes. September 6th, the JV Blue will be taking on the Birmingham Blue who lost to our hometown JV Chiefs White 22-0. Kickoff is scheduled for 4PM.
On a beautiful August morning the Freshman White began where they left off last season playing outstanding defense. The Birmingham Patriots Blue will have to go back to the drawing board after a 26-0 defeat to the Freshman Chiefs. Next week is another trip to Waterford as the Freshman White will take on the Waterford Blue. Kickoff is 9/6/08 at Noon.
The Junior Varsity White played copycats as they also demonstrated wonderful defensive pressure on the Birmingham Blue JV offense for a 22-0 victory. But, they better watch out as they have to take on the new and improved Waterford Corsair JV Blue who defeated the JV Gold Chiefs. Kickoff is scheduled for 9/6/08 at 2PM. Congratulation to Paul Chewins for his first Chiefs Head Coach win.
The Varsity ended the football weekend in fine style as they dominated the offensive side of the football for a 30-14 win that everyone on the team contributed to offensively and defensively. In two weeks it will not get any easier as the traditionally tough Pontiac Panthers will stroll into town for a 7PM kickoff. Saturday, the Pontiac Panthers defeated the Lapeer Steelers 21-0.
By NYFL rules, there are no games over Labor Day weekend. Therefore, enjoy the week and be safe. Games begin again September 6th.

Next week the White will play Gold (1-1) to kick off Family Day at 10am at CHS.
The JV White (2-0) must have practiced real hard this week after the saw Waterford (1-1) control our Gold team last week. The JV Blue (1-1) new something was strange when they played before the Freshman at Seaholm High School. And strange it was as they finished regulation with a scoreless tie against the Birmingham Patriots Blue (1-1). The JV Blue was not able to stop the Patriots in overtime as they took a hard defeat 0-6. Next week the JV Blue will take on the Waterford Corsairs Green (0-2) and try to get back on track. Kickoff is at 4PM at CHS.
The JV Gold (0-2) proved that they can play some hard nosed footbal against the Panthers (2-0) from Pontiac. The game was not decided until the final minutes of the 4th quarter when the Panthers put the game away for a 38-21 victory. Next week the JV Gold will take on the JV White.
The Freshman Blue (2-0) keeps on rolling along as they came up with their second victory in as many games against the Birmingham Patriots Blue (0-2) 30-0. Next week, the Freshman Blue will take on the Waterford Corsairs Green (0-2). Last week the Corsairs took a tough loss to the Auburn Hills Makos Blue. Kickoff is scheduled for 2PM.
Everyone expected the Varsity (1-1) to play and exciting game with the Pontiac Panthers (2-0). Exciting it was as each team took turn scoring with the Panthers scoring last for a 26-24 victory. Next week the Varsity will take on the NYFL Super Bowl III Champions Waterford Corsairs. Last week the Corsair (2-0) defeated the Auburn Hills Makos. Kickoff is scheduled for 6PM.
Sunday, September 7
Week 3 - Playing in the Rain
Good thing the all day rain didn't wash out the spirits of our fans as they filled the stands in some of the worse rain our kids have ever played under. Our Family Day Gift seat cushion kept there bottoms dry as all seven teams played at Clarkston High School.
The first ever Freshman Gold/White game started the day off in a non divisional matchup. It was the defending National Division Champions Freshman White controlling the game for a 21-0 victory.
Next week the Freshman White (3-0) will get back into divsional play at Clarkston Jr. High against our M-15 rivals the Brandon Jr. Blackhawks (1-2) who earned a victory over the Lake Orion Dragons White. Kick off is at 4PM.
The Freshman Gold will be seeking a victory over the Freshman Blue in a American Division Match Up. Last week the Freshman Blue defeated the Waterford Corairs Green 33-0 to stay 3-0. Kickoff will be a 5PM at Clarkston High School.
The historic first ever JV Gold/White game was played with a great amount of intensity as the game was not decided until late in the forth quarter. The defending National Divsion Champions JV White came away with a 16-6 victory.
Next week the JV White (3-0) will try to continue its winning ways with a division game against the always tough Brandon Jr. Blackhawks (1-2) who defeated the Lake Orion Dragons White 14-6 on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 6PM at Clarkston Jr. High School.
The JV Gold will be seeking a win in a game that is sure to be a defensive battle against the JV Blue. Last week the Blue defeated the Waterford Corsairs Green 13-6 to get a American Divsion Win. Kickoff is scheduled for 7PM at Clarkston High School.
In the NYFL game of the week the Varsity took on the Waterford Corsairs. The Corsairs let the Chiefs know why they are the NYFL Super Bowl Champions as they defeated our Chiefs 20-8. Week 4 - Let's Play Someone Else
The two weeks of playing Chiefs against Chiefs is finally over. The Blue Squads and Gold Squads played some hard hitting games with the Blue Squads coming out victorious in both cases. The Freshman Blue won 30-0 and the JV Blue edged out the Gold 7-0. Next week the Blue Squads play Pontiac at Clarkston Jr. High (3PM & 5PM). The Gold Squads will take on the Birmingham Patriots Blue at Clarkston High School (Freshman 6PM & JV 4PM).
In games played against teams outside the franchise, the White Squads took on our neighbors from Brandon at Clarkston Jr. High. The Freshman (4-0) opened the day with a 38-14 victory over the Freshman Jr. Blackhawks (1-3). Next week the Freshman will travel to Dryden High School to take on the Lapeer Steeler (1-3). Saturday the Steelers lost to the Waterford Corsairs Blue 6-13. Kickoff is at Noon.
The JV White (4-0) keeps on moving along as they finished the night with a 30-0 victory over the JV Jr. Blackhawks (1-3). Next week will be an outstanding contest as the White will travel to Dryden High School to take on the (3-1) Lapeer Steelers. This game will decide who has control of the National JV Division. Last week, the Lapeer Steelers defeated the Waterford Corsairs Blue 13-6. Kickoff is scheduled for 2PM.
It took at day to finish the week of competition as the Varsity traveled to Groves High School to take on the Birmingham White. The Birmingham White (1-3) stayed close early with some great athletic ability. But, it was the Chiefs (2-2) line that was clearing the path on the ground for a 51-18 victory. Next week, the Chiefs will try to revenge a last minute loss to Pontiac with a 7PM game at Clarkston Jr. High. Kickoff is at 7PM.

Week 5 - Nearly Perfect Day (Freshman Blue Clinches Playoff Birth)
The day started with all kinds of emotions as many key games were being played. The first set of games began on the road as the White Squads took off for Dryden High School to take on the Lapeer Steelers.
The Freshman White seems to be moving right along as they are looking strong with game plans and effort. They were able to control the game for a 25-6 victory over the Lapeer Freshman. Next week, the Freshman White will host the Auburn Hills Silver at Clarkston High School. Kickoff is at 5PM.
The JV White knew they would have a battle in hand as the Lapeer Steelers had the division lead by a half game. And a battle it was, as the JV White sweated out a 30-28 victory and now leads the Division and Steelers by a half game. Next week, the JV White will host the Auburn Hills Silver in the nights finale. Kickoff is scheduled for 7PM at Clarkston High School.
The Freshman Blue were undefeated going into Saturdays game and so were the Pontiac Panthers as they were playing for first place in the American Division. The Freshman Blue played in playoff form as they held back the Pontiac Panthers for 19-6 victory and sole possession of 1st place. Next week, the Freshman are on the road to on cross town rivals Lake Orion White Dragons in a non division game. Kickoff is at 3pm at Lake Orion High School.
NOTE: The Freshman Blue have qualified for the playoffs. With 1-2 records in the Division, the Clarkston Chiefs Gold or Waterford Corsairs Green will receive a 3rd loss. Freshman Blue can not lose more than 2 in the division.
The Freshman Gold has suffered some real frustration of late after the only victory on opening day. But, the frustration is now gone as they were able to control the Birmingham Patriots Blue for a 25-12 victory. The Freshman go on the road next week to Pierce Middle School to take on the Waterford Corsairs Green. Kickoff is scheduled for 3PM.
The JV Blue have played in some of the hardest hitting games this season and the one against the Pontiac Panthers was no different. But, in the end it was the Pontiac Panthers that was able to put more on the scoreboard with a 28-12 victory. Next week the JV Blue will travel to Lake Orion for a non division contest against the Lake Orion White. Kickoff is scheduled for 5PM at Lake Orion High School.
There is no doubt that the JV Gold has the hardest schedule in the NYFL. This week the Birmingham Patriots Blue came into town trying to steal one on the road. But, the JV Gold decided they needed a victory an upset the Patriots with a 6-0 victory. The schedule does not get any easier as the Gold must take on the Waterford Corsairs Green at Pierce Middle School. Kickoff is scheduled for 5PM.
The Clarkson Chiefs Varsity had never beaten the Pontiac Panthers Varsity in NYFL play. Well, that is old news as the Varsity controled the game from the beginning to end with a 24-12 victory. Next week the Varsity travels to Lake Orion to take on the Dragons in the evenings finale. Kickoff is scheduled for 7PM.
All games next week are on Saturday.

Week 7 - White Squads and Freshman Blue Win Division Titles
Today was a unique day as thoughts of playoffs and championships were in most peoples minds.
The day started with a trip to Dryden High School where the Varsity (5-2) were looking to improve there playoff seeding. The Lapeer Steelers (0-7) were trying to get there first win of the season. The Varsity were not very friendly as they beat the Steelers 40-14. Next week the Varsity hosts the Auburn Hills Makos (2-5) at Clarkston Jr. High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 6PM.
Going back to Clarkston, Freshman National Division Champion was on the line as both the Birmingham Patriots White (5-2) and the Freshman White (7-0) were undefeated in the division. But, it was home field advantage that took charge as the Freshman claimed Division Champions with a 40-6 victory. Next week the Freshman end the season playing the Lake Orion Dragons White. Kickoff is schedule for 3PM at Lake Orion High School.
The Junior Varsity White (7-0) went into Saturday's contest knowing that they would have to win one of the next two games to declare themselves a JV National Division Championship. The Birmingham Patriots White (2-5) were not able to postpone the celebration as the JV declared themselves champions with a 20-8 win. Next week, the JV White travel to Lake Orion to take on the White Dragons. Kickoff is scheduled for 5PM on Saturday.
The Freshman Gold (4-3) have been on a role lately as they have come back with 3 impressive victories. The Lake Orion Dragons Green (0-7) may have humbled the Freshman as they nearly stole one for there first victory. The Freshman Gold qualified for the playoffs with a 20-13 victory. Next week, the Freshman Gold will host the Auburn Hills Makos Blue. Kickoff is scheduled for 2PM at Clarkston Jr. High on Saturday.
The Junior Varsity Gold (1-6) have suffered one tough loss after another this season. Saturday was no different as the Lake Orion Dragons Green (3-4) stole one on the road. The 19-6 loss eliminated the young JV Gold from any post season play. The season ends next week with a game against the Lake Orion Dragons Green. Kickoff is scheduled for 4PM at Clarkston Jr. High School.
The Freshman Blue (7-0) knew they would have to earn a championship when they played the Auburn Hills Makos Blue (5-2). The winner of this match would hold the first seed going into the last week of the season. The Freshman did more than hold it. They grabbed it for the Freshman American Division Title. Next week, the Freshman play the Lake Orion Dragons Green. Kickoff is 10am at Clarkston Jr. High on Saturday.
The Junior Varsity Blue (5-2) have quietly enjoyed a wonderful season. This week they were seeking to improve there chances for post season play. They did just that by controlling the Auburn Hills Makos Blue for a 18-0 victory. Next week, the Junior Varsity will host the Lake Orion Green who are looking for a way to sneak into the playoffs. A JV Blue victory or a Pontiac Panther victory over Waterford Corsairs Green insures a playoff seed. Kickoff is scheduled for Noon at Clarkston Jr. High on Saturday.

Week 8 - Finishing off the Regular Season
The regular season has come to the end on Saturday with some great anticipation and shocking disappointments.
The day began with the Freshman Blue (8-0) wondering if they could finish with a perfect season. The Lake Orion Dragons (0-8) were trying to end the season on a high note. The Freshman Blue did complete the season with a perfect record and the #1 seed in the American Division with a 30-0 win. They will take on the #4 seed Clarkston Chiefs Gold.
The day began with some real high hopes as the JV Blue (5-3) knew all they had to do was defeat the Lake Orion Dragons Green (4-4) or have Pontiac defeat the Wateford Green to make the playoffs. Neither happened as the JV Blue were upset by the Lake Orion Green 10-15.
The Freshman Gold (4-4) were looking to defeat the Auburn Hills Makos Blue (6-2) so that they could get another chance at the Pontiac Panthers. Well, they may have to wait a week as the Makos held the Freshman back 8-18. The #4 Gold will take on the #1 Clarkston Chiefs Blue in Round 1.
In one of the most entertain games of the year, the JV Gold (1-7) took on the Auburn Hills Makos Silver (1-7) who were seeking to get on the winning side this year. It took three overtimes, but the Makos finally did it with a 6-12 3-Overtime affair.
The National Division Freshman White (8-0) were seeking a perfect season. The Lake Orion Dragons White (3-5) were playing to play the Freshman White again in the first round of the playoffs. The Freshman White were victorious with a 31-13 win, but the White Dragons fate will be decided by a 3 way coin flip with Brandon and Birmingham Blue Monday night as all teams are tied.
The National Division Champions JV White (8-0) did not want to finish the season with such a tough game against the Lake Orion Dragons White (0-8), but it was only a one touchdown difference at the start of the 4th quarter. The JV White finally put it together and won 20-0. Next week, the #1 Seed JV White will take on the #4 Waterford Corsairs Blue.
The Varsity (6-2) has been on a role lately winning easily. The talented Auburn Hills Makos (2-6) have been frustrated by a tough season. Well, the Varsity gave the Auburn Hills Makos another tough loss with a 49-28 victory. Monday night, the Varsity will have to flip a coin with the Pontiac Panthers to decide the #2 position in the Varsity divsion. The #2 seed will play the #7 Birmingham Patriots Blue and the #3 seed will play the #6 Auburn Hills Makos.

Get Ready for Round 2
The Clarkston Chiefs entered the playoffs with a NYFL franchise leading 5 teams. Additionally, they knew that they would not come out of the weekend with more than 4 teams with the American Division Freshman Gold vs Freshman White playing each other in the Semi Finals.
Saturday began with three playoff games at Clarkston Jr. High with the Chiefs hosting the Freshman and Junior Varsity National Division and a Varsity Quarter Finals Contest.
The Freshman started the day with the #1 Seed Clarkston Chiefs White playing the #4 Lake Orion Dragons White. The Clarkston Chiefs defeated the the Dragons in week 8 and the results were the same as the Chiefs finished the game with a 24-8 victory. Next week, the Freshman White will travel to Dryden High School and take on the #2 Seed Birmingham White who defeated the #3 Wateford Corsairs Blue. Kickoff is scheduled for Noon at Dryden High School.
The Junior Varsity followed up the Freshman game with the #1 Clarkston Chiefs White playing the #4 Waterford Corsairs Blue. The Clarkston Chiefs defeated the Corsairs earlier in the year 26-0. The JV White defense held again as the Chiefs defeated the Corsairs 24-0. Next week, the Freshman White will travel to Dryden High School and take on the #2 seed Lapeer Steelers who defeated the #3 Auburn Hills Makos Silver 42-12. Kickoff is scheduled for 2PM at Dryden High School.
The Varsity finished up the evening with the #2 Clarkston Chiefs playing the #7 Birmingham Patriots Blue. The Clarkston Chiefs defeated the Patriots in week 1. It was more of the same as the Chiefs controlled the game for a 41-14 victory. Next week, the Varsity will travel to Auburn Hills Civic Center field to take on the winner of the #3 Pontiac/#6 Auburn Hills matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 3PM.
The Sunday matchup was the #1 Freshman Blue vs the #4 Freshman Gold at Seaholm High School. The Freshman Blue let everyone know why experience is important as they defeated the younger Freshman Gold. Next week, the Freshman Blue will travel to Auburn Hills Civic Center field and to take on the #2 Pontiac Panthers who defeated the #3 Auburn Hills Makos Blue 31-8. Kickoff is scheduled for 11am on Saturday.

3 Super Teams Going To IV.
The Clarkston Chiefs will be sending 3 teams to Super Bowl IV this year in Brandon. The Chiefs sent 3 teams in 2006 and brought home Super Bowl Championship at the Freshman and Junior Varsity level. We can only hope for a repeat in 2008.
The most upsetting game of the day was the #1 Freshman Blue taking on the #2 Pontiac Panthers. The game was a terrific one to watch as it was a defensive struggle for most the game. The Panthers earned the hard fought game with a long punt return to take the lead and final victory 13-7. Unfortuneatly, running back Garrett Groulx was not able to lead his team as he injured his knee on a kickoff play early in the game. Congratulation to Coach Steve Groulx, his coaches and team for an undefeated regular season and American Division Championship.
The #1 Freshman White earned it invitation to a second straight Super Bowl visit as they defeated the #2 Seed Birmingham White 28-14. The Freshman White will be looking for some revenge as it was the Pontiac Panthers that took NYFL Super Bowl III with a tough 12-6 victory. Freshman Super Bowl IV should be just as exciting. Kickoff is at Brandon High School (not Varsity Field) is scheduled for Noon on Saturday.
The #1 Junior Varsity White also earned its second straight Super Bowl visit as they defeated the very tough #2 Seed Lapeer Steelers 6-0. The Junior Varisty White has been on a mission since the last years OT loss to Lake Orion. This year the JV White will be taking on the American Division Champion Pontiac Panthers. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 PM at Brandon High School.
The #2 Clarkston Chiefs Varsity will return to the NYFL Super Bowl after taking a year off. Two years ago, the Varsity was overmatched by a wonderful Pontiac Panthers team. This years version of the Clarkston Chiefs should be able to make more of a game this year. But, the task will not easy as they will be playing the defending NYFL Super Bowl III Champion Waterford Corsiars. Waterford defeated the Chiefs earlier this year 20-8. Kickoff is scheduled for 5PM at Brandon High School.

Walking through the doors at Brandon High School for the 4th Annual NYFL Mega Cheer there were no cries about trophies, wins or celebrations. The only talk was about doing your best and having fun. Well, that fun turned out to be a number of Clarkston teams taking home metals and the Freshman White sweeping both rounds for the overall Freshman Championship.
Congratulation to all teams that participated and the very loud Clarkston families and friends that cheered on our teams all day.

Last year, the Pontiac Panthers were surprised that the Freshman White were even in the game on there way to the NYFL Super Bowl III Championship. This year, they are wondering how the Freshman White won the game and the NYFL Super Bowl IV Championship. It was the Panthers that clawed at the Chiefs with two touchdowns in the first half. But, it was the Chiefs that never gave up as Ross Bailey scored twice after the 6 minute warning to take the game tied into the halftime break. The game remain scoreless which meant the game had to go into overtime. But, the Panthers could not move forward as they were denied any points in overtime. The Christopher Cartier shot an arrow through the heart of the Panthers as he ran for 10 yards and the NYFL Super Bowl IV Championship.

Last year, the Clarkston Chiefs White fumbled and bumbled through the first half of Super Bowl III and eventually lost to the Lake Orion Dragons in a great overtime game. For a whole year, the Chiefs remembered and were determined to get another chance. The Pontiac Panthers, also had Super Bowls on there mind as they were eliminated early the last two years after winning NYFL Super Bowl I. Early, it was the Chiefs that showed the Panthers that they would have to stop the pass and the run as Zezula passed the ball to Kostich for a 20 yard TD pass and Zezula kicked the conversion for a 8-0 lead. But, the Panthers did not flinch as they came right back with a 75 yard run by #25, but did not make extra point. From that point on, it was all Chiefs as they experinenced a TD run by Zezula, a halfback pass to Kostich and a run by Engler to win going away 28-6. But really, it was the defense that held a tough Pontiac offense in check that lead to Chiefs winning the Junior Varsity NYFL Championship.

The last time the Chiefs were in the Super Bowl, they were demolished by the defending NYFL Super Bowl I Champions Pontiac Panthers. This time they were against another great champion as the Waterford Corsairs won NYFL Super Bowl III. Though there were 22 players on the field, this game seemed to be a battle of wits between Waterford great quarterback #15 and the Chiefs running back #14 Ben Kaminsky and quarterback #27 Taylor Barton. All players enjoyed touchdowns in regulation. But, when regulation ended, the game was tied 12-12. Waterford took the ball first in overtime and #15 proved he was not just a runner as he threw a beautiful fade pass to #89 on the first play to score first. But, the conversion was no good as the Chiefs stopped another pass on the one yard line. Then, the Chiefs took over by trying to pass themselves, but #27 Taylor Barton tucked the ball away for a run to the 5 yard line. Kaminsky then finished the deal with a run off the right side to tie the score. After a Chiefs time out, it was Kaminsky again. But he seemed to be stopped at the one, then the linemen and Kaminsky started chopping those big legs which lead to Ben falling into the endzone to capture the Chiefs 1st Varsity NYFL Super Bowl title.

Chiefs Dominate North American Youth Football Championship
The Clarkston Chiefs decided to venture out this year as they combined the three Freshman football teams and created two new teams for the North American Youth Football Championships in North Carolina. Freshman White Head Football Coach Joel Wells would put together a team of 8 year olds and Freshman Blue Head Football Coach Steve Groulx would put together a team of 9 year olds.
Both coaches did not know what to expect as they have never played in this type of national tournament. But, the nation knows who the Clarkston Chiefs are now as both the 8 Year old and the 9 Year old Chiefs won the North American Youth Championship. Both teams combined gave up only 6 points.
The 8 Year old Chiefs beat the North Carolina Ballantye Gators twice and the New York Niagra Falls Chiefs to win the Championship. The 9 Year olds had to beat the Virginia Spotsylvania Wolverines, Ohio East Cleveland Chiefs and the Virginia Dale City Bengals.
The Chiefs want to thank both Joel Wells and Steve Groulx for coaching our boys over the Thankgiving weekend and the families to allowing the boys an experience that most athletes do not get to have. Additionally, the Clarkston Chiefs would like to thank WorkLife Financial for sponsoring this event and hotel accomadations for the families.
